A lot of rinsing is required to work properly
Worked better then expected.
I'm actually surprised this worked, I was very skeptical about using this at first as I've tried Scott Cornwells one before which took absolutely no colour out of my hair . I'm naturally a dark blonde and have been dying my hair for years now all darker shades and it has so much build up I've been mahogany, and most shades of reds and purples but most recently dark brown which was More like a black and with one application of this it's down to like a golden brown it's still got the dark brown through it, it just looks like I have highlights now but I'm thinking another one or two applications of the remover all the dark hair should be gone well here's hoping :) So overall I'm just happy that it actually lightened my hair at all. :)
Omg. I was a little worried when using this. My hair has been dyed so much. I had blonde ombre ends , then they where dyed bright red . Then I got my whole head dyed dark red. Then I was over paying the salon to keep up woth red I started dying my own hair . I went to dark and lived with it for ages. Now I am here with fresh dye on after I sing the remover. Wow . I need up going from dark black red woth red ends to am even light coppery brown all over. Pretty even all over. I could have gotten away who not dying it. It went lighter than my natural colour but I guess that was doe to the ammonia on the red colour I had been using. I am Def going to use this again when I decide to change colour. Love it
I'm Asian, 60 and have grey hair. For the past year I have been dying it dark red...now I wanted a change and used the Max strength Jo Baz.
1. had an asthma attack...I'm ok took 6 puffs and antihistamine.
2. left the product on for 45 not 30 minutes...worried the product wouldn't work (after reading reviews)
3. now have ginger hair, and that wasn't my original colour....it's ok though, I covered it with a mid brown colour.
4. I can't use this product again, it was "killing" me
Worked better than expected!
I've never used a colour remover before so I was hesitant before beginning. I've done bleach baths and coloured my hair a lot so I know how my hair works. I'd coloured my hair a dark cherry colour but it didnt suit me. I didn't apply the whole amount of remover, and also didn't leave it on for the recommended 30 minutes. I estimate my whole removal process, from beginning to end, was 30 minutes. I just brought the colour down enough so I would be able to put a golden dark brown through afterwards. I let my hair dry and coloured it as normal. Wo...rked perfectly and I now have even hair colour. No bad smells lingered for me through or after the process completed. A tip- when you first see your orange hair after removal, don't stress. I dried mine and it was actually quite a nice dark blonde. Blonde doesn't suit my skin so I couldn't leave it as it was.
Leaves your hair stinking of eggs!! Rotten ones!
This is OK as far as stripping colour from your hair, I'm happy with the results. Although I had previously used a Scott Cornwall one (which I prefer). I thought I'd try this...
I stink!! And I did it days ago! How can I get rid of this awful smell???
Managed to get a lot of red and black out in first application!
I've been dyeing my naturally black hair variations of red and purple shades with store bought products over the last 15 or so years. Many have had bleach/ammonia properties so when I decided to go platinum blonde I knew I would 1) need to get rid of as much current colour as possible and 2) try to get my hair to a colour that wouldn't require more than one session of bleaching. I'd used this product years ago but it didn't lift colour as well as I'd hoped so I bought two boxes this time around. I have naturally thick hair so I thought one woul...dn't be enough but it certainly was. I ended up using both as a just in case measure. I left it in for a little longer than 30mins (45 in total I think). The smell is there but it isn't as unbearable as some have mentioned, and I did get a bit of tingling from contact with my skin, but otherwise the application stage was fine. As soon as I'd rinsed for the first few minutes I noticed the difference. The buffer certainly dries the hair out, but I went against the instructions and used a conditioner after the second buffer application and it didn't affect the colour removal. My hair is now a brassy colour which is what I'd expect it to be from the bleaches in the coloured dyes I've used. I might do another treatment in a few days to see if I can get rid of a bit of the brassy colour but after one application I'm absolutely chuffed :)
Great results! Just what I was after! :)
I am so happy I decided to use this product! I had been lightening my hair to be a light blonde colour for years (my hair is naturally a dark natural blonde colour). 3 months ago I decided to do something different and go for a dark brown colour. Loved it after the first time I coloured it dark brown, but as I was so light before, It started to fade lighter and went quite orange. So I picked up a dark brown dye and after I popped it on it was pretty much black! I didn't mind this and thought it would fade but it hardly did! So that's how I rese...arched and found this product at Priceline. So glad I did! It took my hair to a very nice medium brown colour and with a bit of purple shampoo, it got rid of any orange tones from the colour remover! Highly recommend!
Gets Rid Of Horrid Hair Dye In Less Than An Hour!
I had a "brilliant" idea of putting dark brown permanent dye over my lovely auburn hair - long story short it came out almost black and I looked like Marilyn Manson's twin with my pale skin and blue eyes.
After I finished cursing to myself, I popped down to Woolworths and bought this blessed stuff. It takes a bit of mucking around, lots of showering and thinking of suitable activities to keep a 3-year-old preoccupied while mummy has 3 showers but my hair is back to my natural colour with minimal cost and hardly any damage. I highly recommend this product for getting rid of crap dye jobs.
Very effective and does what it's supposed to.
I overdyed by light reddish brown hair and was very unhappy with almost black hair result which was far too harsh for me. My daughter told me about colour removal products so with an important interview coming up I decided to give it a go. I researched the various products in the UK which are all around the £12.00 range from national stores. However, while out shopping in a local cheapie bazaar, I bought this for £5.49. I checked again on line and found this was highly recommended so good buy! Gave the You Tube tutorial by an impressed bl...ogger a quick look and went for it! This does not have the rotten eggy smell that a lot of other products are supposed to have, it went on easily to my shoulder length hair and I then wrapped in cling wrap. I set the timer for 30 mins and checked the hairline which was looking good. Reset timer for another half hour then showered it all off. Used the Buffer which shampooed really well, hair was squeaky but rather matted so rinsed off and applied my usual spray VO5 leave in conditioner. After letting it dry naturally my hair is actually in better shape than before the disasterous dye. It is back to a lovely all over light blond/brown and in super condition. I would highly recommend this.
This stuff is brilliant, yes it takes an hour but $25 and 1 hour of my time is so much cheaper than a hairdresser would charge. My hair was originally Auburn but had gone bland, flat brown after years of intermittent dying, it has been blue black for around the last 8 months so I was worried that this product may not work as well as I was hopeing, it worked better, my hair has come out my original beautiful Auburn that I haven't seen since I was 14 years old. Could not be happier, highly recommended.
I have just used this stuff and couldn't be happier with the results! I was so worried it was going to be a disaster, even though I read the instructions 3 times and followed them to a tee and read hundreds of reviews.
I haven't seen my natural colour in almost 20 years and now that I have it back I'm wondering why I ever started dying it to begin with! It's such a lovely colour. I went from a horrid very dark/almost black brown, back to a lovely warm chestnut.
The smell isn't the nicest smell in the world but if these are the results, who cares?
I had bought a dye ready to recolour but I think I'll throw it in the bin and keep my natural colour :)
Cannot reccoment enough!
Only works on some dyes.
I paid a whopping $30 for one box (on my thick but only shoulder length hair).
I dyed my hair wine red December last year with semi-permanent dye, but in February started to dye it black again (roughly once every month) with both semi-permanent and permanent dyes.
Cons: Smells like the chemicals in a public toilet.
Takes over 50 minutes. Took me roughly 5 minutes to apply the dye. 30 to let it work it's magic. 5 to rinse out. 1 minute buffer, another 5 minute rinse. Repeat the buffer and rinse.
Makes hair very dry.
Pros: Removed all the black.
In the end, I was left with the semi-permanent red colour from last year. Still unsure whether or not I'll purchase again.
Awe full red hair GONE!
My hair had really red hair dye in it with brown and a blonde having been put over it to try an mask the horrid red it had been there for months with now really bad re growth . Nothing worked , but this product really did , it took all of the red out and left my hair a kind of straw colour that is very close to my natural hair. My hair felt very rough when I was washing the product out UNTIL I conditioned and then it was ok but I used an oil based heat protective product in my hair before I dried it as well . I had planned to re dye my hair af...ter I stripped it but I was happy with the overall colour and condition after using this product so I left it without a re dye . I payed $30 for this product and while I thought it was a bit expensive for a home treatment compared to dye I am happy I purchased it and used it. It really did do what it was supposed to do.
Oh My God I Cannot Believe It!!!
I never leave reviews for anything but I could not go past this one. I literally just finished my first round of the max strength product to get rid of colour build up (red, black, brown) that would've been there for years. I wish I had taken a before picture because it worked an absolute treat! I'm now so much closer to my natural ash blonde (bit brassy) but I'm planning on doing another two rounds of this then a semi permanent blonde so I'm not concerned. I'm shocked at how well this worked - my hair feels awesome, it lifted so much dark I ac...tually look like a strawberry blonde now. I followed the instructions exactly as it says & timed everything perfectly but my god so shocked. This product has saved me so much money & time sitting a salon chair - unbelievable!! UPDATE!! I did three rounds of this, the third time there wasn't so much difference but none the less amazing. I am FINALLY back to blonde after years of trying then being fed up at how slow the process is & dying it dark again. This is an absolute god send for hair obsessed people, it smells revolting but well worth it :)
Does what it says on the box!
I had box dyed black hair for 5+ years so was dubious about this but after 1 go it had stripped it out. I used 2 boxes as it was darker on the bottom than the top due to years of colour. my hair was quite dry after but I expected that after using a product like this! I used a semi colour after wards to even out the colour & it also softened the hair. It had a slight bad odour but nothing compared to other strippers. Would definitely recommend & would use again.
Did a good job
I went to the hairdresser and he dyed my hair close to black when i asked for a warm/red brown. I looked like death - so pale given that I never have my hair that dark (i am naturally deep brown)
So first up i tried Head n Shoulders with baking soda (was told it would lighten my hair) and it didn't. Then i was nervous but went into HairHouse Warehouse 2 days after the dye job and bought this product.
I followed the instructions to the letter - one downside is there is a lengthy rinse time (for long/thick hair there is all up about 20-30 mins ...
Good for a last resort
I made the mistake of going to a hairdresser (which I rarely do) and asked for a dye to match the lightened ends to my natural ash-blonde colour.
The result was that it came out as a dark red-brown, and the colour stuck.
Every time I tried to neutralize it to an ash-tone, whether DIY or at the salon again, it just ended up darker, with the same reddish tone.
The colour of my natural regrowth looked like a shock of gray compared to the much darker red-brown colour. I thought I was doomed to either having to maintain the cheap, glossy, awful...looking dye-job look or bleach, cut and start again. I tried this as a last resort and now my hair is light, warm-brown color. Which is still not matched to the natural, but a lot closer than what it was and much softer against the regrowth. It's not patchy, and it looks pretty good in natural light too, and it's gotten rid of the cheap-dye glossiness (not sure what that's called). I could probably leave it this way, but I will probably tone it with a very light green base to neutralize the warmth. This is a plus, because I was expecting it would look like crap until I dyed it again. After having used color removing products in the past, I was skeptical that this one wouldn't dry my hair to the consistency of straw and make it a bright, patchy pumpkin color. However, despite it still being drying, it's no where near as bad as I expected and definitely not close to what other products have done. I wouldn't recommended it on very dry or brittle hair though, and a coconut oil treatment is necessary.
Perfect solution without the salon price tag
Absolutely love this product. My hair has been continuously coloured for the last 15+ years and it had a lot of buildup of old colour and lighter bits from foils (in attempt to lighten) and balayage.
So without the budget to go to the salon for colour correction, I decided to give this ago after seeing it in big w & then reading reviews. I needed two packets for my long thick hair and I did the process twice in order to get a good, even result (I recommend this to ensure you get lots of product on every section of your hair). It is absolutely...
Fantastic, love it
Absolutely love this product. I have 15 years of colour buildup, mostly reds and purples. I decided to go back to my natural colour ( strawberry blonde) and picked up JoBax extra strength. I was pretty pessimistic as I've tried other brands which made my hair bright orange (think ronald macdonald). I was wrapped when I tried it and my hair was so much lighter. A little orange but i expected that. I did a second application yesterday and its even lighter. Definitely recommend this to anyone wanted to get rid of colour and colour buildup.
This was amazing, I had years of colour build up and it was almost black/red. I wanted my light ashy softer brown colour back by didn't want to spend 4 hours in a salon. $30.00 and 40 mins later it had stripped all the unwanted uneven colour out. I was blown away how mon damaging and even it looked! It was a overly brassy orange tone but the perfect even base for my light ash brown colour. Now I have a creamy softer brown with golden undertones. DONT Hesitate if you hate your colour! This WORKS
Great but my hair changed back :(
I loved this product but after a few days my hair went back to a dark colour. It was like I had never used the product. My hair was red/brown then when I used it, it went orange/blonde and I was happy but now it is dark brown again :(( i can't understand why. Was thinking of doing it again in about a week. But I'm also using a cleansing shampoo to lighten the colour. I was using the shampoo before I put this product in
This stuff is incredible! I have been dying my hair for 18 years and I have been every colour - red, purple, all shades of brown and eventually black which I have been doing for the past 4-5 years. I am growing my hair out and didn't want to cut it so I thought I would try a new colour. I read a lot of reviews on this product both positive and negative and I was a bit sceptical but thought I would give it a go anyway.
It was super easy to apply - just like a normal hair colour. The smell wasn't the best but it wasn't as bad as a lot of peopl...e said it would be. I followed the instructions which were simple and straight forward and my hair went from black to light brown in about 45 mins! My hair feels soft but maybe a little dry which will be fixed after another wash and condition. This product is amazing and super easy to use. I can't believe it only cost me $30 to completely change my hair colour. Highly recommended!!
I have dyed my hair so many times over the past 6 years, it has been fire engine red for the past 4 years. I thought removing my hair colour would be the most painful experience but then I came across this product. I was a bit sceptical and did a bit of googling. The product does smell but if you sit in a well ventilated room it is tolerable.
It worked really, really well. Removing all of the red tints. Though it does leave your hair with orange tones. Which is honestly bound to happen. You have to expect it will do that especially if your ha...
Did exactly what it was meant too.
I've dyed my hair for close on 35 years, starting with temp colours at 14 and moving to permanent when the first few grey hairs showed up about 20 years ago. At no time in that period have I not coloured my hair, usually using quite bright reds and purples, so the build up was substantial. Having now decided I want off the colouring merry go round I needed to reduce the jarring shock from the grey regrowth and this has done the job brilliantly. I was surprised at just how much it removed and lightened my hair without any bleach.
Although ...I will be doing one more treatment tommorrow to take it back a little more I'm more than happy with the results as they stand. Yes my hair is a bit brassy but I was expecting that and will fix it now with temp dyes until my own colour grows out. Follow the instructions carefully, especially rinsing out and keeping to the time frames advised (apparently it will only work for just over an hour and then the colour won't come out), and you really can't go wrong.
I coloured my naturally auburn hair with a rather crazy fire-engine red colour, which looked awesome for a week or so, but then it dawned on me that I'd just turned my hair bright red - permanently. I tried Head & Shoulders shampoo, frequent washing and pretty much everything else, but the colour wouldn't budge from my hair. I figured I was stuck with it until it grew out! Then I walked past this magical stuff in Priceline, and decided I had to just try it. I normally need two boxes of everything as my hair is waist-length and thick, but I purc...hased one box as I was a bit wary as to whether it would even work. This stuff definitely does smell, but so long as you have good ventilation in the room, it's not too bad. You do have to work fairly fast, as once mixed the product loses its strength. I was amazed to find that one box covered my hair completely, and I even had some left at the end. I waited thirty minutes for development and then rinsed for 10 minutes, and what surprised me the most was that the water ran clear from my hair - I was expecting to be standing in a pool of bright red water as the colour washed from my hair! I'm not entirely sure how this product works, but it manages to flush the colour from your hair without making the water run coloured. The directions do not say to use conditioner at the end, but I did as my hair was extremely dry by that point. Sure enough, I noticed straight away after stepping out of the shower that my hair had lost its bright red sheen; huzzah! I'd missed a few patches though by accident, so I did end up re-doing the process on those red areas. After the second attempt though, all of my hair was back to my natural auburn colour. Thanks so much JoBaz for making such a great product! ------------------------------------

Realise you made a mistake and want to get back to your normal shade without dishing out on salon prices? There is now an affordable DIY solution.
Permanent hair dyes work by expanding artificial dye molecules in the shaft of your hair so they can’t be washed out. JoBaz’s hair dye remover contains a formula that reverses this process and shrinks them so that they can be washed out.
The maximum strength edition works in 60 minutes and the normal strength product works in 30 minutes. Simply combine the activator (part A) and remover (part B), massage the product into your hair for the required time and then rinse off to remove the hair dye.
What reviewers thought:
Many reviews have claimed that the product worked very well for them, lifting previous dye jobs with ease.
A point of contention among the reviewers was the smell of the product which can be overpowering and unpleasant. Another key issue is that if the rinsing is not done properly and rigorously enough, the dye molecules will not be washed out and will expand again, therefore, putting the dye back in the hair.
