Washing Machines Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of washing machine would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
I purchased this machine 2 years ago and I have found a rust hole as big as a five cent piece. I called LG and sent them photos of the rust. Without anyone coming to look at the machine I was informed a week later that they have Reviewed my case and they have come to the conclusion that it’s rust cause was from an over use of detergent.. how do they know that? This makes me so angry that I will be taking this further.. buyer beware LG after sales care doesn’t care.
Bought this machine after our last one let go. Very pleased with all the different functions, specially the fast 14 and the timer option. It is very quiet compared to our last one. Only downfall is that even with the crease care option shirts come out very wrinkled. Apart from that very well priced machine.
PERFECT WEDDING GIFT
i was gifted this washing machine back in 2015 from a dear friend for my wedding present, starting a new life etc. i use it probably twice a day, because of a clean freak function i have in my brain, and it has not failed me once. totally recomend this as a gift or just to buy.
Can live without this machine
Hi, had this machine for 4 years now and still going strong. Washes beautifully with no wear and tear on clothes like top loaders. Uses less water and less detergent. The only negative is that the steam (hygiene wash) option makes the whole house stink. It took me weeks to get rid of the smell in the machine when I washed my dogs bedding in there. Now I just use cold water which is fine and regularly do a drum clean cycle. My 2nd large lg front loader. First one lasted 9 years with use every day for family of 5. All I can say is that I alway...s purchase product care with everything I buy as it’s not only peace of mind but so much better to deal with then any of the manufacturers...lg Electrolux, F&P etc. usually no questions asked and replace if not happy. My door had a crack in it and they replaced the door even though it was cosmetic and I probably slammed it too hard. Another thing to note, I was told the capacity is actually 15kg not 10kg. at the time they were marketed this way as they couldn’t sell a 15kg domestic machine only commercial. I think that has changed now though. I have seen smaller 10kg machines so look at the drum size too not just the capacity.
impressed with washing results
I have only owned this machine for a little over a month however it has had a good work out and the washing results I am VERY impressed, our clothing and towels are noticeably brighter and can actually smell the fabric detergent. I owned an LG 9.5kg top loader before this which we had for several years before needing to upgrade and this machine puts that one to shame, a similar model of my old one is still on the market but Ive never owned a front loader and decided based upon kilo capacity and water conservation being the big reasons for purch...asing this. it is quiet, its little musical notes at the end of cycle can be turned off which is great as I have a light sleeper of a one year old so it doesn't wake him. So far I am very happy with this, we did take out product care as we do all appliances just in case. HOWEVER the only downside I have found is there is an add wash option so the machine will stop and you can open the door as the drum leans backwards in this machine, the door has leaked on me after I have added items, never during a wash cycle doing its own thing, only when I add things but in saying that its not ideal but its not astronomical amounts. I avoid add wash because of this. we also purchased the stand/draw for it to raise the machine.
Avoid. Leaks like a sieve. Customer service is appalling.
I’ve had ongoing issues with this machine haemmoraging water from the detergent dispenser for 18 months now. Had the dispenser and door seal replaced as well as the hot and cold water solenoids but it still hasn’t fixed the issue. Even when I don’t use the dispenser (ie adding detergent directly to the load) it still leaks. It’s an intermittent problem and unpredictable. No weird noises or error codes to warn that it’s going to flood. Has flooded my laundry countless times. I now can’t put a load of washing on and leave it unattended. LG custom...er service is poor at best. They have told me not to use the washing machine but have not given me a replacement machine while they sort this one out. Over two weeks now and I’m having to use a family member’s machine. They now want a repairer to take the machine to their workshop for repairs but won’t provide me with a replacement. Told me to go to a laundromat each day or hire a machine from somewhere (after getting 2 quotes!) which they will need to approve. LG Australia you are a complete joke and your customer service is non existent. I’m a slave to this dodgy washing machine. Thanks. Really appreciate it.
Why did I wait so long!
This machine does a fantastic job. It really gets my washing super clean. It's super gentle on delicates and can knock over the the really dirty stuff, no troubles. Super quiet, water efficient and a great range of wash cycles to suit every scenario. Very pleased with the product and highly recommend to anyone looking to upgrade to a large load (10 kilo) capacity.
My Last washing machine was Lg and I was really happy with it.
This is a very large machine and washes all the clothes really well.
I can fit a King size quilt.
Only problem is when its taking water it makes a lot of noise
It takes water in about 5 hard pumping like action. This causes a lot of noise.
Terrible performance, terrible customer service
We bought this washing machine to make life easier due to its large capacity. It has doubled my workload. My husbands work clothes, which are filthy have to be washed twice to get nothing but an average result. My white towels have shadows of stains still left on them. I had a pair of white pants which had cigarette ash fall on them, washed them twice, mark still there. I eventually ran them under the tap and removed the stain with nothing more than cold water and my thumbnail. I've emailed pictures to LG at their request and still have no resp...onse. Every time I call customer service (hahaha) they promise faithfully they will call me back. This has not happened once. When I compare the wash results with my Electrolux front loader, it's night and day. My wash used to come out perfectly, with no need to use pre-wash treatments or run everything on a heavy duty cycle. I have not changed my washing powder, my husband has not changed jobs. The only thing that has changed is my washing results. What galls me the most is that customer service question me whether I know how to wash. I will never, but ever purchase another LG product again and will continue to keep contacting LG until they resolve my issue. This machine is as woeful as their customer service.
It's ok , gets the job done
This is an ok washing machine , I find that it is a quiet washing machine , and has many cycles to choose from . I usually use the quick cycle which runs for 30 minutes and finds it cleans the clothes well , I do find that the bulkier the load or if you are washing blankets or bed sheets the cycles can run up to 2 hours , not really ideal if you want to wash and hang out early .
I do like the way it sings to you when it is done , I have found you have to rinse the tub out at least once a week as there is a slight smell that builds up . I do a tub clean and the function is easy to use .
This beast is the best machine we've ever had
When our 10kg Samsung died within the warranty period we got a refund and looked for something different. At $1499 plus $300 cashback plus $300 Harvey Norman gift card, it was an absolute bargain. The stainless steel model is 1.5 times bigger than any other 10kg washer I have seen. We joke that it's the washer that thinks it's a fridge. Check out the dimensions on the LG website and make sure it's going to fit. The salesperson told me that 10kg washers are all pretty similar to smaller models and even he was surprised when he looked up the webs...ite and realised how big this baby is. I can wash all linens from three bedrooms in one go and it's a rare day that I ever have to do two loads, even when two dirty washing baskets are full to overflowing. We are doing half the loads each week which has made a tremendous difference to a high volume washing family. After setting our favourite cycle the kids are easily able to put on a load and clothes come out clean, perfectly rinsed and well spun. I have tried the duvet cycle but haven't yet used any delicate cycles. To be honest it doesn't seem necessary as everything is coming out really well. I was positively excited the first time I used the "add item" function a few minutes after a cycle had started. There's always that one sock that gets away and now you can put it in without restarting the load. I also use the start delay so wake up with the clothes washed and ready to go out in the morning. I wish we had got one of these years ago as it has really saved us time during busy school/work weeks. There was some tapping for a few seconds the first couple of times the machine started but I opened up the cold water tap as far as it would go and it seems to have fixed it. Overall I would highly recommend this machine to any big family who are high volume washers and want a machine that can keep up.
Owned for 3 months now. I find the sports wear wash is intense and cleans amazing, the option to do a dark clothes wash with reduced heating to limit colour run is perfect. I commonly use the cotton wash. Nothing has ever been over 2 hours yet, and I fill that machine (4 kids)
Clothes come out well spun, not tangled.
Machine is quiet to use. It's my 3rd top loader, first LG and I am most impressed.
Favourite feature - weighs the load and tells you if it's too full
Worst feature - can't add something forgotten once it's started, but any front loader user already would be used to that.
Update Nov 16: Now been 5 months and still faultless
Great machine overall
I've been using this washer for over a week for my large family and have found it to be very good. The clothes are coming out clean, I think the wash time is reasonable for the 10kg+ wash averaging around 105-140 minutes. You can't expect to fill a machine to capacity and have it wash effectively in less time! Having said that there are several other cycles to choose from for smaller loads with much quicker wash times. I used the speed wash for a few items and it was done in 30 minutes. Only negatives are that there is a bit of water hammer at ...the beginning for a few minutes which I'm going to get some arrestors for, and a few times I've had s sock get stuck in the door rubber leaving it still very wet. overall I'm really pleased it! Only real negative is that the child lock feature is pretty useless because it does not include the power button. My toddler delights in turning it on and off and when he does it during a cycle it has to start washing from the beginning! I contacted LG but they were quiet rude about it. I had to come up with my own solution to toddler proof the power button. So if this feature is important to you DON'T BUY A LG FRONT LOADER!
I found this machine to be very good, easy to use and fits a large amount of clothes in the one wash saving time as less loads are required. Clothes come out clean. Good number of wash cycles.
Would be nice if you were able to adjust the ring volume and repeat time like my old machine, but this is only a small thing.
It dose have some water hammer when filling. Has to be caused by machine as the machine next to it and old machine have never done this.
Waste of a lot of good money
Noisy hammering at the start of every load. Washing comes out wet for each and every load whether you put in a small, medium or large load to the point where it feels like if the clothes were any wetter the water would drip from them even though it was on the highest spin cycle. I went to the store of purchase and was told to ring the lg service as this was not right. I called and after some trouble shooting hints the lady said she would book In a service and if he could not fing a fault I would have to pay the fee of $160 . I have had this was...her all of 11 days and regret this purchase for all the 11 days this $1,599+$70delivery & install +$300extra warranty machine has been in my house. I don't know whether to go ahead with the service and risk paying more than what I have already paid or just put up with the machine for the next 10 years or so! I am so disappointed and would say do not buy one of these machines.
I totally agree with you on this issue. I thought it was just us that had this problem. Actually, the hammering was so severe that it burst our pipes. After a $4000 plumbing bill and $1500 x 2 quarters water bill due to the pipes under the house leaking, we are deciding to get another machine. We also put the arresters on and the problem is not as bad but it is still hammering......beware!!!!
Beware water hammer problems
I have spent quite a while researching and finally buying. I am using it for the first time only to find it has a noisy water hammer sound when filling with water. Looking online it seems to be a design problem with LG washers. It seems the problem is corrected with water hammer arrestors from Bunnings attached to the back of the washer which will bring the already huge washer out further. It seems LG know of the problem, but are not addressing it. I always value the opinions on Product Review, and haven't seen this problem before but it seems to be in some other forums. So hoping to fix this tomorrow, and then have a silent washer.
Purchased this machine for my large family (4 children) after always having top loaders - told the capacity was up to 15kgs - as over 10kgs wasn't allowed to be advertised. While the drum size is huge, reducing the number of loads - the amount of time for a wash is increased exponentially - therefore taking the same time as 2 loads in a smaller machine. The speed wash feature is designed to only have half a load size (must be less than 5kgs), and by washing less, it takes the same time as 2 loads in a smaller machine.
The machine does not r...emove lint and heaven forbid a sock with grass on it ends up in the load - as all of your clothes will come out covered in grass. The lint filter never has anything in it - I follow the instructions and empty monthly, but its always empty - the lint is still on my clothes. Previous top-loaders I emptied daily with plenty of lint / hair. The spin cycles are full on, and while its good to have less water in the finished clothes - it is destroying my clothes, anything with elastic in the fabric is literally disintegrating. I do use fabric softener but find my towels are all now ruined. The machine is extremely large, we were not made aware of a draw to place it on, and with a previous back injury - the constant bending down is painful. Clothes mostly come out in one lump is heavy, tangled and creased. The machine cannot be paused, as after 3 minutes it turns itself off , and does not resume its time when re-powered -this is not helpful when pausing to take a shower.

Best. Machine. Ever!
I had a 9.5kg Electrolux water saving top loader which was the worst machine in history. That being said, I have always liked top loaders over front loaders because they are generally quicker and bigger. But I thought I'd take a chance and try a front loader since everyone was raving about them, and I am so glad that I did.
I purchased this machine approximately 3 months ago from Bing Lee for under $1400 delivered and installed, including the custom pedestal stand/drawer that the machine sits on (catalogue special). It is worth noting that ...if you are going to purchase this machine, the custom stand is a must as it is bigger than most standard front loaders (so you can't buy a generic one), and because the drum is so large, much easier on the back when loading and unloading the machine. PROS: This machine is rated as 10kg but it is, in reality, more like 15kg. The drum size is HUGE! We are a family of 4, and we all use bath sheets. I used to have to do 2 loads to get all our bath and other towels washed but this MASSIVE machine takes everything with room to spare. Like JemmDs, I have gone from 8 or 9 loads per week to 3-4. We also have a king bed so I can easily fit in all the bedding including duvets etc. It even has a Duvet wash cycle. This machine is also super quiet. The laundry is near my kids bedrooms and the old machine used to wake them up if I had put a load on after bedtime. It has a Silent wash function but even on a normal load, you just cannot hear it, even on full spin! A lot of people don't like front loaders because of the long wash times. This may have been true years ago, but most wash cycles on this machine are comparable to my last 2 top loaders. Also, this machine will almost always allow you to throw that extra sock in simply by pausing the cycle. The door will not unlock unless it is safe to do so.
From Hater To LOVER!
Everything I've ever bought LG brand has been terrible & broken quickly. I have therefore steered clear of the brand for 10 years.
That was until THIS machine! With 4 children, the drum of my Samsung 7kg front loader just wasn't big enough to hold the amount of washing & my king sized bedding.
I went on the hunt for a new machine &, as usual, I steered clear of LG.
That was until a saleperson pointed me to this BEAST of a machine & I had a quick look, turned it on & was in AWE at it's massive size.
The Samsung & Panasonic 10kg machines had ...

Which program is best for towels?
We ended up buying this machine about 6 weeks ago from Harvey Norman. We love the size and the quality of the wash, however the hammer noise at the taps is very disturbing and can be heard throughout the house when the machine is going. We have owned 3 front loaders before this one, and have never come across this issue. Another frustration is that our washing does not come out as dry as it did with our old machine which only had a 1000 rpm. We set the LG to 1400 rpm but the washing comes out heavier and wetter than my old machine. I have contacted LG who will send out a technician, however they advised me that if he/she does not find a fault, then we will be charged. ...how can that be? I am not calling them out for fun. I have a legitimate concern about the machine. Seems I may be better off insisting on a refund at Harvey Norman and trying another one.
Appreciate if anyone can advise on this
I would ask for a full refund. There has been a problem with these machines for years. We were told to try a water hammer arrestor but the problem still persisted. We have a few LG products which have been great, but when there is a known problem the product should be recalled. We upgraded to Miele and am extremely happy. Good luck
I agree with Debra. We also tried the arresters with no luck! I would personally be asking for a refund. Even if they fix the RPM issue, the hammering is a fault within this machine and it'll be something that you'll have to deal with for the length of time you decide to keep the machine for. This is a known fault for this machine that LG haven't bothered to rectify or have recalled. I also changed to the Miele and haven't been happier. The wash is beautiful, leaves my clothes so clean and fresh and the best thing is....... NO HAMMERING!!! Good Luck :)
I have the same problem with my LG front loader, had a plumber come out to check that hammer noise throughout the pipes and was told it was the restricter on my hot water system, replacing this would fix it. At $250 ea, I still haven't replaced them. I also have the same problem with the clothes coming out quite wet, was told that these machines don't spin as fast as the top loaders. Wasn't told this at purchase. I have had my machine for a year now and it is high maintenance, need to drain the water from the machine otherwise it gets stale and makes your machine smell, leaving the door open helps but not practical, the rubber around the door needs constant cleaning as it collects lint, hair and any other objects that may be left in pockets, eg: paper, plus it gets mouldy. I have to make do with my machine as I no longer work, but I won't buy another front loader. Very disappointed.
Does the machine have a matching dryer??
I don't think so?
I know there's a washer/dryer combo machine in this series though but I prefer 2 seperate units than all in one.
My machine does NOT have the steam wash option like the picture on my review shows.
They don't have a pic of my machine. Ring Harvey Norman & ask them about the dryer??
Good luck :)
