Budget Priced DVD Player
The Laser HD0020 5.1 Channel DVD player is quite noisy when starting to play DVD's, However the noise will eventually cease a few minutes of playback, But occurs repeatedly from time to time.
The video quality is not as good as other brands because they lack Upscaling of video resolution to 1080HD quality.
The remote controls are also very poorly designed with very small buttons and minscule print that is extremely hard to read unless you have very good eyesight.
Laser DVD players used to be decent good reliable DVD players but the quality of their products has seriously declined with the recent models. They are now not worth buying.
LASER DVD HD0020 DVD PLAYER
Purchased for $A49.50 on Ebay from K.G.Electronic Pty Ltd April 2015.
I couldn’t be happier with this unit, certainly cheap and cheerful and does everything I want from an All Region DVD player, no lockup problems.
Positive attributes (PROS):
1. The DVD player is not region locked as are all “name brands” these days, I have tested it with All region, exclusive region 4, exclusive region 1, and exclusive region 2 DVD’s without any problems so I presume the same will apply for region 3,5&6 DVD’s but I don’t have any of these.
It does all you'd expect
Picked this up at Big W for $48... and couldn't be happier! Plays DVD's, many formats of video via USB, and has HDMI and 5.1 support. I can't imagine what other features would be required?! It may not look slick and smooth, but it could be a jumble of wires in a matchbox for all I care as long as it does what I paid for!
Only problem was that the default sound setting was 5.1, so plugging in my old stereo composite cable had me confused briefly until I found the Audio Setup menu.
cheap, functional, usb support
Default sound setting was 5.1
Questions & Answers
I tried playing my DVD, and it is stuck on the time 53:53. But it never had an issue before. It just won't play, beyond seeing the time on the DVD player, and the Laser DVD logo on the tv. Any advice?
It's over 3 months old.
Why does the Brand New DVD player make such a loud noise while playing a DVD ? The DVD was re inserted several times and the disc plays , but this horrible grinding mechanical noise suggest something is wrong
I had the exact same issue with the Laser HD0020 DVD Player.
Mine was returned to the store for and they replaced with a new one, the replacement had exactly the same issue, the second one was also returned and was replaced yet again.
To my astonishment the 3rd DVD player had exactly the same issue.
It seems clear the Laser DVD players are made from cheap inferior components and the DVD player overall design is bad, especially in regards to the remote control which has tiny buttons which are very hard to read unless you are blessed with 20/20 near perfect vision.
My best advice is to return the DVD player and insist upon a full refund of the purchase price.
