Don't buy a Jeep!
I'd like to thank Chrysler and their trained mechanics at Know Chrysler in Knox VIC and also Northern Motor Group in Bundoora VIC - you have no clue how to fix your own vehicles!!!
I was charged over $1000 to replace a power steering hose - and had to wait 12 days as apparently Chrysler discontinued support for my vehicles engine and power steering system?!! Knox Chrysler order new parts twice and they didn't fit my vehicle, then had to wait in Chrysler Engineers from the US to tell them how to fix it. I'm not a license mechanic but maybe ...you should have tried a hydraulic hose shop down they street?! And to Northern Motor Group - you charged me hundreds to fix my check engine light - which turned out to be an electronic fault in the turbo actuator - you said it was all fixed, then when the customer service representative drove it out of the service bay, the CEL came back on and the problem was the same as when I dropped it off a week earlier. Today you replaced to whole turbo for thousands of dollars, when I picked the vehicle up it was perfect - for less then 20 kilometres - when the CEL cam backlights on and the vehicle lost all power and went back to the same condition is was when I dropped it off to you (the second time) two days earlier. As an aside - these aren't minor or the only problems I had - on purchasing the jeep with a Mopar lift installed by Werribee Chrysler - the steering bangs and knocks. Northern Motor Group determined it was the "aftermarket" lift kit that was hitting the frame of the vehicle??!
Love it so much, I want to buy another
I bought the short wheel base Wrangler Overland as a second vehicle. I fell in love with the driving experience so much that my Mercedes has been sitting in the garage for months on the battery charger.....The ride takes a little to get used to after driving a sedan, but the high position is very comfortable.....My 85 year old mother loves riding in it and has no problem climbing in.....The interior and options in the Overland makes it worth the extra money. Leather seats, SatNav, DVD, Reversing camera....Reliability is great, I have not had an...y issues with the Jeep mechanically. Fuel consumption is a little higher than I though, but it's a tough and heavy body, yet the 3.6L pulls her along fine....Removing the hart top is quick and easy, and the drive with the open top is fun....I love it and would not hesitate to buy another.
Purchased in November 2015 at Private.
Good Value for Money
Purchased new in 2014 the jeep drives well good power from petrol engine and manual transmission plenty legroom good dash lay out and ease of use . Sat Nav ok but don't expect voice recognition to work ask for a street in own town you will end up ringing some one in japan. Never have taken the hard roof or panels off still got the soft roof in delivery boxes But leaks like a sieve .The jeep wrangler unlimited has its own portfolio on roof leaks ,to fix them go to you tube and fix them yourself if you don't want to be without a vehicle for to lo...ng ,Offcourse jeep will fix them under warranty if it is still under warranty of coarse . Minor factory recall for air bag which was fixed with no problem Roof leaks I fixed myself. Nearly done 14000 km since new , tyres wearing ok it helps that you can check the tyre pressures of each wheel on your dash no excuses for under inflation. average fuel con. is @14L/100km in town 11L/100km highway that's the best I have ever got 110 kmh. services are due 6 monthly last cost $265 . Plenty power plenty room good all round vision plenty room in back for cargo even more if you fold down rear seats. Good Value good looking , Would I buy another ? at this point I would have to say yes.
JK Unlimited Overland - great package
I bought my JK new at the start of 2014. Like 99% of new cars these days it is reliable and has done all that I've asked of it from day one.
What I like:
Powerful but fuel efficient 3.6l petrol. I bought a diablo tuning package for it (plug and play) and it has transformed both the power/torque and fuel consumption. The five speed auto is very well matched; my pet peeve with autos in other vehicles is the hesitation you get with some when you want to speed up quickly, not so with the (Mercedes-benz sourced) unit. It seems to anticipate wha...
09 diesel 4 Dr
Had for two years and done 50km in it, haven't had one thing happen yet, drove it after xmas to Flinders across to leigh creek and up onadatta track past lake ayer to coober pedy all off road and to uluru, then off road again through tribal lands to Alice springs, used bitumen back to adelaide . After 5000km while towing a caravan the whole trip I can't fault the turbo diesel, love this bloody car, it ain't a super model in looks but once you get one there is no other car that catches your eye. Except a wrangler with a chick driving.
Honest warning Stay away from jeep
Warning just dont buy one to many faults to list you will nedd 2 jeeps just to keep one going complete rubbish love the look and driving off road but un trustworthy not reliable I must off got the lemon clucth, gearbox lights on dash wiring harness radiator headleak to much to mention you get a good one or a lemon its a lotto
Solid offroader with rubbish customer support
Bought my current Wrangler as a used with 50K on the odometer. It had never been off the road before I got it. It's 4 years later now and I've done over 170K in it. Okay for starters this is a proper 4x4 and not a AWD. It has Solid axles front and rear with a strong transmission with transfer case. The Engines power and torque are average at best, but it's an under-stressed 3.8l V6 pushed 1.8 tons around. Over the life of the vehicle my average fuel economy is 11.4L/100km which is 80% Highway driving. Fuel economy gets a lot worse if you've got...a heavy foot, 4x4ing or carrying a heavy load. Worst I saw was 16.8L/100km towing a broken down car on trailer. OFFROAD; the vehicle is very capable, just set your tyres to the right pressure for the conditions and it will go anywhere. With slightly wider tyres (265vs245) I usually run 13-1psi in sand, and 20-25psi on rocky and gravelly tracks. High range is quite long in the tooth doing barely 2000rpm at 110kph, but it has a quite short low range where the engines mild performance can be best used. Maximum torque is from 2000-4500rpm so keep in that range for best results. ONROAD; it's average. The solid axles lend to a rougher ride, but because a Wrangler is Coil sprung front and rear it handles quite well for what it is. If it had leaf springs it wouldn't be anywhere near as nice. Fuel economy can be bad if you pushing a headwind due to the box shape. Slow down to 100 and you'll save a fair bit of juice. QUIRKS; Obviously it's that Roof that you can remove. I generally only use the hard top and not bother with the soft top. The soft top tends to be fairly noisy, but the hard top is much quieter if seated properly. You can get wind leak noises if it's slightly misaligned. I've never had a problem with water leaks on either Soft or Hard top. Over the years as the rubber seals have withered a bit the wind noise has got worse, but it's not terrible. Tyre noise doesn't penetrate the cabin much at all due to the Ladder subframe-chassis setup. The heaters are very good and the AC works fairly good too, but there is no cabin filter for the 07-09 model. PARTS and SERVICING; This is where it gets bad. Quite frankly Fiat Chryslers track record in Australia for customer support and after sales service is poor, and it's a well warranted record. I had an ECU adjustment done that cost $75 to stop the headlights turning on when I remote unlock. Two weeks later the ECU magically reset itself and their answer was 'they just do that'. Absolute crap. Getting parts can be nightmare, and the price mark up is crazy. I wanted to replace a full door seal...$432AUD for the genuine Mopar part and a 2-4 week wait. I looked up a USA aftermarket parts supplier. $140AUD after conversion for the EXACT SAME genuine Mopar part and to my door in 4 days freight included. It's not all bad though as parts and mods are readily available from a multitude of USA suppliers, and they are happy to ship. There are some aftermarket suppliers in Australia, but you have to pick and choose as some are good and fair priced, and others are just scum trying to scalp people. CONCLUSION; It's a solid offroad machine that handles okay on road, and that 'Roof off' feeling is awesome in summer months. Just make sure you get a good one that hasn't been abused. Fuel economy is fair for it's size and shape. If you can handle a bit of wind noise it's good fun.
Very good truck
This is now my third review on this vehicle. It just gets better. Have now done 155k and not one single problem. 20 inch coopers, twin exhaust, CAI, throttle body spacer and 10mm ignition leads and I get 12/100 round town and 11/100 open road at 100 - 105 kph and also drives a lot smoother. In addition use 95 octane and this greatly improved economy and smoothness. It has adequate power and torque but a bit sluggish on open road - overtaking is definitely a 5th gear job. Reliability has been excellent. Secret is regular service - I do my own - ...synthetic oil and filter every 10k, diff oils every 20k (synthetic), transfer case every 40k (again synthetic) and plugs every 40k plus wash k/n fiter every 40k. Probably over serviced but it certainly still drives like a new car. Stay away from jeep dealer servicing as it is expensive and sub-standard. As for warranty support - it is non existent. Cars are great - dealers are crap. Interior is basic and simple but wears very well. Keep in mind though that it really is only meant for 2 people. Plenty room and comfort for 2. Back seat for show only. All in all been very happy and would recommend to any one not wanting a sports car. Its a 4x4 and a lot of fun. Update: 166k now and still no issues. Coopers now done 81k - awesome tyres just right for wrangler.
Purchased in November 2011 at Jeep Dealers for $39,000.
Fun to drive, but crap customer service
Bought our Jeep new at Tynan in Miranda, NSW. Did everything to sell us the car, but customer service has been very disappointing.
We love the car, despite having to replace four door & bonnet hinges due to rust and the poor customer service. Off road the car is fabulous, while on road handles very well. The only downside is the thirst for petrol, very hungry.
Wait till you have it for a while. It will fall apart
An excellent 4WD and also very good at towing the off road camper trailer. However, mine is a 2009 and it leaks, I've replaced door seals already, mechanically I have had to replace switches and parts that you would not expect for a new-ish car. It's bouncy and rough but good fun, just don't expect it to be hassle free. Parts are very expensive including tyres, battery and just about anything else with a Jeep badge.
got me hooked
I got the first of the JK model built Oct 2012 as a MY13 model, an Overland 2-door with luxury touches and ample smooth petrol power. Never a problem, just start-n-go-n-go. It was used as an offroader, not a city commuter. More capable than most rigs right out of the showroom, in fact it stayed that way and kept up with some heavily modified others on the track. If you are looking for a city daily driver, this is no soft-road SUV, off the bitumen is where it shines. A bit of a meccano style of adding accessories bothered me a bit at first, but ...then made so much sense to screw something here and there without the sense of defacing, and sooo many sources for add-ons it became addictive. I sold it at 30 months and 30,000 km because I thought that part of my life was over, but now I’m thinking another is inevitable (maybe a 4-door, though the “shortie” had a use in tight places and inclines). The SatNav was excellent onroad and off with a breadcrumb tracking, and the Uconnect better than our newer well-known brand sedans
jeep gal we agree.towed a camper trailer for for the first time and did nearly 2000 kms and loved it.the wrangler went like a dream but i agree about suspension we have to upgrade. we have had the jeep for 12 months and its my partners everyday car for work, its going on 23000 kms and running like a dream.
Carts my kite surfer everwhere
Great car, good on fuel and I can load my kite gear in the back. I do some country driving and it's very comfortable. The leg room is enough and while the engine is a little noisy it's pretty quiet in the car. I haven't got a tow bar so I can't comment on its towing ability.
Best purchase ive ever made!!
Purchased my Jeep Wrangler 1 year ago and I have only had 1 problem with it Leaky Roof which Jeep did replace the seals and it hasnt leaked since. Leaking roof wasnt too much of a concern as you can take the carpet out! So no big deal! Fantastic in the way of having a soft top roof which is Amazing and its so easy to use! I have upgraded the suspension to flexy coils! Great for towing! Also upgraded to new HID headlights as the standard lights where pretty dull. I love being able to do so many modifications to it! Making it unique to any other car... I could talk about my Jeep all day im so in love!
Car was falling apart
We brought a brand new jeep in 2011. The wrangler practically fell apart. We had it serviced at Adelaide city jeep where they zip tied the radiator back to the car. The roof started cracking for no reason. One of the rims cracked and we were informed that it could have given way at any time whilst driving. The hood straps were also faulty. We could only get warranty help after fighting tooth and nail and were called liars on a number of occasions and could never get onto a complaints line and were completely ignored via email. Jeep australia have the most disgusting customer service as well as adelaide city jeep. I recommend staying far away from jeeps especially the wrangler.we ended up selling it as it was too dangerous to keep.
Loved it - surprised by handling, quiet and fun
Rented one in Canada, as you do, and drove around for a week on the Banff National Park. Up and down the Rockies on the Icefields Parkway, down through the Kicking Horse Pass and some off the turf tracks. Needed to go slower off the turf. It was a 6 cylinder petrol 4 door. 11 L/100Km. Plenty of power. Enjoyed the sound system and the huge selection of stations on the Jeep entertainment system.
Felt safe with the roll bar. 4 adults and luggage a breeze. Overall it was fun and I was surprised how well it handled around really windy roads ...
Simple.....don't get 1!!
Customer service terrible. Constantly something wrong with it. Zero spare parts in the country apparently. Called advising of issue & exact part required, booked in to repair 1st available day which was 10days (surprisingly this was not the shock considering how often mines in for repair!!) shock came when they called to tell me what part they needed & it wasn't available for 2months! I told them what part to order when I booked it in!?!? Cost of repairs higher than any previous car I've owned. Wiring lume short, $1500 to trace & repair! What's...wrong with Pull out old 1, put new $25 lume in. Safe mode for simple issues that not effecting driving is really helpful when miles from anywhere!! Save your sanity & get a second hand land cruiser (or if a convertible is what you want, get a wheel barrow, far more useful!!)
Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited JK Diesel 2007
I've had this car for seven years and 120,000 miles. Its used and abused very hard, bouncing down unmade dirt tracks everyday. It still drives like new and the diesel engine is just loosening up.
Its an amazing car and, after saying that life is too short to have the same car twice, I WILL buy another.
Parts wear and some parts break and they aren't that cheap to repair.
I despair at some professional reviews I've read and even doubted whether they've even driven one. The car does what you would expect, its not a Porsche or BMW, its not even 'a car'. Its a Jeep and does what Jeeps do.
I have had overheating problems since new on any warm day going up any incline. Dealer refused to do anything about it. It caused 2 timing belt failures = 2 top end rebuilds taking 3 months to get basic parts. Had to fight to get it fixed both times and my Jeep had a full Jeep Dealer service history. I love my Jeep (when working) but don't trust it. I would not take it on a long trip far from a mechanic. I carry lots of spares since parts are seldom available in Australia and can take months to get. Jeep does not seem serious about customer service or support in Australia.
Love my Wrangle
Ok.. to all you people out there complaining "my jeep doesn't handle well onroad" ... You fools, it's a 4x4 !!!!! If u want full comfort buy a bloody car. I have a 2011 JK 2dr and I LOVE IT.. 70000 k's in 2 yrs and travelled all around and across the centre of Aust and not had one problem.. except now I have to change the standard suspension because it's shot .. but that's it. It handles brilliantly on and off road and is stock standard .. only addition is bullbar, snorkel and roof rack. Every model car has its lemons so stop complaining about ...stupid rubbish like comfort or fuel consumption ( I get 550ks on average to a tank) not bad for a little box on wheel.. My only gripe is... I go through too many windscreens! !!! Haha. Update. . 26/5/15 My little red 2011 Wrangler has now done 100150ks and still running strong. New Old Man Emu suspension is awesome. Jeeps downfall with the Wrangler is its crap suspension. . Sags way too quick for the weight and performance of a 4x4. I would not drive anything else. . I LOVE IT An absolute gem to drive, a definite head turner Absolute rubbish, rude and disgusting after care service (Nunnawadding Jeep)
2014. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited four door
Terrible service, terrible customer care...City Jeep tell you lies to get rid of you....
So far since the 20th of feb 2015 this will be the 3rd time I've taken my car back to fix a leak in the drivers side of the car.....I've been told the door was bent, the seals have been replaced twice, and now they want to do it again!!!!!how many times can this issue go on!!!! Well this is the last time...I'm tired of being lied to I paid enough for the car I expect better service than what I've received!!!!
DON'T BUY A JEEP----------HORRIBLE from start ...
Rubicon, best 4 door Convertable on the Market :)
I had my Jeep for 3 years only did 20,000km in it before I sold it due to health reasons, only short drive to work, but I took it offroad a fair bit, beach, mud and did some pretty serious rock hopping.
The first 10,000km while the motor was bedding in, it stalled a lot too easily and was a bit lacking in power, but afterwards it started to get really fun. Traction control took the fun out of Doughnuts on the beach though.
I got good fuel economy on the freeway and open road down to 10.1L/100km with cruise control but only 17L/100km around to...
Horrible service & constant problems. My 2012 2dr Wrangler has been at the dealers more than I can recall. On a new car they have replaced the heads and today the clutch system went. They tried saying I needed a new clutch but luckily I know the problem is caused by the clutch line failure NOT the clutch.
I'm so tired of borrowing cars to get to work, tired of poor service and tired of the anxiety with driving this really poor quality vehicle. The expensive and dishonest dealers (1 in Sydney & 2 in Brisbane) are just doing my head in.
Just don't do it to yourself
my yellow soft top 2000 wrangler has 293,000 km on the clock and hasn't missed a beat.Nothing goes wrong with it. I will never sell it. Best car ive ever owned. I love just looking at it.The body shape.
Jeep Wrangler. Awesome
It is the best feeling to own a Jeep Wrangler, I purchased A Gecko coloured Wrangler 4 door, one of the last sent to Australia in that colour. This colour has turned a lot of heads and had a lot of comments and strange looks. The jeep boasts a powerful engine which is responsive when needed. Off road performance was very surprising being very capable at getting up and down mountain trails. If you want a fun drive then this has to be it a couple of minutes you have the roof off and your driving with the sun shining on you and the wind blowing th...rough your hair. The 4 door unlimited has plenty of room in the back for trips away. The modifications for inside and out are absolutely endless, you will have no trouble finding the perfect addition to your Jeep (The Jeep dealerships are extremely expensive). The other good thing about driving the Jeep has to be the Jeep community, the facebook groups are full of great people that help or advise on everything Jeep are fantastic. The Jeep wave also give a great feeling of community unity. One of my greatest moments was driving when 5 kids all shouted in unison " He Bought A JEEP" with a blast of the horn and a wave I set off feeling good about buying a Jeep. Buy one you will love it. Reliable, powerful, Great off road performance, good onroad, fun to drive
