Car drives well! My wife can even drive it (and she couldnt drive manual before this car!) Handles well and drives smooth, one tank lasts a long time as well! Great family car, my little one fits comfortably in the back and loves being able to look out the windows!
I have put this vehicle thru heaps, travelled the Cape, Camerons Corner, Tassie back blocks and got over BIG RED first attempt.
On the bitumen and absolute pleasure to drive.
My only reservation, not a negative but suspension a little rigid for passenger comfort..
However 9.5 out of 10
Love my D-Max
We went to have a look at the Isuzu because we needed something better to tow our caravan with, we only went to look, and we came home with a new D-Max, we fell in love with the X-Runner as soon as we saw it. It tows our caravan beautifully, has everything we want, really quiet inside, and really economical. Really good purchase price.
It's the best Tug I have had
After getting rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (that could not pull pussy up a hill) and purchasing the new LS-T Isuzu D Max 4 Door Ute,it was the best move I have ever made. I have traveled over the state of Tasmania and it hasn't missed a beat. I don't even know the van is behind me. We started in QLD and come down through NSW and VIC on our trip.
Excellent on and off road
Excellent vehicle, can't fault. It is also excellent on and off road. We have the automatic transmission and I would recommend a oil cooler for towing with an automatic of any vehicle brand. This vehicle has been up to Kalumburu and back without any problems (can't say the same with the Kimberley Kamper) Would purchase again.
after 45 years..our first choice for a new vehicle
Driving is easy. .handles great.
Comfortable seats.plenty leg room
Reliable great looking ute. Smooth running.
Simply love the look and easy handling.
Recommend a test run of this ute...best decision you will make . We waited 45 years for this amazing ute to evolve.
3ton towing capacity. Cant wait to hitch the van
September 5th 2017 Update: 10 months on..still love our DMAX.
Easy to handle. Manouvres well and runs quiet.. Over 10klm per 1 litre diesel . Very comfy seats and good leg room.. Starts first time - every time. Best choice we ever made . Simply love our DMax dual cab tray back .. very safe & easy to handle. And did i mention it has 3.5 ton towing capacity . Awesome ...January 6th 2019 Update: 2years on and still looks and runs like new Runs perfect, never an issue. Very happy with service with added car clean and wash. What can we say...just love our Xmas. First and only brand new car...after 47 years of second hands...We made best decision ever..the DMAX was for us. Highly recommend if you are looking for a tough ute to do the job. Its the Real ute.
Very comfortable and fantastic to drive. Love it!!
Bought our LSU D-Max in November 2016, took it to Canberra from Brisbane for a 'run', to get an idea of how it will go on a 'big' trip. I have to say we are very impressed with it. Heaps of power climbing the Toowoomba Range, and being a new motor we were surprised as to how the economy was going on the trip south, around 9-10L/100klms. By the time we had to return we were getting closer to the claimed economy, 8.8-9.5L/100klms. But still needs a few more Klms to get there. Running around NW Brisbane we are getting 8.9-9.2L/100klms. Unfortunat...ely only got around 4000klms on the clock due to an issue with the ride-on mower deciding to throw me off, and copping a spinal fracture. Ouch! Yep not good, so we are not getting out and about much at present. Even with that injury the D-Max is extremely comfortable to travel in to Doctors appointments considering our dodgy mountain road. Handling is very good, both on the mountain road corners where we live and on the straight open roads to Brisbanes' northern suburbs. Occasionally we can hear the radiator fan cut in, and the engine change gears up and down as we climb the mountain, but the noise is definitely not a concern. Considering this is a (light) truck, it is quite expected and acceptable. So far we have only had to put fuel in to it, and the Canberra trip saw us getting better tank range as we clocked up the klms. From an estimated 700klms to the tank from new (1st tank - of which the dealer filled in our presence) to an estimated excess of 900klms to the tank now. So I would assume that as we get a few more klms up it will get over 1000klms to the tank, which makes for a great tourer. Looking forward to some serious travels. Costs wise we made 5 fuel stops/top-ups from Brisbane to Canberra and return. Most impressed with how it went on the trip. We got the Tour Mate package that was on sale at the time, so didn't need to buy any immediate extras, it came with a Canopy, Tow-bar, Tub liner, Weather-shields and Bonnet protector. Very impressive package. Had we purchased when we first looked, some months earlier, we would have had to spend quite a few $$$ to upgrade to this package. Edit: 6th May 2017 - Well we have just returned from a trip out to Cameron Corner, the long way, via St George, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Innaminka, the Strzelecki track, and back around to the corner. Can't say how impressed we were with the D-max. Economy got down to 7.4L/100k on some sections. We did hundreds of klms in 4wd on the 'track' and the Cameron Corner road back out to Tibooburra, then to White Cliffs, there ended the dirt and 4wd. 4000klms plus. An amazingly competent and comfortable vehicle.
Great ute. Very economical and capable of tough tasks
My vehicle has the Pedders GVM upgrade which does result in some rigidity in the ride when empty. However when loaded to capacity, this vehicle doesnt miss a beat. Very stable. Full loading barely affects fuel economy either which was a pleasant surprise. 800km from a tank of diesel is no problem. Very reliable versus Ranger and much better value for money than Hilux. Great farm ute overall and highly recommended.
The best 4WD & family vehicle
Beautiful car to drive, handles the road smoothly not bumpy at all like other 4WD's. Interior is nice and simple in a charcoal, comfy seats, it's a pity the back seat isn't a splitting seat as it would make putting car seats in a lot easier. Very reliable car, a full tank of diesel gets us about 850 kilometres we do a lot of highway driving. She handles off road like a dream, beach driving was very smooth.
- D-MAX RC.I (2012-2016)
By far the best ute I have had
Purchased a new D-Max LS-T in April 2015 through my Novated lease company after previously having a Navara 2.5TD (which is another horror story). I did a fair bit of research against all the other double cab utes on the market (incl Chinese and Indian). Some had a greater torque output, others with better 'offline' acceleration, comfort etc. After test driving nearly all of them, the D-Max won. It was the only true 3.5t tow capacity, in that you could still take passengers, have a full fuel tank and a bit of a load and still tow up to 3.5t. Aft...er towing my caravan with the Navara and achieving a mind numbing 35l/100km, the D-Max came in at 15l/100km which automatically convinced me I had made the right choice. On 'normal' trips and around town, am getting under 9l/100km which is pretty good. I use this ute for work and travel about 45,000km/yr, it is very comfortable, has been super reliable and feels safe on any road. Even tried the Fitzroy Development Rd between Taroom and Banana in CQLD with ESC disengaged and engaged and found the later was rock solid. Have had to use low range a couple of times both with the van and without in some tricky bits, other than the annoying beeping when in LR, this ute just climbs out of everything with minimal fuss. Am about to get new tires after 74,000km and will be opting for the Bridgestone H/T that it came with as they give me the traction I need when I need it and the low noise and comfort on the highway (where most people drive anyway). Only negatives, occassionally get a steering knock on rough roads which hasn't developed further, but will monitor. The fuel gauge light comes on followed by the level bar flashing which gives no indication on when you will actually run out, previous vehicles have counted down the kms, this one just says "low Fuel" using the mileage dash display which can be unerving when 50km+ from a servo. Also the GPS mapping is next to useless, sends you on paper roads, takes the long way and ETA's can be 30-40min out on a 200km trip. Fortunately the Garmin I have is great. The LS-T has all the bells and whistles, leather, video dash, GPS, Blue tooth etc., etc., so I am spoilt, but would easily recommend the LS-U these days to anyone who wants a workhorse and weekend toy.
Problem with radio reception
After sale service from dealer and head office was appalling no one ever returns a call .After i had the problem fixed by a radio specalist and gave the dealer the bill they sent it to head office who refused to pay .After 4 x radios and 3 x areials the service manager paid the bill but i had to fight to get a warranty problem fixed and paid for .Not very happy with dealer or head office.
Very reliable. Does what it says it will do..
I’ve had my 2014 LS-U D’Max since July 2014. It's a reliable work horse and has never given me any trouble. I’ve travelled to outback NSW and QLD, up to the gulf country, mostly on dirt and corrugated roads.
The engine and auto transmission Isuzu have used in this truck are proven performers and I’m very happy with the level of comfort it provides me on those longer trips. Sure this model doesn’t have the climate control, touch screen LCD monitor and other bells and whistles the other manufactures are offering, but that’s not what I was a...fter. I was looking for reliability, safety and longevity. I'm very happy with the handling of the vehicle considering its size. The noise of the diesel is clacky when sitting at the lights, but its an old school diesel, and to be honest, I kidda like it. Towing has never been an issue and will carry my off-road camper with ease, almost to the point I don't know its there at times. It has around 65,000k’s on it now, and not even a rattle. When I first bought the vehicle the fuel economy was pretty good, and was very close to what the manufacturer stated, once I added the bulbar, winch, canopy, roof racks, aux battery, fridge and toolbox, that all went out the door. However, around town it’s still around the 10 litres per 100km, and doesn’t move much from there even out on the highway. Again for the weight I’ve added, I’m happy with that. I have recommended this vehicle to friends and two of them have bought the 2015 model. They're also very happy with there choice.
Love the D Max.
This is the second Isuzu LS-M D max that we have bought and could not be happier. The power is ample and the towing with our 2.9 tonne van is carefree and safe.
We have averaged 12.4 ltr/100klms over the 20,000 klms that we have travelled since purchasing the vehicle in December 2015.
The interior is adequate and is easy to keep clean with the vinyl floor and the dashboard is workable an easy to read.
Keep up the good work.
Great Ute, Love it
Have done 10,000Km. No hassles great ute to drive on long trips, comfortable ride, fuel varies from 8 to 9.5L/100km. Plenty of leg room, could easily fit 3 kids Seats in the back. Dislikes, the side mirrors make objects look soooo far away I don't see cars sneaking up behind me, also needs mudguards at the front of the rear tyres as they throw mud onto the side steps. Overall just love this ute so much I convinced my parents to buy the M-UX which they enjoy as well. I don't know of any real bad points to say about it. Would definitely recommend to anyone, family, tradie, farmer.
Why would you buy anything else!
I looked and drove them all VW, HILUX, RANGER ,NAVARA and went with this 3.0 not over turboed like the rest of them and a very reliable isuzu engine, I'm sure the biggest truck builder in the world knows how to make a good diesel engine plus I wanted the engine to be built by the manufacturer and not some out sourced outlet like the rest of them. Also be wary of dodgy reviews from toyota trolls on this site there not hard to catch out if you read very carefully.
I bought the HI RIDE 4x2 for $29,900 drive away auto, compared to 40k for the other...
2013 Dual Cab LSM ... Awesome vehicle - should have bought one sooner
BEST vehicle in its class
I've done 217,000kms so far and could not be happier.
General driving (around town, traffic, air con on, stop start etc) I'm getting around 8.3lt/100kms
Highway (which I do a fair amount of and quite often at 80-90km/hr in 4wd high) I'm getting around 8.0lt/100kms
Highway with no trailer she'll generally run at around 7.8-7.9lt/100kms
I looked at Hilux which seemed overpriced for what you get, I looked at Navara, which I found too many faults in, in short I looked at heaps of options and this was the be...
Big mistake, buy something else.
Gearbox issues from new. Gearbox notchy and noisy. Changed oil and it was full of metal Rebuilt the box, got the car back and it was worse. Eventually got a new gearbox, got treated by servicing department like I was the problem. New gearbox got noisy, sold the car after just 1 year lost $12,000, good riddance.
Had our 15 xrunner for 14000kms and my wife and myself love it. Suspension bit bumpy but it is a ute with no weight in the back. As it gets older have noticed fuel economy getting better, tows well, sat nav good, stereo could be better, rear camera good, good on the beach.
Tuff 2014 Isuzu dmax x runner ute
I have owned my dmax x runner manuel for a year now with only 16000 ks so far to good being in the trucking industrie everyone knows Isuzu build good trucks and have been for decades I have driven navaras hiluxes patrols and landcruisers but I went with isuzu cause of the history best ute I have ever bought I haven't had any problems will be a keeper till I go
Great, should have bought one ages ago
Vehicle handles very well, has good leg room front and back and is extremely economical. We have travelled 6,000 ks over the last two months and it has not missed a beat. The D-Max has been bought for towing a caravan and we cannot wait to hit the road on one our adventures.
An absolute GEM.
Done 28000 kms, towed tandem trailer from Whyalla to Qld twice. Great fuel economy, comfort, no rattles or problems. Will be towing a c'van starting 2016 and i reckon will cruise with confidence with the choice. Will change tyres before setting out on the hwy. Thank you Pt Augusta Isuzu, great team you guys/gals are.
2013 LS-M dual cab. Wouldn't buy another one
Purchased dec 2013. 5 speed manual. Gear shift is dodgy, feels sticky changing through gears like you have to force it in gear, got told by Isuzu this is normal, even though I drove another and the gearshift was fine. Passenger seatbelt locks whilst on and has to be undone to rectify. Front seats are shaped like a banana (closest comparison) so they force your back out and your neck forward, have to lean it back to use. Fuel consumption is good 8.3/100. Keys are super bump sensitive. No auto light turn off and key hole doesn't light up. Sea...t belt, 'light on' and 'key remain' beeper and grammar drives me nuts. Especially when you're on property opening and closing gates and chasing cattle. They are not that quiet inside whilst driving, appears to be window noise. Towing, I feel they're a little gutless when you need the power, definitely would not be towing 3.5t with it! Up side. They travel well and handle various roads and basic off road situations quite well, surprisingly. And they look good. I'll see what the Isuzu warranty people will do with any of the above, but as you have read with problems above the likeliness of purchasing another one is lining up pretty close to 0.
Not impressed with its lack of guts.
I have had Isuzu d-max single cab two drive for just on 12 mths,NOT IMPRESSED,Engine is noisy at low speed,I have a 5 speed manual you have to take it to around about 3000 revs to keep up with the traffic,on the open road or highway if you want to over take a slower vehicle traverling around 90 to 100 kms you have to change to 4th gear to get around them or it just does not happen, before I bought the d max I had a Madza BT 50 2.5 litre turbo diesel, it had 100 kilawatts, the Dmax is 130 kilawatts, but the Madza would crap all over this one. Fuel economy is good, comfort is fair, ride is fair,it is able tow 3 ton,on the flat yes, hilly country it would really struggle.
2012 model lsm twin cab ute, bought new feb 2013, I don' believe any other brand of ute could be any better than this one, we have been all over oz towing 16ft poptop and there is no way any other ute could do the job as good as this one, 15,000k las trip with a lot of weight on van and ute for 11.3lt 100k, very comfortable and smooth. Love it! Due for new ute next year and it will be another d-max, wouldn't consider anything else, bought it from Gilbert and roach at hunting dale, they were great to deal with and I'll get the next on there, it's very satisfying to to purchase something which is great value for money.
2012 Isuzu D-Max
Great ute I am a logging contractor in NZ so this ute goes through water mud dust you name it every day. We also have a 2011 Hilux and a 2011 BT-50 Mazda. Used as work utes. All have been reliable considering the work they do the Mazda split a front cv cup at 45,000ks the D-Max has a very solid feel to it when driving and it actually has grease points underneath (pretty important when going through water alot) the other two utes don't. The D-Max has 50,000ks on it with no problems at all very happy with it and when it comes time to upgrade I'll...be buying another D-Max I won't be trading this ute in on a new one, I'll be passing it down the ranks, that's how much confidance I have in this ute. PS: the engine in the D-Max is G10 rated wich means 90% are expected to do 500,000ks before needing any repairs. 3 years 90,00km 2 sets of mud tyres 2 warrants absolutely no issues so far still very happy Reliability, fuel economy Rear mud flaps to long I rip them off when backing over mud ect
