As long as you don't want service.
Works reasonably well but doesn't keep a straight line.
Works well on most surfaces.
If you hit a wet patch there is NO support; they will try to sell you another unit even if the repair should be simple.
Purchased in June 2016 for $599.00.
Drops dirt every time bin is removed
This would be an excellent robot cleaner if it didn't keep dropping dirt every time the bin was removed. What do I mean by this? You can't simply leave Roomba where it is and remove the bin as it leaves a pile of debris on the floor. You actually need to pick up the robot and take the whole unit to the rubbish before you remove the bin. I believe the unit has a poor design with the bin as it doesn't capture everything cleanly and seems to make this mess quite often. I had an older model and it didn't have this issue. My guess is iRobot will eventually change the design of the bin but unfortunately it's too late for me.
Purchased in February 2019.
Had a few robot vacuums and they suffer from reliability issues. But it is worth paying more by buying a brand.
We have a dog and tiled and wooden floors and it just saves so much time.
Just press the button and off it goes and does a great job
Purchased in April 2017.
I use every day. But this is not good for using night .little bit noisy.and not very flat so you need to use mop too when you clean room especially under sofa . I can use under the beds too.but sometimes stuck under the bed . I always keep clean room and not messy on floor .if you drop some code charger and so on , may distroy by iRobot . Their brush is tough . It is good for everyday use . And also you can make automatic schedule for cleaning . But I don’t recommend if you have very good furniture. Maybe get some mark when iRobot hit chair and so on. Human hand vacuum is better than iRobot .but this is help for cleaning room for busy people . And you don’t need to clean up by hand heavy cleaner everyday . Normal vacuum are Maybe once per week is ok if you use iRobot together. Accessories are quit not cheap (brush and filter) but you can find and buy cheap same things in Aliexpress and other internet website . Better have extra spire . Because hair and so on often stick and be entwined on rolls.
Just keeps going
I bought this for my mum when it was first released. She had an earlier version as a trial, so I thought I’d get her the latest. At first she didn’t like the rubber roller, updated from the bristle one, and the fact the it didn’t mount small steps/wedges, such as floorboards to higher tiles, however it seems to have “learned” to navigate these. She doesn’t have carpet but it cleans boards, tiles and her rugs quite well. Can’t remember how long she has had this now but it has been quite a few years, (maybe 5) and she runs it all the time as she is a neat freak. Aside from bristle/roller changes, maintenance is easy and only changed the battery once. Good on hair, (pet and human) and whilst the noise annoys me, she doesn’t even seem to notice, hence, I suppose why she runs it all the time! Good little monster!
I have used three of the Neato vacuums for several years, and found them decent, but not a replacement for regular vacuuming with a good upright on carpet. The Neato's "intelligent" mapping of the room was somehow appealing. The Roomba is *much* better at cleaning carpets, and I think it could replace a good upright. I am using two of the Roombas and they are all-around excellent. The seemingly stupid random wandering of the Roomba seems to actually contribute to the cleaning power because it is constantly going over the same spots, and from different angles. The downside is that it takes much longer than the Neato to complete a room, but since you don't have to be there, I don't see that it matters. Also, the battery life of the Roomba seems to be three or four times greater than the Neatos, which often had to recharge during the job. The Roomba can do a 1,000 square foot carpeted area without recharge and do it really well. It also gets hung up on objects only very rarely, much less often than the Neato. I did have to buy two "Halo" units to prohibit its entering some very tricky places.
Perfect Addition to the Family
We purchased the Roomba thinking that it would be good to have something cleaning up the dust from the wooden floors but after a month we are wondering how we coped without it. It keeps our floors clean, tells us when she is done and keeps things tidy. The app and connection to Google is great. We have even given her a name.
Mans second best friend
About 2 years ago I purchased an Irobot to clean my small apartment in Sydney with not the highest expectation as it was a robot vacuum but we couldn't have pets so I got it as a pet for my partner. Well I must say not only is it one of the best purchases I've ever made it is actually incredibly good at cleaning and if you put googly eyes on it, you can make it a pet at your place if you're not allowed to have a pet. Hours of entertainment just watching the little guy do donuts and bump slightly into things and then remember where that thing is so that it slows down quicker when it gets there. We did a bond clean using just the Roomba for the vacuuming and it was absolutely spotless. 5 out of 5 stars if I could give more I would. Definitely a must buy if you are tossing up between a Dyson and this, choose this as it is similar in efficiency from what I've seen (I had a Dyson previously) but you get to sit down and watch!
Love my Roomba
I really love my Roomba. I don't know how floors get so much dust on them, but I'd be hauling my vacuum around every day without Roomba. It gets in nooks and crannies, and goes home when it's finished. He's one of the family. I've now purchased his brother from another mother, Braava.
Robotic Home Helper
Moved into a new (bigger) house and wanted some robotic help to keep the house clean. Overall, happy with the 890. Had some issues with the initial setup, but that was resolve and was due to our setup of our wifi. Have not used the Virtual Wall barrier.
Happy to be able to check on the status of the 890 via the iRobot app & remotely tasked it to clean the house, which can also be scheduled daily. You can hear it when it's running, it's a vacuum after all. Make sure you empty it after each cleaning cycle - it picked up plenty of cat fur, which is what it's intended for. For $2 a day, I reckon it'll pay itself within a year.
Floor type: Hardwood/laminate
Floor area (ground): 130 msq
Floor area (upper): 150 msq
Not as good as previous models
We have had two previous models of the Roomba and this one simply isnt as good as the other (older) models. It doesnt map the rooms as well as the older ones and doesnt seem to cover the entire house, missing entire areas time and again.
It does however do a great job of collecting the dust and dirt from the places it DOES go, but seems to seek out electrical leads to get tangled with and finds ways of getting caught in corners where it gets stuck.
Past models were flawless, so this one has been a bit of a disappointment and will probably stop us buying another iroomba.
I realise it was a model that had been discontinued when we bought it, but that should not have made any difference to its effectiveness as it was a new machine.
Great for daily use
Definitely helps keep the dog hair under control. Worth getting extended warranty as it’s been back several times. After 5 years the side wheel is making a weird noise and it’ll be going back for another warranty fix. Has the suction of a dust buster but effectively picks up the dog hair and surface bits etc
Love this piece of gadget
This is a hardworking vacuum cleaner. It’s smart enough to go throught thr edges of the wall. It does love to eat cables so i need to ensure the cables are not on the floor. I’ve hard it more then 3 years but i havent even replaced the batteries. This has made my house chores a lot easier. I also speaks a lot of languages
The everyday automated housemaid
Purchased this in 2017 and has never been happier. Makes my life so much easier with the push of a button. Yes it’s recommended to clear out smaller stuff off the floor before starting a job, but it still goes around obstacles such as table/chair legs perfectly fine. Hence I personally like to do it manually but I’m sure the scheduler also works like a charm. Easy cleaning and not too noisy either.
Perfect for me. I can’t live without it.
I absolutely love my robot vacuum cleaner, so much In fact that I have named her. Vivian. She cleans my floors and my carpeted areas while I sit and have a coffee. She’s so quiet and manovers all around the place. I just set her for the days that I want her to clean. She does it’s with ease. I just love her so much. The best thing I have ever bought.
Great little device.
This little vac is very handy, a tad noisy but useful.
You need to ensure it has a clear run with no little kids toys in the way or else it gets very stuck.
It’s great to schedule everyday to tidy the floors. We mainly use it on timber floors and it works well. Carpet is not a challenge for it.
The return to dock function is very useful.
Hopeless - creates more work!!
I bought this machine just over a month ago and have had problems from the get go. I have constantly been getting a full bin indicator, when it was not full. The hair and dirt was just collecting at the opening to the bin, then dumping it on the floor.
The customer care people advised me to clean the sensor, which I did. I don't get the full bin indicator as often, but the bin still won't fill. In fact, it will barely pick up fluff or dog hair from the carpet at all! I have video of it just rolling on over clumps of fluff and just leaving it - over and over again!
It also had a problem with the 2 rugs in my house. It would not transition from the carpet to rug at all, so the rugs both needed individual vacuuming. They are slightly shaggy, so I decided to get a new, lower pile rug for the lounge room and just used the regular vac on the other. Well it STILL won't go on the rug! It is a light coloured rug, so it has nothing to do with it thinking it is going over an edge, as suggested by customer care.
Now, I am being told that because I purchased the machine through Dick Smith, I need to speak to them regarding warranty claims or support, but cannot get anyone from that company to get back to me.
Disappointed to say the least and out of pocket $699!!! Will never deal with either of these companies again!
Not as good as the 780 in my opinion
We have multiple Labradors and my experiences have been that the 860 is not as good at picking up pet hair as the 780. Hair is often rolled into 'cigar' shapes and left behind as little deposits on the floor. Also, much of the hair and dirt does not go into the collector, but rather gets trapped between the rollers causing the full light to come on. This doesn't happen all the time but does happen regularly.
loving my new home healper
Very happy with my purchase and it cleans well. I can do lots of other things int he meantime and my apartment's carpets are always spotless. It glides easily on the carpet and is also easy to clean, I have not experienced any problems with this device so far and will gladly recommend it to a friend.
Handy and Helpful.
We are very impressed with the Roomba 860's ability to handle pet hair. Our dog sheds a lot and we use it every other day. Any hair that it can't handle, it whips into a ball for us which is easier to then pickup. It works really well on dust and dander and is great at detecting spots that need extra attention. Easy to empty and operate. It has trouble finding its was back to the dock, but it is a huge time saver in our house and we love it.
