good value

published

Used JR Pass in late November/early December for 11 days in Japan. It is many years since I visited. JR Pass available in 7 day increments so purchased 14 day pass as I needed it for travel on first and last day. I estimate that I was making a profit from day 10(with 4 days validity left if I could have stayed longer). Sometimes booked seats and sometimes just arrived in time. Pass made this easy to do and avoided some delays. Also allowed spontaneous deviations. My travels involved Tokyo to Joetsu and around Niigata Prefecture and adjoining areas. Used on 7 of 11 days.

The JR Pass was an excellent choice for our family on our recent trip to Japan. We used it to travel across vast areas of the country with no additional costs.

Definitely worth every cent!

published

The easiest way to get around Japan is by using the Shinkansen Bullet Trains, and this pass just made it 100 times quicker and more streamline. Usually we would book our reserved seat the day before we wanted to travel to the next city - the JR pass made the process smooth and efficient. It also meant that we weren't having to fork out more cash each time for our ticket, everything was already paid for. We calculated all the trains we went on using our JR pass (Shinkansen and Subway in Tokyo) and definitely came out on top money wise. It is worth the investment to save not only money but a lot of time in train stations in Japan.

Best way to travel Japan.

published

An outstanding rail network hosting excellent trains that are clean and on time. Whether its a Shinkansen whisking you over long distances, a Limited Express taking the scenic route at speed or one of the special little trains taking the slow route, you will not be disappointed.
All planned using Hyperdia and seats booked so efficiently at J R Ticket Offices.

You need it!!!

JRP is the best option to travel through Japan, you can save a lot of money. Just keep in mind that some trains and some buses are not cover for JRP. If you want to travel into any city of Japan you can buy a day pass ticket in any station.

Essential purchase for Japan travel

published

JRpass was a very good investment for our first trip to Japan. Next time we go to Japan, we will wanting JRpasses. On one occasion went to an exit without a JRpass checking station, but only a very minor inconvenience - JR staff at/near exits were very helpful directing us to correct exit. Having a JRpass meant that when we went out the wrong exit, we could easily just retrace our steps and find the other exit.

This was the best idea ever

We spent 5 days based in Tokyo and 5 in Kyoto and used these as a base and explored on the shinkansen everyday. We saw so much and it so easy to make reservations.

Cost effective & Efficient

published

Process was so simple, easy to follow and saved us a lot of time (and saved us some money)
Can be used on a lot more lines than I thought, ALOT of signage at all the train stations. JR is used heavily there and all station attendants are familiar with tourists using the pass.
Highly recommend doing research before visiting, learning the lines to use and remember to 'reserve seats' when using the bullet trains or Narita Express to guarantee yourself a seat - this can be done at the JR OFFICES at the train station

Excellent travel tool

published

The JR pass is fantastic. Once I worked out that you don't have to make a reservation, you can just queue for an unreserved car, it was fantastic. The service is far more affordable than booking a single trip, which I had to do when my pass expired. The carriages are far better than economy in an airplane and the ride is much quieter, too.

Best way to get around Japan !

Great value. Could use just about every where we travelled. Just not on local bus in Kyoto. Even covered hop on hop off bus and ferry in Hiroshima! A must have when travelling around Japan. Easy to use.

Efficient

Efficient and cheaper than going through and purchasing tickets for each of the trains. Would prefer however if the dates were not limited to 7, 14 or 21 as it limits flexibility.

Easy and highly recommend

We used the 14 day pass and ended up breaking even when calculating ticket cost but the ease of the pass while travelling was well worth it. We will use the pass again next time we visit.

Must have for long distance travel in Japan

published

Very quick to arrive after ordering. Easy to use for Skinkansen travel - Tokyo-Hiroshima-Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo. Excellent seats and leg room on very fast trains. Just remember to reserve your seats for busy times or make use of the unreserved cars on each train.

I wouldn't travel in Japan without it!!

published

From the second we purchased the vouchers until the last day we used our passes, everything was easy. We travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto with a 7 day pass and used it quite a lot going to and from Osaka and other destinations once we arrived in Kyoto. There are even some buses you can use the pass on. Great value!!!

14 Day pass

published

Travelled around Yakadaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and everywhere in between. There was a long wait at Narita to collect pass however after that it was great. Didnt read the details correctly which state you cannot use the Nozomi Shinkansen which meant our travel times blew out a bit. Also need to book seat on Narita express - was a bit unclear on that too. Next time I would ensure our accommodation is on the JR lines - not alternate subway lines as also needed IC card for subway connections.
It is expensive but if you plan to see a lot of Japan in a short amount of time this is the only way to go!

Fantastic for travel in Japan

published

Although a lot of times we didn't realise we could have used the JR Pass, we found it very helpful for the Shinkansen and local trains when travelling around Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone and Hiroshima. The bullet train in Japan is incredible and saves so much travel time. The JR Pass made it seamless. Just be wary of which trains you can use with the pass, some of the Shinkansen lines you cannot use (this is disclosed on the pass itself though). We also found you could reserve seats on the bullet trains by going into the JR offices with the pass which made travel more comfortable and less stressful.

Must have for those visiting Japan

published

Visited Japan recently Tokyo Osaka Hiroshima Hakone and Karuizawa and made good use of the JR Pass which is convenient and cost effective. We got the Green car (1str class) which is great but need to pre booked. ( finding the booking offices were not easy). We also traveled a few trips on the ordinary car some of which had standing room only.

Expensive but extremely useful

published

Since my trip involved plenty of moving from one city to another, and lots of inner city trains, the JR Pass made everything so much easier. We can go pretty much whenever we want to wherever we want. All we had to do is just show up at the station and show the pass. The only issue is the pass only comes in 7 or 14 days time frame, so for a lot of people who does in between like 10 days, it gets a bit tricky cause 7 days is too short and 14 days is too much

Very easy to purchase the Japan Rail Pass from this company. We received the exchange orders within 2 days of ordering with clear instructions and information to get & use the pass in Japan. Highly recommend paying the extra for a Green Car pass if you are travelling throughout the country. A great experience overall.

A very convenient pass if you are travelling across different cities in Japan. If you just visit one or two cities it is not worthy.you can use all JR system except two types of shinkansen
