how many things have to go wrong!!
We ordered 2020 model Jurgen Lunagazer last December 2019 from Dave Bensons Caravans. We loved it cos it was light weight to tow so go for the larger van. However we preferred the 2019 skin. We also requested extras which we were willing to pay for. ETC outdoor speakers, 12vlt vans in bedroom, extra vlt and power sockets over the lounge area/ bedding area as they were only under lounge chair, as did not want under seat only. Also wanted lead light grab handle on outside of van as I have knee problems. Plus we paid for specially made annex. Whe...n we picked it up after a very long wait they were drilling a $20 disabled toilet handle on the outside of caravan, and nothing else had been done. We were told "We Forgot" we checked up on this a number of times while being made and spoke to the "manager" in Melbourne to explain what we required. We were also told we had to pay for Solar and reversing camera when 2020 model it came as part of the package. The caravan was filthy on top and underneath. it did not come on back of trailer. we believe it was towed from somewhere else as the workshop was closed due to foreclosure. At the end of our 2 half month trip to Darwin and back this is what was wrong with it.::Large Crack in laminex on kitchen wall over stove and bench, Electric element went after 2 uses. Doors had dropped on the hinges, cover lid for cooktop had fallen off, locks had broken off on drawers and cupboards and we couldn't close or lock for travel. Power point in Kitchen did not work. Bathroom door out of alignment and creaking whole trip. Major hole/crack in shower (used once), external grab handle burnt my hand in Darwin (major blisters), cupboards would not close unless you slammed them shut. Screws came out of bed so couldn't extend of shorten, screws fell out of extension prep table in kitchen so could never use and it banged all the time when you walked. Curtains all fell off the rails. screens on windows would not lock. Power points went after 1st week, one for the inverter shot out sparks, and wiring for solar panels done incorrectly so did not work for the whole trip (actually was depleting power storage not charging) Could not open toilet window as rail for awning now sits in front. External nuts bolts and joints rusted out in the first two weeks. This is not good enough BUT what can we do!!!!!!!! This was going to be our home for a year until we decided what we were going to do after I had a heart attack and forced retirement. Then our daughter (who is a single mum with a 5 yr old) had a stroke and COVID19 hit.

We couldn't be happier with it.
My wife and I bought the 2017 Limited Edition and to say that it has exceeded our expectations would be the understatement of the year. We completed the "Big Lap" in 2018, taking just over 10 months to do it and we racked up just on 19 thousand kilometres of trouble-free towing in the process. All up, we covered more than 30 thousand km and would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
The van is incredibly stable on the road and even while driving up the coastline of WA and being battered mercilessly by the ferocious westerly winds that WA is n...

An excellent product
We purchased our Lunagazer new in 2009, it is a j2401 and one of the early Jurgens vans sold in Australia. Initially we lived in the van for about 9 months while we built our current home. We have travelled with it extensively over the past 5 years. We live in the rural area outside Darwin so our journeys always involve significant miles, we are on our second set of tyres second battery and have serviced it regularly. Having said all that we have had zero issues with anything relating to build quality, so l have difficulty understanding some of...the quality issues other people have commented on. I think some people are born wingers and eternally miserable. We tow with a 6 cyl crewman which has proven to be an excellent match for the van re safety economy and handling. The Lunagazer is our third van over the past 50+ years and obviously the best but then again you can’t compare something made in the 60s to that made post 2000. Our experience with the j2401 has been all good. We always look forward to the next trip and a significant reason for that is the trouble free experience we have had over the past 11 years with the Jurgens.
Purchased in July 2009 for $55,000.00.
Very good for my needs.
Bought caravan 2012. Towed over 17000km in one trip.
Towed with Kia sorrento 2.2 and this is a great combination. Pleasure towing.
Had one insident because of my stupidity . Towing at hundred , trying to fetch something on backseat and leaving the road with both left wheels of caravan, with high drop off the tar , pulled steering wheel back , braked, realised mistake let feet off brake . All while swinging to both sides and ... nothing - car and caravan stabelised.
All over best caravan little things here and there. Nothing worth crying a...
3yr warranty ! HMMMM
Wouldn't go near the Albury dealer again. We liked the van, but, "I would say lots of the equipment used is poor quality". Lots of problems just like Gazza which halted several holidays, but the best was the poor brakes and alko suspension all crook and had to be reset in the factory (tow truck). Air cond basic at best (replaced by the air cond mob but not much better ). Shower floor seal let go. Cupboard door edge strips coming off, gas leak from faulty change over switch, just goes on and on but its gone now and good riddance.
* fridge rocker switch connection faulty crip connection not done correctly
* ESC faulty had to replace the whole unit.
* draw under fridge collapsed no support rear runners
* power supply faulty had to rewire ( lucky Im sparky)
* shelf above table very week required additional strengthening
* floor spongy
* rangehood lights failed
* cook top thermocouple failed hard to ignite
* bed pull our broke
* stickers faded and blistered ...
response to warranty issues
Our Luna experienced a range of problems since new, eventually we were able to contact Jurgens direct to discuss our anxiety and frustration with the van.
From the outset our encounter with Jurgens staff was a breath of fresh air. We were treated with care,respect and professionalism. We were assured that all problems would be addressed.
Our first contact was Laura, a true professional, who conducted the restoration of our van to its complete functionality. Laura delegated the practical processes to Shannon who was excellent in his diagnosis ...

Our first experience started with a Skamper Kamper Dingo but we soon decided after a number of trips that camper trailers are not for us especially poorly designed and built campers like the dingo. Now burnt from that experience we engaged in a thorough process of seeking out the right caravan for us to enjoy. A close South African friend first alerted me to the Jurgen's caravans but I wasn't convinced and proceeded to seek out other vans. Over a 4 month period and visiting many showrooms and shows we couldn't find one that suited us and also i...mportantly had good reliability in our price range to match. Being someone who has spent 35 years in the electrical and mechanical engineering didn't help. This led me back to Jurgen's caravans and by chance we found the van we were looking for and it was the Lunagazer J2403. The dealer at Mount Gambier was first class and spent nearly 3 hours handing over the caravan to us which included their technician driving our car with the van attached for a test drive. Now after 4 months, 4043kms, 27 nights and even with some dirt road action the Lunagazer J2403 has performed faultlessly. I'm impressed with the engineering and thoughtful layout of the Lungazer and find that it excellent value for money. My only gripe would be the tyres. I would have preferred a known brand like Bridgestone than the Chinese tyres on the van at the moment. My South African friend couldn't wait to go away with us! BTW he has also had a faultless run with his van. Would I recommend Jurgen's? You better believe it! 3 year update. Despite the turmoil Jurgens has been going through our caravan has been over all good. The only warranty claims we have ever made have been the door handles breaking. There have been some easy fixes, one however was a little more involved and that was the battery charger and electrical wiring. I went on to upgrade the wiring, adding an Anderson plug for the fridge and battery charger to function correctly. 27000kms in 3 years and all in all the caravan has been good. Finally, a word of advice. I would treat with a measure of suspicion some of the reviews posted here and on social media from people with about 20 issues with their vans. There are people who buy caravans and use them unwisely and then go on to complain like hell because they weren't treated like the prince of Wales when things went wrong. Caravans do have issues that's life but how you treat your van is another issue all together.

We just love, love love our Lunagazer
We had a Coromal before this. This is the first van we have had with an ensuite. We have the 2406 Model with the single beds & find the single beds plus the fold up table give heaps of room inside. Very easy van to tow behind our Ford Territory & the ESC gives good sway control on the road. We lost our shower hatch & it was replaced with a better brand.....that is the only thing that has gone wrong since we bought it brand new in 2016 We are going to upgrade to a 2019 model when it is released & our daughter is going to buy this one from us.
We have owned two Jurgens vans over a nine year period. We have toured most of Australia (much of it twice) with these vans and can say, unequivocally, that they have been the most comfortable, trouble-free vans that we have ever owned. One thing is for sure, our next van will also be a Jurgens.
2017 Jurgens Lunagazer caravan
Very disappointed with our 2017 Lunagazer. Purchased Brand new after 8 months of having the van and 6 months of it waiting on being repaired under warranty with no satisfaction. We Traveled to the Jurgens Melbourne Factory without satisfaction from any Jurgens dealers the factory looked at our caravan gave us 3 options.
1 fix van with no time given to us on how long it would take as parts had to come from South Africa.
2. Give us a second hand van from one of there dealers no van was available.
3 Jurgens to buy back our caravan at second han...
Love this Van
We had Jurgens Sungazer for 4 yrs and found it to be a super little van. We have now upsized to the bigger Jurgens Lunagazer. It is the same well built, strong yet light caravan. The internal layout is very user friendly, great ensuite with separate shower and toilet, ample storage space, big windows and good bench space. We had our first holiday where the weather turned dreadful. We had to tow the van in extremely strong winds, sleety rain, hail, sheets of water spraying up from trucks passing on a pretty bumpy road. We were extremely impressed with the way the van towed despite the adverse conditions. This van is highly recommended.
Questions & Answers
Hi I have just purchased a Jergen lunagazer j2401 and I have a 2007 Toyota Hilux 4X4, 4ltr petrol Twin cab max tow weght is 2250kgs is it legat to tow the van with my current vehicle.Regards Frank
All good. The J 2401 has a max loading of 2100 (some 2000kgs) Their tare is about 1700 kgs give or take. The detail for all loadings is found on a plate just to the right and above the gas bottles in the front boot. We have a J2401 also. Purchased it new in 09 and use a 6 cyl Holden Crewman as the tow vehicle. The crewman has a 2100 kg limit and has handled the van without any problems for the 50000 klms we have travelled with it. You should have no problems with the Hilux. Fully loaded the van generally weighs in at about 2000 kgs. I have put ours over a weigh bridge twice and that seems to be about the figure. So - you should have no issues. Cheers David
