Plumbed fridge is more costly

Holy cow, I love this fridge
This is my first fridge with a water dispenser, and I freaking love it! Water/ ice dispenser has changed my life, and I now drink a lot more water and far less sugar garbage because it's icy, and it's right there. We got the non plumbed version because I don't have water in that side of the kitchen and who can be bothered with plumbers. But what really drew me to this was the internal design and dimensions.
I went with a side by side because the freezer on top-mounted fridges is always too small, modern bottom-mounted freezers are too big and...mostly drawers, rather than doors which you inevitably have to dig through, and French door fridges make an irritating noise when you open them. The shelves in the door of the LG are deep and can store a lot of stuff, which makes them handy. It also makes the shelves in the fridge slightly shallower and easier to reach the back. This is hands down the best designed side by side I looked at. In terms of performance, it seems to work really well, temperature can be set for both fridge and freezer, so if you like your icecream slightly softer, you can easily turn the temperature on the freezer up a bit without affecting your fridge. It has also never frozen the stuff at the back of the fridge trying to keep the front cold, so temperature seems to be pretty even across all the compartments in the fridge. And since I bought this my electricity bill has actually gone down - granted my last fridge was old, but it was also half the size. My only real criticism is that you can't really adjust the shelf spacing. We've had to end up storing the vodka in the fridge because there aren't any shelves in the freezer big enough to stand it up, and it decided to leak lying down. It's a tough life. As other reviewers mentioned, it does make some noise when making ice or dispensing water, which initially was loud enough to scare the cats. But cats are idiots and they got used to it and so have I, so that isn't really an issue now I've had it for about 6 months. And apart from the water pump, the fridge itself is whisper quiet, so I could care less about 3 seconds of pump noise in the middle of a Netflix binge when I don't have the semi-constant compressor noise in the background. It's the best fridge I've ever owned.

Excellent purchase. The led lights inside are are real winner. Just an fyi you'll need about 20-30cm wider than product for doors to open. I've got 110 cm and the freezer door really can't open wide but it's no big deal. Anyone complaining about the ice maker is insane. Of course it makes a noise extremely periodically. It's an ice maker. Unless you are sleeping under it it's irrelevant. If you're deciding between ice and no ice, this non plumbed version is incredible. We love it.

Everything we needed
This is our second LG fridge and after one months experience, the new fridge is working well. I note that some reviews indicate the ice maker/dispenser is loud, but from my observational experience it is tolerable and seems no worse than other brands I have used in the past.

Our recent purchase of the LG L668 was after much research. As we previously had a side by side we looked for a similar fridge. Having made the purchase I am happy to report that the fridge is meeting all our requirements. After switching on we had to wait 24 hours before it was at peak performance but after that - no problems. Ice maker is great. The freezer section works well as does the fridge section. Minor comment is that the fridge door must open fully in order to remove the baskets. Fridge is quiet in running. Doors are a bit different as they don't have 'handles' but you quickly get used to the 'channels' in the door when opening and closing. Very happy to recommend this to other purchasers.

An ice making fridge was always on my bucket list and when our 27 year old fridge became increasingly noisier every night until we couldn’t hear each other, we decided it was time. I did a bit of research and based on lots of excellent reviews and the price point, decided on the LG. We had to get non plumbed as it would have been out of our budget to get it plumbed in. Didn’t get off to a great start as after installation the water & ice didn’t work. A call to LG the day after and they gave me the number of a local plumber who came quickly and ...discovered it was just a loose wire and reconnected it at no cost to us. We have been super pleased with it ever since and as a family have never drunk so much water or enjoyed ice on tap. I’m enjoying my G&T’s on ice as well as scotch and drys. The fridge looks great, is super quiet and has plenty of storage for our family of 4. I love the lighting strips inside the fridge. Not sure that it will last out 27 years like my old fridge but that’s just a sign of the times.

Nothing but problems
Had the fridge for 20 months. The first problem happened about 4 days after the first anniversary. I must admit LG service on this occasion looked after me and the repairs were organised quickly. Worrying though that it was a computer panel issue and was replaced in 5 minutes. 3 weeks ago the fridge showed a fault on the electronic panel and after providing all the paperwork again, receipt, serial number etc I am still waiting. It took them 10 days to organise a repairer. The repairer said the fridge is irreparable as the fault lies in the elec...tronics within the frame. Now I am waiting with their off shore call centre who cannot give me a date on when I will receive a replacement. We have 3 small children and we have been living with an esky as our main food storage and shopping daily. The fact they cannot give me a date when I will receive a replacement for their faulty product is what upsets me the most. I would not recommend buying an LG fridge.

While I say it is a great fridge one thing knarks me about the exposed piping here in Northern Qld, warms the water, so if you just want a quick (without ice) cold drink, it is not going to happen. The reason for purchasing a non plumbed system.
Otherwise all is good, runs quietly as does the water pump and ice maker
It does maintain a consistent and reliable temperature in all compartments.
The (doors) downward hand grip (no handles) is somewhat difficult to get used too.
Watch out for the crushed ice spilling onto the floor - need a large bowl to catch the ice to prevent this.

So stylish and roomy, Temperature is consistent, so much room in the door of the fridge for all containers soft drink, juice and milk 2 lts no worries. Quite and the fresh water / ice / crushed ice is so wonderful especial during summer! Not to expensive for the amount of room inside.

Absolutely brilliant fridge. Cannot fault it. Had it 12 months allready and has not had any issues. Everything is keeping cold and frozen. And the crispers are keeping things longer than ever before. Best fridge I have ever owned.

668 litres, non plumbed ice and water dispenser, keeps great even temperature and has great sized compartments.
It looks great in our upgraded kitchen and matches all our other stainless steel appliances.

Fault unit broke within 10 months
I purchased a new fridge from LG hoping it would be lifetime investment. My dream only lasted 11 months. Notices it started making noise, made a first call to LG on the 2nd of May. Tech came to check confirming unit is faulty needed replacement. After several phone calls LG still doesn’t confirm if they are going to give me a new fridge or credit. Terrible customer service. Promised to call back 5 times no response. I am still asking them to give an answer and today is 22nd May. Please do not ever buy lg products. Their customer service sucks. Their incompetence has forced me to go on social media to write a review

Smart design, wonderful fridge
I always wanted to have a side-by-side fridge with Ice & Water Dispenser and without the hassle of connecting it to the water tap, etc. Especially, when you are renting you don't have much choice of having the water supply provided.
I was searching for the best option that accommodates our need in terms of the space, design, being quiet and features. I had almost decided to buy a side-by-side fridge without water dispenser as most need to have water tap provisioned. When I came across this model I already knew this is the one. I went to the st...ore, investigated the fridge and bought it straight. In terms of space, it is one of the most spacious of its kind. The non-plumbed water tank is the best and the water tank capacity is good enough. It is also quiet and doesn't make noise during nights. The only minor downside for me is the door handles which is hard to grab/slippery sometimes for a tall person. Overall, very happy with the purchase, especially I got it at a good deal during black Friday sale (the price includes delivery)! :)

Questions & Answers
Boy, I wish I had read these reviws before I purchased. We decided to go with the non-plumbed version as we weren't sure if we had plumbing available for the fridge. But the pump noise is unbearable...... it is waking us at all hours.
Can you please let me know plumbed version has a quiter pump?
Did you think to ring them for answers?
Hi received our new fridge yesterday, removed the ice dispenser (not needed) and fitted extra shelf.
Tried the cold water dispenser this morning and the water is not cold, do I need to refit the ice Dispenser?

Winner of the 2018 ProductReview Award, the LG 668L features two fridges to choose from: plumbed and non-plumbed, depending on your budget and household needs. This LG Side by Side range offers similar features to other Side by Side ranges by LG, such as the LG 668L Side by Side series.
- Available in two options: plumbed and non-plumbed. Plumbed means the fridge needs to be connected to the water line by a plumber, and non-plumbed doesn’t need to be installed by a plumber, as the water is dispensed from a tank.
- Tempered glass shelves, which are stronger and more durable than ordinary glass
- Includes various compartments such as door baskets, drawers, and an egg box to keep food neat and organised
- Adjustable fridge settings via mobile LG app, so you can alter the temperature from home or remotely
- An alarm that’s triggered if you accidentally leave the door open, in order to prevent food from spoiling
What reviewers liked about this fridge:
- The voluminous size of this fridge provided plenty of space for cold foods, as well as frozen goods in the freezer compartment
- The filtered water and crushed ice features were recurring points of praise among reviewers, with many claiming they couldn’t stop coming back for more chilled water
- A budget-friendly option, the non-plumbed fridge was a suitable choice for those who were hesitant to splash out on the additional expenses of a plumbed fridge.
Points to consider:
- The plumbed fridge is $100 more expensive than the non-plumbed fridge. Plus, don’t forget to budget in the additional cost of hiring a plumber to install the plumbed fridge, which usually costs between $100 to $500.
