Kambrook KT50 / KT60

Terrible Toaster – Am about to return this good-looking but ultimately useless toaster. It 'cooks' one side of the toast in that 'cook' means 'burns around edges'. Peering inside not all the elements seem to light up consistently. Utter disappointment - returning today for refund, life's too short to try another one :(
Kambrook toaster – I purchased this toaster to use in my new caravan, and have found it to be quite ok, it cooks my toast just nicely, and Ive never had any of my toast burnt, or undercooked, I was very surprised to purchase this toaster for such a low price, because it had a small scratch on it (which didn't worry me) it still works ok.
You get what you pay for – I bought this 4-slice toaster at the end of January. From day one it has never cooked the toast evenly. Burns around the edges and the rest is not toasted. The electronic browning control is not callibrated properly. Even on the "2" setting everything burns around the edges. If you dare to put a couple of crumpets and Burgen bread into the slots -… Read more
they're too heavy for the toaster to switch off and lift the toast. Forget about using the CANCEL button too. It only occasionally works. It just doesn't switch off and then you have to force the lift lever up to get the toast out.
Broke down within warranty - worked - broke down – Bought the toaster in November 2014. Have been using the toaster everyday until one day it set the safety switch off. Found the receipt and contacted the retailer who requested to bring the toaster back for a replacement. Upon returning the toaster the retailer tested it and found it working. I continued using it until 28 February 2016 when it triggered the safety switch again. Just outside of the warranty period. Not happy Ivan

Good even toasting but slow – Good value for money. It toasts evenly but rather slowly. I have had this for a few weeks and use it daily for our morning toast and so far so good. Seems OK for 1, 2 or 4 slices. Better than some more expensive models I have previously used. Would recommend this toaster as OK but not exceptional.
Sooo disappointing!! – Soo disappointed with this out first 4 slice toaster, it takes so long to toast even in the highest setting and then the toast is soo hard because it's took so long. Also most of the elements don't light up and it's only approx 3 mths old and been used about 10 times.

Can't toast one piece of bread!! – My husband purchased this toaster after reading Choice magazine. When toasting 2 pieces of bread in one slot it works well. However, in the morning I often only have one piece of toast and it always burns on one edge. I have fiddled with the settings to no avail. Really disappointed.

Great value for money – The model I purchased was the KT260. Picked it up for $40 from Bing Lee. Does a great job; nothing fancy, just the functions you need: reheat and defrost. I can't understand why anyone would pay more than $50 for a toaster. I had been persevering with a Sunbeam 4 slice toaster - one minute the toast was perfect, the next it was burnt, so I ditched it in favour of the Kambrook. Good decision.
Junk! – This is without doubt, the most useless toaster I have ever owned. It never toasts consistently. It never browns toast, just drys it out. And just because setting no 2 actually did toast yesterday doesn't mean it will today (using exactly the same loaf of bread). The only thing I will give it, is that it won't die so I can go and buy another one!!! Save your money and buy something else.

It's good! – I like this little toaster. It toasts well, is cheap and doesn't try to have too many ridiculous features which don't work. Toast and small buns go in and out easily. It's unobtrusive and just gets along with the job, like a good toaster should. Not bad looking either, but certainly not piece of art. The white is a good white for fitting into most kitchens. 4 stars overall but probably worth 5 given the price.
So frustrating – I bought this toaster a few days ago to replace a cheap Abode one from BigW that finally wouldn't stay down. First two slices of bread I toasted on setting 4 - both stiff and hard and overcooked. Then one slice on 3 - burnt one side. I am yet to try on lower settings as I plan to take it back to KMart. Design fault apart from the above is that… Read more
it is hard to see the little bump on the dial to have the setting between 1 and 6.
UPDATE 21 April 2015
I ended up keeping it. To make it easier for me to read the dial, I put a drop of white-out on the little bump on the dial.
I also keep the setting at 2 and it seems to work OK
Cheap but not nasty – Bought this for $19 to replace another broken down toaster. Pleasantly surprised , quite powerful and fast. very happy with my purchase. Great bargain/
so far so good – Only had it for one month but so far it toasts very nicely with no problems. It only cost $19. I would rather pay more for something that I know will last for years and years but they don't sell those sorts of products in Australia any more. So if this lasts for the same length of time as my previous much more expensive toasters - about 2 years - then I'll be satisfied. Show 4 replies

Easy and Cheap – I am a student living out of home so when it comes to cheap way of living I am the master at it. I was hesitant in buying this toaster but tossed up that it had 12 months warranty and so it was worth to pay for it, even if it lasted only a year. I have had it for over 12 months now and it is fantastic. I live with 5 other people and we use it… Read more
everyday and there has been no signs of wear or damage yet. It is small so easy to put away and easy to clean. If you are looking for a basic toaster this is the one to go to. I have never used the other functions such as "reheat" and the "defrost" so I can't comment on that. But without fail this toaster has always perfectly brown my toast during my stressful semesters. I don't think I could of got through my uni years without it. My good old trusty toaster. Inexpensive, small, easy to clean
cute and affordable – We'd been hunting for a small toaster that wouldn't take up too much benchspace, which made this neat little model ideal. We've had it about a month now, and it was worth the risk of un-browned toast, which some other reviews have mentioned. It hasn't been a problem in our case. Also appreciate the extra lift function so I don't grapple with… Read more · 1
locked down toast first thing in the morning! takes up little benchspace. I like the extra lift. nothing.. but since Kambrook is monitoring this site, I'd suggest designing taller models in future if that's possible - one that still takes in longer pieces of bread but occupies the same bench space perhaps?
Great value – We've been using the long-slot model for a 10 months -- and it's doing a good job. Previously we've had expensive so-called quality products that either didn't toast well or broke down. Our $160 Breville got binned after 2 years when it nearly set the kitchen on fire and it didn't toast all that evenly anyway. I've had four $80+ toasters and… Read more
none toasted sufficiently evenly to please me (quite unevenly, actually).
Comments on Whirlpool suggested the el-cheapo Kambrook did just as good a job as the expensive toasters -- and so it has proved. It toasts acceptably evenly, doesn't take too long, and is easy to clean. It hasn't got fancy controls and lights -- and I don't miss them. It still looks in good nick whereas the Breville looked shabby after 12 months. If it conks out after a couple of years no big deal. I'll just go out and buy another. It's not worth spending four times as much to get a product that, in my experience, is only 20% better. Cheap, reliable, does the job
Stopped working after six months – After our last four slice toaster served us faithfully for 15 years I bought the inexpensive Kambrook 4 slice. It didn't even last six months and suddenly the lever wouldn't stay down. Also the toasting level control is too loose and gets moved constantly burning your toast. I had to sticky tape it down so it wouldn't move. Has put me off Kambrook products in the future. Broke within six months, control was too loose and got changed

Inexpensive with useful features - great value – I am sold on the simple but very effective features on this toaster, which when combined with its low price makes it an excellent purchase. - Extra wide slots that allow a great variety of breads to be toasted. The bread is secured as the lever is depressed so that it is held vertically when being toasted. - Extra lift - a big winner for me… Read more · 2
allowing easy access to smaller pieces of bread.
- Very easy to access and clean crumb tray.
- Cancel button - handy to have if you've mistakenly set the temperature dial too high
- Temperature dial with indented marker - can both see and 'feel' where the temperature dial is set to.
This is the second one of these that I have purchased. The first gave me great service for many years... 10 years plus I think... until it finally stopped working, and yet it is one of the least expensive appliances I have ever purchased. Reliable, inexpensive, practical.
When a Toaster is not a toaster – Having been disappointed with a Sunbeam not browning bread, bought a Kambrook, exactly the same does not brown the inside of the bread only the outside. Usually only buy sourdough bread and cut ourselves, does not brown. The size of the slots is good, however only the crust and outside brown.? Colour, wide slots Does not brown bread
I'm confused as of what you mean by " does not brown the inside of the bread only the outside". Do… Read more
Might as well buy a cheap toaster – Always have bought $2 toasters from crazy clarks etc. and got sick of replacing them every year so i did alot of research and found this one was the best value for money. AS with the others here, it would either burn the toast, or not do enough in the first go. And today it fizzed out and tripped the safety meter in the house with only 11 months of minimal usage. Waste of $30. Im going back to my $10 toasters thanks.........
Shows promise but overall frustrating – KT-60: Had it about 2 years. Always seemed to be fiddling with it to get toast browned right - ended up using a lower setting and just accepting you had to push it down for 2 goes! Slimline body meant it lived at the back of the kitchen bench without getting in the way. Browning was consistent for the 2 sides, but as others have commented, it's… Read more
either underdone or overdone. Anyway, it finally fizzed out in the middle of the middle element and put us out of our misery - we picked up a Ronson RT400 on special at Target to try ($34) - will post about that one once we've used it awhile and got the hang of it (it does annoy me when you see a review that says "perfect every time", and they do not say how long they have had the product, nor how often they use it - you wonder if they are legit??) Very wide slot on the KT60 - will take a frozen leb bread as long as you use it on (say) 2 and turn it 'round and push it down again TERRIBLE browning control!! Wonder why we put up with it!
Any latest reviews of Ronson RT400? Target has the sale again this week :)
Beware - Too Small for Wide Loaves – After my Kambrook KT100 packed in after a lot of use, I bought a KT50 Essentials 2 slice toaster from BIG W for $19 (August 2012). The toasting slots to the KT50 are 13cm wide, 9mm less than the KT100. I bake my own bread and my slices measure up to 13cm wide and so the slices press up hard against the insides. My recommendation would be to check… Read more
the size of your bread before buying this toaster. If you consume wider loaves don't buy it, however it's fine for standard sized commercial bread. Toast cooks evenly on both sides. The defrost and reheat functions are very handy. The toasting slots are on the small side, too small for wider loaves.

perfect even toast every time! – a beautiful toaster - perfect even toast every time. Has a defrost setting for using frozen bread and a cancel button to stop toasting process. Takes nice thick slices too!
OK – Generally happy with the product. I wanted something simple and easy to use, I didn't need too many functions and this fit the bill perfectly. Not sure if I would buy it again. Compact size, minimalist exterior, functional crumb tray. It lasted approx. 18months. At first, it browned toast perfectly but after 12months you had to adjust the heat setting regularly as it became temperamental.
For $31 I didn't expect it to be great...but – It lasted 13 months...yep, 4 weeks after the warranty expired, to the day... It never worked as well as it should have; one side always toasted significantly more than the other & the difference between the settings was odd..."1" basically gave me stale bread that was a little warm. "2" gave me very pale toast. "3" gave me charcoal...I never… Read more
tried 4 or 5 because I was too scared that I would start some crazy thermo-nuclear reaction & destroy the planet!
I eventually figured out that, with the uneven cooking & the bizarre settings, if I put the bread in on setting "1" until it popped then flip it over & go again then I got what I wanted! It was cheap for a 4 slice toaster. Uneven toasting, choice between pale or black toast...nothing in between!
Good – Bought this toaster after the previous Sunbeam toaster flamed out - though it was about 15 years old and had had a lot of use. Research on the net suggested that Kambrook KT50/KT60 toasters would be a good buy. Eventually found the KT60( 4 slice) on special at Good Guys for $36.95! Everything has worked well, browns well and evenly, makes great… Read more
toast from frozen bread via defrost setting, proper crumpet cooker, fits any size toast (we often slice our own bread). Simple streamlined styling, easy to use and easy to clean. Simple to use, inexpensive and toasts well Nothing really, has functioned properly
piece of junk – at first this cheap toaster worked well. after 2 months it wouldnt pop up intime, i switched the power off and pressed the lever down and up several times just to see if it was sticking, this worked for about a week then same thing happened. would not recomend this toaster even to my ex wife cheap gave up the ghost after couple of months
Bad – This toaster looks good and is easy to use and clean, but it doesn't toast evenly. It doesnt toast single slices well at all. I wouldn't reccomend this toaster. Doesn't take up much space, not too obtrusive. Doesn't toast evenly. Heat setting controls need to be reset depending on number of pieces of toast. Either burns part of the toast or leaves one side almost uncooked.
Good – This toaster has a number of functions for an average priced toaster. It has a cancel , reheat and defrost options that all work well. The removable crumb tray is a big plus. Has an extra lift lever as well. I bought this toaster last week. My daughter and I thrilled with it, as it makes beautiful brown toast that toasts all over. So far I have had no problems with this toaster.
Worth the money – Having suffered a Breville 2 slice for too long I bought a cheapie 2 slice from a El Cheapo store.. Took it back.. Useless.. So, after reading around I came across a Choice review that stated that the budget priced Kambrook performed as well as the dearer ones and in some cases a lot better. That's a change, I thought.. So I went to the Good… Read more
Guys ( in case it turned out to be a dud..they are sympathetic.. must see a lot of poor products amongst the Good Stuff)
As we make our own Bread (yeah.. Panasonic..see review elsewhere here ) the slices are longer than some and best used a little thicker.. So I opted for the 4 slice model so I could lay the slices sideways ( 2 at a time).
We have never seemed to had a toaster that faithfully toasted both sides, evenly, at the same degree, every time, .. until now!
It really does..
As our own bread is a bit light at the top this bit goes black while the rest ( 95%) of the slice, toasts to a uniform brown..every time.
I do not expect others who use supermarket bread to have this side effect. It only seems to do it to brown bread. We just remove the small portion.
You need to check the heat control every time before use if you move the toaster around a lot, I do. The knob is right under the lift handle and can easily be knocked to a burn position if not noticed. A firmer action knob, or relocation would be desirable, but not likely. Cheap, reliable, uniform toasting, large wide slots. Good ol' kitchen white.. No finger marks! Not wrong, just tricky. Temp knob too easily moved to high while moving the toaster.
OK – A toaster is a toaster, sure it doesn't have a fancy crumpet setting but it does the job! I haven't had any problems and it seems to be a hardy electrical appliance It is cheap, has a cancel, reheat and defrost function that is handy (that I didn't think would come with a cheap toaster) Nothing wrong with it so far :) Would be perfect if it was stainless steel but that's just a superficial thing
Excellent – A very good model. Browns toast well and very efficient for its size and priced under $30. In use for a bit more than a months and hard to find fault with it. Cheap, small, settings easy to read, thermostat knob turns from left to right. Browns toast very well at a lower setting and the lever does not need to be pushed down hard. Crumb tray is removed by pulling it out at the front rather than at the back of the toaster.
