Good if you’re moving around
Pass was great but would be good to be able to extend 1 or 2 days to include you entire stay. Easy to use in all stations and JR staff were really helpful
Annoying having to stand in long, slow moving lines after a long flight, waiting to exchange the vouchers. A pity the voucher isn't activated some other way - electronically, when first entering a station.
Excellent value, however could be improved.
Very good service and great value. However, I would like to have the option to purchase Nozomi Shinkansen access. However, definitely 4 Stars and incredible delivery and easy instructions on how to exchange when arriving in Happen.
it was great
It was easy to use and very convenient. Loved how we could book our seats on the fast train. Very worthwhile. We were able to travel from Osaka to Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo using our pass.
Not good value for us
It was not good value really for us. We travelled nagano-kyoto- tokyo. Too hard to use in Kyoto - ended up stressed, catching wrong trains. Not enough info on the web in English. Have used JR east before and was happy with that. Japan Pass was a waste of money
Good but limited
Great for long distance travel but few lines within cities. States the pass is valid for all JR lines but there are some lines it isn’t valid for, which is confusing for foreign customers who can’t read japanese and are unfamiliar with the system.
Good to know travel within Japan covered before you go.
Rail Pass is excellent and relatively easy to use. Having access to online timetables would be great, which I did find on the last day. Before then we spoke with staff at information desk for JR Rail a number of times. Sometimes staff were excellent and very helpful. Sometimes not.
Overall, thoroughly recommend.
Quick to purchase,easy to use
Our J R pass was an essential part of our great Japanese trip we recently finished.
The trains took us to all our destinations, including some off the tourist track.
The trains are super comfortable,on time, clean and smooth.
We would definitely get the pass again
Good for Tokyo and Osaka, and travelling between cities.
Easy to activate and order from Australia. Used the pass in Tokyo and Osaka a lot, but not so much in Kyoto and Hiroshima who seem to be more dependent on bus and tram lines that are not covered. Well worth the money if you are going across country on the train lines, and are staying near JR lines in bigger cities.
Worth the money if you have multiple places to visit.
We're a family of 4 and travelled to multiple cities over 2 weeks so well worth the money as it covers both tbebullet and express trains which are great. Only point of note is it doesn't cover the metro subways, but they're relatively cheap anyway.
Great pass. Easy to use!
Very easy to use. Valid on most lines through Tokyo but we also had to buy a fair few extra rides. Maybe the passes should include local lines as well. It would have been a bit faster to have some sort of electronic ticket too rather than having to show the attendant every time we went in and out of the gates. All in all, Japan trains are excellent. They are always on time, always clean, quiet, easy to navigate and safe. We loved the shinkanzens too!
Very happy with my refund
All I would say is that the express post highlighted on the website is not a true express post. Also for customers Australia Post does not track parcels accurately and the scanning of parcels only happens at start and finish of delivery. This is frustrating when your waiting for an important parcel. May I suggest option of express courier.
If you are travelling to several areas in Japan, the JR Rail Pass is good value as trains are expensive. The trains are very comfortable, clean and punctual. The Japan Rail Pass Now company was very efficient in delivering the vouchers for the passes and they provide useful information about how the system works.
Two issues we found were: 1. You cannot book seats before you get your actual pass and are in the country with your passport. This can present a problem if you are travelling in peak times. 2. You cannot use the super fast (ie. non stop) Shinkansen trains on major routes, we could still use Shinkansen trains but they tended to have a few stops. This is not a big problem but it does limit your choice of trains.
Provided great value for money for our travel to south of Tokyo. Very easy to organise - the only negative was the line up at the airport to get our Pass on arrival however we were warned that this may take some time with the information provided with our Exchange Ticket
Japan Rail Pass
Easy to use on all JR lines throughout Tokyo, very convenient. Well worth it, specially when using the Shinkansen to visit other major cities like Osaka, Kyoto or Hiroshima. Easy to book seats at JR service centres.
