Very expensive program with only some tasty foods
Decided to try JC max results program for one month to help kickstart weight loss post baby. Food costs over $700 for a month plus you have to buy fruit, veg, bread and dairy to supplement each meal at additional cost. Some of the food is tasty to eat but i have a list of about 8 items already after a week and half that i would never want again (ie cheesy potato, meatballs, ham and cheese rissoto, pumpkin ravioli to name a few- not nice). The food is pretty much all vegetarian which i find bizarre for the huge price tag. Not sure where the protei...n is coming from when the food is mostly carbs and weird progressed additives. I also think the packet soups are another bizarre addition for the price that leave you hungry. Another issue i have is that you can only swap 5 menu items per week on an order. You should be able to at least swap one item per day so you can add foods that you actually want to eat.
Do not recommend it. RUN!
I started my Jenny Craig weight loss journey by signing up on line after seeing all the ads about how much weight you can lose.
After a number of days of placing my order, I had to call to make sure my order was in the system and thankfully the operator was able to contact my local centre and arrange for someone to call me back to confirm and organise delivery.
I received a call from my local Jenny Craig Centre a day after & was really impressed, we talked about what my weight goals were & after organising my first weeks order, I booked an ap...pointment to see them in the centre for my consult. At my first consult, everything was good looking at a way forward, talking about set backs I had in the first week and strategies moving forward and we booked in for the week after. The week after came and due to work commitments I was unable to attend and communicated that with the consultant & still arranged a chat and order placed.
It works, but is not sustainable
What is attractive with Jenny Craig is that you are given portions of food so you don’t have the hard work of counting calories - and you have accountability with your Coach. Also, the portioning also help you to learn what a correct amount of food is. But that’s where the benefits end. The frozen and pre packaged food is generally unhealthy and highly processed. It’s probably an improvement for some people but prior to starting Jenny Craig, my diet was extremely healthy (I just ate too much!) so it makes me feel bad that I’m not treating my bo...dy better by ingesting so many additives and over processed foods. Also, they provide no options for dairy intolerant or vegan, which is pretty behind the times. I don’t know if they do gluten free but I’d be surprised. Finally, the packaging is awful environmentally! I’m recycling everything but it’s over the top!
Great for the busy person who urgently need help.
I have been a life member of Jenny since the 80’s and have returned for the 4th time at age 61. I find it’s the only diet that I lose a substantial amount of weight. I like the visual picture it gives me of how much food we should actually be having each day. When you reach your goal weight it’s firmly fixed in your mind for the future.
As to cost, if you’re sticking strictly to it it’s not expensive at all. I’m spending less on food shopping now.
For the older person
I am 67 and 12 kilos over weight from a diet of lots of junk food. The great food is yummy and easy which suits me not having to do too much preparation etc. I still have lots of time to do other things. Home delivery works well. All in all am happy to be eating healthier and the weight is dropping easily. Its setting me up to be healthy as I gracefully grow older !
So expensive compared to other options & food quality is terrible :(
Liteneasy is so much better priced & better quality. The call I had was someone reading a script. Food is frozen & you still have to buy veg, fruit, bread, yoghurt & milk.
Full of crap
The weekly menu cost for Jenny Craig meals (3 meals and 1 snack) is $194 per week. That comes out to $28 per day for one person.
Breaking the food cost down monthly, it would cost $776 per month, just for the prepared Jenny Craig meals/snacks. Remember, this doesn’t include the cost of fresh fruits, veggies, and whole grains. If you want to add any more meat to your plan, there’s that extra cost as well.
If you purchase the six-month program, it would cost you around $4,755 for the program for 24 weeks. This includes the membership plus the J...enny Craig prepackaged food for the first half of your membership. This doesn’t include the fresh fruit, vegetables, and dairy that you must include in your diet and assumes that you’ll wean off the Jenny Craig prepared meals after 12 weeks. Jenny Craig you are a waste of money and I could do better than you, it is alot cheaper to buy fresh food and not your processed crud.
Works for me
My mum bought me lifetime membership in 1987, i was 16.
She must have known I'd be yo yo er.
I've been back 4 times and each time I've lost the weight I needed. I like the structure it provides and when going inside the stores the support I need.
The quality of the food has been worse this time around feels cheap and doing it online the councillor stopped checking in on me. But it's been 7 weeks since I started and I've lost 17kg, so it works.
In the past I've tried weight watchers, a few of the shake diets, CSRIO, all sorts of prescription m...edications and most recently keto, they all work to a point. But nothing gives me the simplicity of jenny Craig. Buying the food in two week batches gives me free delivery and with 10% membership discount my food costs around $160 a week for 1800 calorie menu. Which when compared to others is the cheapest out there.
Greedy Jenny Craig
I have been on the program previously and lost over 30kg and kept it off for several years. Only put it back on due to emotional reasons. I am now on the program again, and it is working, however, due to COVID we are having the food delivered. As of the next delivery, they are charging for delivery! This is disgraceful. We have no choice but to have food delivered and we pay premium prices for the food whilst still needing to purchase our own fruit, veg, bread and dairy. This makes it a very expensive program, so to charge us for delivery is OUTRAGEOUS. I am rethinking my position regarding this service.
I found in week one I was obsessing about the food - when could I eat next, what could I eat and did feel a bit hungry on occassions - but did lose 2.5kg in week one. Now just finishing week 2 and not so obsessed this week and still enjoying the food and lost another 1.1kg. So with 2 weeks under my belt and 3.6kg down - this is the best decision I have made in a long time when it comes to food. There has only been 1 meal that I haven't really enjoyed, but the rest have been fine. I have a long journey ahead, but feel now starting my 3rd wee...k, I am finally on the right track. Anyone thinking about doing it - I would say, give it a go. It isnt cheap, but it will be worth it for me to get back into a happy place with my weight. And being able to have the food delivered and remote coaching works with my lifestyle.
Stick to it
My view on Jenny Craig is it works. Now whether that be because the meals are small, and yes you need to fill up on other free items, but I can tell you it works.
But.. I don't like a lot of their meals. Smaller serves on some items because of the calorie content, so I would rather eat something that I know will sort of satisfy me like the Parma, fish and wedges, spaghetti and meatballs and a few others. The lunches need some improvements, their bland and boring so I usually stick to the pies or quiches. But again, I have always lost weigh w...
Expensive for what you actually get
I did Jenny Craig for not even a week before I thought “what a rip off!” For the money I’m paying can’t they even spring for a proper ready to heat pumpkin soup rather than a sachet cuppa soup. They call that providing a meal when I had to supply my own salad and piece of toast to go with it. I’m not into cooking so I just want it done for me. My consultant said it didn’t have to be complicated, just eat a cucumber. A whole cucumber!!! If I had the discipline and taste buds to just munch on a cucumber I wouldn’t have gotten into this mess in th...e first place!!! I like a few slices of cucumber in a salad but not a whole cucumber!!! I thought that was the most ridiculous suggestion. Lite and Easy is definitely the better, cheaper option and they provide every morsel that goes into your mouth so you don’t have to pay out extra money for fruit, salad, veggies, breads, dairy. It’s all there ready to eat, no preparation necessary. The only thing that I can’t stomach with Lite and Easy is the amount of packaging. It’s a lot of plastic so if you can get past that wastage you should be good to go. I’m only posting this review in hopes that Jenny Craig read it and pick up their game with some of the Sub standard menu items.
Not for the long run but worth a try.
Food was nice and tasty the first week although very little meat! After a week I felt a bit sick.
Preservatives outweighed the nutrition.
Under 15 grams of meat remained after straining sauce in a lunch menu (as example Subway serve 85g meat)
As a former chef, and a food scientist student, I Definitely can lose weight on this program because of the “Lack Of Food”; Not because the food is substantially healthy.
The egg ham muffin was floury substance in egg.
My consultant agreed that she too cannot stomach Jenny Craig food consumption.
Easy to stick to
Yes some of the foods are high in fats/carbs but it keeps me for eating the rubbish I used to, so I am losing weight, in a few weeks when I finish I will be able to get my own meals as I now have an idea of how easy it is to stick to my 1200 cals. a day. Thanks Jenny Craig.
Extremely disappointed felt ripped off
I joined Jenny Craig Chatswood with a friend about 2 years ago. My friend knew the lady at Chatswood there at the time and convinced us to join which we both did. I did not feel this person was in my friends best interest however I was their to support my friend to lose a little weight and joined.
Both going from a healthy mediterranean diet to a very expensive highly processed frozen foods and pastries not to mention the high salt.. I was blown away.? We ended up throwing out all the food in the bin.
I keep seeing all these people praising t...
