I don't know how this place is still operating
I would need about 4-5 pages to describe all the deep seeded problems at Ikon, but here is just a few:
-Overall, they are run very poorly, with systemic issues and gaps in their processes, and not enough admin staff to sufficiently run day to day operations. Admin-wise, it is a train wreck. Nothing gets done properly or on time.
- As per the recent independent 'QILT' student survey, only 64.5% of students at Ikon reported having a positive experience there. That is well below the industry average.
- Ikon do not operate ethically, and are sole...
Terrible lecturers for early childhood education
This is a business to suck money out of international students. Poorly prepared 'lecturers' with no clue about early childhood education or adult teaching. Go elsewhere if you can. If you try to complain, they will kick you out you so enter at your peril.
Best to study elsewhere…
I undertook an Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Art Therapy with Ikon Institute back in 2017/2018 in Perth. At the time, it was the only course in Art Therapy available. The teachers were great, with valuable knowledge, however I believe there are huge problems with how it’s run or managed. Besides feeling like every module was checking a box via a completed 3000 word essay (with very little feedback), I had to finish my course at a later date, and despite handing in everything by an agreed date, and it being accepted via the student portal, i...have only been able to receive a Statement of Attainment and not my Diploma, as they believe it is not complete - yet I was still signed off to complete the placement at various locations of the modules that are marked as incomplete, include one which only allows you to go on placement if that the previous module is finished. With all my completed work, I have tried to contact them to attain my diploma, but they cannot accept it as they don’t run the Advanced Diploma anymore and told me to go to another place and see if I can get RPL. It’s been an awful personal experience of a lot of hard work for nothing, however they’re inconsistent (being a small institution, courses are constantly cut/changed I assume…) and will not support you. Seems more about money making than guiding and qualifying new counsellors and art therapists.
Another Brick in the Wall
In our assessments we are required to describe, evaluate, discuss, plan and talk about the importance, implementation and maintenance of the material. Unfortunately I feel in class we are not given the opportunity to fullfill these criteria. These way of learning is not stimulated in class as the learning is quite passive. The teacher reads slides for the majority of our online learning and the critical thinking and debating is non existent (face-to-face learning is also non-existent). She just deliver the lessons to get over and done with it.
Don't throw money away!
Ikon facts: 1. Even one day after the start of the classes period (orientation) the time table was incorrect on the Ikon website. The person responsible for guidance was not aware of this and told us to get informed through the website with incorrect information. Believing that I would study on Thursdays, I quitted a two-year job. After realizing the mistake I had a huge financial loss for not being able to work on the day I was supposed to be working. I also had to leave another job in a hurry so I could attend classes on Monday. Ikon remove...d the time tables from the website after my complaint and the time tables have not been updated on the site so far, almost three months later. 2. The assessments of a subject had no due date on the student portal and because of the teacher I realized that I had only two days to do it. 3. Student support does not understand the huge financial and emotional consequences of Ikon's administrative mistakes and how stressful it is. 3. We don't have face-to-face classes and the the equipment on campus is a poor quality laptop, with low sound. 4. One teacher reads slides during 95% of the class. 5. When I tried to talk to a teacher she didn't listen and tried to understand the problem, she didn't ask "why", she wanted me to accept that things are the way they are. I don't recommend this institution to anyone.
Please go elsewhere
The academics have the hugest egos. The signing up process (admin staff) are incredibly rude and degrading. The receptionist who answers the phone is completely lovely. All the staff could learn from her. Please go elsewhere and save yourself a lot of money and heartache.
Worst education provider
Failed at supporting me and other students in completing a course. Tried many times to finish the course and the support and resources were not in place to allow this. I completed EVERY subject and assessment with competency, and all my counselling hours and they took $35,000 without assisting me in finishing.
[name removed], the course administrator hung up on me twice due to the inability to manage the conversation in a professional manner. The second time I called was because I couldn’t believe that I had been hung up on.
DO NOT use this ...education provider. They took $35,000 of my money and didn’t even assist me in completing their course. I have studied at University and gained many certifications. Everything IKON stands for is a LIE. Teachers were lovely people. But the Institute itself is a joke.
No support and fail to answer any queries
The worst educational provider I have been to thus far in which they never follow up ANYTHING and leave things UNANSWERED for months. I have never felt so unsupported as a student and would NOT recommend this school to anyone. The only decent thing was the quality of the teachers but educational support officer and management will leave you unanswered and frustrated - go elsewhere.
Was considering this course but have changed my mind due to the unprofessional time frame of marking assignments, lack of compassion to students with suddenness of an immediate family death, non humanitarian, no area to discuss perception, extreme lack of support to several students I have discussed this with
The course itself was awesome. The Teachers were great. Too bad that the support the Students get from Ikon is very poor.
You will get minimal support when it comes to Placement and if your looking at an Exciting Graduation then forget about it.
Your support lasts until they get their final payment and then too bad, no more support.
I would not recommend study through Ikon. Go through someone who can provide a graduation.
Well done Ikon!!!
Corporate Sales tactics
Disappointing after reading online about the IKON view of Counseling I was sad to speak to another private corporation trying to sell education through a guilt trip. I had called the institute countless times and receive no call back, upon initiating my enrollment without contact, I had failed to see an underlying fee that was not able to be deferred to Vet Loan. So I made a decision to cancel my Enrollment. (Mind I had not sent the information required by the letter of confirmation so there was no inconvenience to administration) When I tol...d them I was unable to afford the payments and would need to considered enrolling in the future when circumstances were better I was first told there are no mid-year entries, when I said that's okay I'll wait till next year, I was told, "Well we keep your cancellation on record and may not accept you next time". I felt as though a threat, an ultimatum to purchase something I was in good mind not within my ability to afford. Never applying here again not into sales pricks trying to guilt people into Debt. Private Education is a money machine!! Watch out for these sharks.
Wish I could give a zero score - Don't put yourself through this.
My review is based on the following personal experience at this institute:
I never submitted any late assignment, missed only one lecture and have completed my studies months ago but still haven’t received accreditation.
The course I completed covered significant emotional content and was experiential in nature, it is fair to assume most students who enter this line of studies are either brought to this course due to lived experience or are very young and truly interested in the field, this being said I am a mature aged student with significant lived experience.
Misleading and very distasteful
Ikon is happy to take absolutely no accountability for their actions. As always. The worst communication. They pulled support at the beginning of our prac placement without telling anyone, changed the timetable without telling anyone, no one responds or writes back to you. Most teachers are completely incompetent and underqualified. Not to mention inexperienced. For a "leading psychotherapy institute" they are very below par.
Greedy, money grabbers, worst admin ever.
I studied a diploma of transpersonal art therapy having completed 90% of the course. Throughout my study with Ikon the administration team in particular was horrible. They do not know how to communicate and can't seem to get back to students in a timely manner. It has taken me atleast 3 years to get my question answered about how i go about finishing the rest of my degree. Now they tell me they do not offer the course anymore and there is no way i can complete it! I am still determined to finish my qualification, but all they want me to do is study a completely different course and take more of my money.
A low quality study experience
It felt important to submit a review here as this company look all wonderful on the shiny brochures and website. Their information is very deceptive.
I studied an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling in 2017. Many facilitators were incompetent with the counselling teaching material and often late to class, late returning from lunch, they basically didn't seem to care about our time. Most were very poor facilitators - which led to situations where student safety was in doubt. The administration team were rude and slow to respond to ...inquiries. IKON are trying to expand and benefit from government assistance via loans. That was evident in their lack of response to critical issues. Not to mention many of the promises in the brochure (such as accreditation with counselling bodies) was later retracted - you don't get what you sign up for. Most (if not all) of the students in my class were shocked by the poor learning experience and only 'stuck with it' to at least obtain the diploma. Here I am with a $20,000 student loan to pay off. I wish that you find a better option for your future study.
