Very unsatisfied! Poor quality and rude staff
I ordered a dress through the Varsity Lakes Store after a short and rushed appointment. Despite the rudeness of the staff I loved the style of the dress and decided to purchase immediately due to the threat of the 6 month time restriction (ridiculous). The dresses are measured and made to a standard size. When the dress arrived 3 months later it did not fit. The sample size 6 had fit perfectly and now I had a size 2 corset that could barely cover half of my body. It was obvious this dress was beyond repair. The customer service team sit behind ...a computer and refuse to see you or speak to you. They don’t even provide a phone number to contact! 6 weeks and many emails later they finally saw me and the dress was swapped for the now old and battered sample dress which I will not be wearing. 5 weeks out from my wedding day I am dressless and mad. These girls are rude and unapologetic whilst lacking in basic dress making skills and protocol. Good luck to this basic Instagram company!
Disappointed and deterred
A truly disheartening experience. Not worth my time, energy, or money. I felt so unwelcome
after being greeted by an assistant who couldn’t even introduce herself. I was told I could try on 3-4 dresses which I had to nominate without being able to look through them. The quality and the fit was poor and they looked nothing like the pictures online. To make matters worse, I wasn’t helped into the dresses nor were the dresses fitted to flatter my body. Instead, I stood there with my boobs out and zipper undone. I’m a tall, size 10 woman, yet this ...
Hopeless at their job
I contacted the store very far in advance to book in an appointment for a certain day as I had organised this with my bridal party. MWL told me I couldn’t book the appointment because it was too far in advance and to email back with about 6 weeks notice. When I did this I got the reply that the time I wanted was no longer available. I was confused as to how this happened if they were not taking bookings prior to the day I email.
When I told them I couldn’t make that time due to other appointments the same day they tried to offer me another ap...pointment and kept sending me invoices to pay for the appointment. I told them I couldn’t make it any more. They then emailed me a few weeks later to see if I could make an appointment time that had come available and within minutes of getting that email they email me again saying oh no that’s been snapped up how about this time instead? I emailed back telling them I would not be buying my dress through them due to their poor customer service and I didn’t even receive an email back apologising.
Beautiful dresses but the customer service could have been better
Beautiful dresses, however I find it strange how you cannot take photos nor even have a second appointment to try the dresses on again to determine if you're sold on the dress. It's a lot to pay for a product you've only tried on/seen once. The consultant was more concerned with telling my guests what to do/say than answering any questions I had. There was a lot of sighing when I asked my guests to show me a photo of another dress I had tried on elsewhere, so I could compare, due to the no phone policy. The consultant also wouldn't even tell me what size I was trying on for me to be able to determine if the dress was too small or simply just a snug/uncomfortable fit, despite me asking multiple times.
Perfect! If you’re a size 6 model
I researched a lot of dresses online before deciding to email MWL about trying on “Billie”. The staff were extremely helpful via email and booked me in to their Sydney boutique. I wasn’t bothered about the fee I think that is fair enough, especially if you don’t end up buying a dress, which I didn’t. The dresses I tried on were so beautiful but I felt ugly in them. They are designed for gorgeous people with perfect skin and bodies and I didn’t fit the mould. I am a size 8 and felt fat trying on Billie which shows off every single curve. This ...brand is not really for the “real” bride..it’s for the girl who is already gorgeous and looks like a supermodel and will just look better on her wedding day. That’s why you’re not allowed to take photos and post them on social media (not that I was going to). Sorry MWL but you need to take a leaf out of Halfpenny London’s book in my opinion if you want to place yourselves in the world market for REAL brides making real people feel beautiful
Waste of $50 and poor customer service.
I was so excited to try on my favourite dress at MWL in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast- even travelled an hour to get there. I was a little taken back about having to pay $50 to try on dresses at there showroom, but i couldn't resist not trying on my favourite dress. So i brushed this and went in with an open mind. I was then a little shocked at how hard it was to find the entrance to the showroom, then we got in to be told we were not allowed to take photos. After trying on 10-15 dresses in a day (at multiple companies), it all becomes a blur...r and honestly i got home and forgot what dress was what and what did and did not look good on me. I was then furious when i was told all the dresses in the showroom were the sizes the models wore- after i had sent them my 5 dresses to try on in a 10-12)- which being a standard size i was gobsmacked. I did fortunately fit into all dresses besides 1- the dress i came to try on!! However in so much discomfort it was extremely hard to picture the dress in my correct size. I felt like the stylist was not very genuine as she told me i looked amazing in every single dress i tried on when they were clearly 1-2 sizes to small and didn't sit very nice. If you are any bigger than a 10-12, don't expect any of the dresses to fit you- such a shame and not very nice on the self esteem. I will not be recommending this company, and whilst the dresses are lovely you're paying $50 for nothing! Can highly recommend Grace Loves Lace.
Disappointing experience and not worth the money
I was very disappointed with my MWL experience and I don’t understand how they have so many good online reviews. I will try and summarise my experience from start to finish. Made an appointment to try on dresses at their Gold Coast boutique (for a fee of $30 – granted, refunded with purchase), had to pre-pick certain dresses to try, wasn’t allowed to take photos of myself in the dresses, despite providing my size (10) when booking the only size they had to try for the dress I really wanted was a size 6 (I get the concept of samples, but why not...make your sample a size 12 so at least most people can try it). My appointment was 10 months prior to my wedding but nearly immediately after leaving the studio I was hassled over email to order ASAP and make full payment as they need 9 months to make the dresses. This was puzzling considering the dresses are not actually made to measurements but rather just ‘put together’ based on your size (i.e. if you’re an 8 on top and a 10 on the bottom they will sew the two pre-made parts together). I have since been told all their dresses are manufactured in Asia. I proceeded with purchasing and paying in full online as I did really like the one dress I had tried (despite not being able to try it on properly/fasten it due to the size). The dress ended up arriving about 1 month earlier than expected which was extremely fortunate considering it was unwearable in the condition it arrived. Not one element of the dress fit me, it was extremely baggy around the hips but too tight in other areas. After notifying them, I was advised by the MWL staff that they made my dress in a size 10/12 despite my receipt stating that the ordered size was an 8. Certainly, the worst fitting dress I have ever purchased for $3,000! I immediately emailed MWL (as they don’t have a phone to call) who agreed to pay for alterations after seeing the photos. This was appreciated but not overly helpful as I had to pay over $600 in flights to get to their recommended seamstress on the Gold Coast. The seamstress worked what I can only describe as magic and managed to get the dress to a wearable condition, but it is far from the beautiful gown I had imagined wearing on my wedding day. It was actually the only element of my wedding that I really disliked so fortunately I was the only one affected by it. Anyone I speak to I strongly recommend AGAINST a MWL gown.
Poor customer service - Varsity Lakes
Varsity Lakes (Gold Coast)
Beautiful store and dresses, but i was so disappointed with the customer service, and won't be purchasing a dress from here purely based on this this. I was rushed in and out of my appointment with no follow up. No photos allowed, and this was voiced in a very abrupt manner, told not to touch phones. I was told that there was no follow up appointment, and that i had to order within 2 days or i wouldn't be able to order my dress (11months out from my wedding). I understand dresses can take an extended period, but a f...riend purchased from here a few months earlier and her dress arrived in half that time. I was told not to call if i wanted to purchase, just to send a text as she would be too busy with other brides. However she was on her phone throughout the appointment. Dresses were quite large on me (which was understandable, as you can only stock limited range), however no clips were used to help you see or understand what it would look like. The lady also stood in the room as i got undressed each time to make sure i didn't take photos. Such a disappointing service.
I went to the Sydney MWL studio - I was 20 min early and the girl there told me she didn’t have much time as she had a lot of admin to do. From that moment I felt uncomfortable about being there, she proceeded to speak rudely to me and would not let me look at the dresses - instead she picked what she thought I would like. Even if I did love one of the dresses I would not buy from this place as the whole experience was awful, not the way you should feel as a bride to be! Even my MIL was shocked at how rude we were treated. Definitely need work on your customer service MWL..
DO NOT BE FOOLED
Tears, tears and more tears. (There is a happy ending though). I ordered my dress at MWL Sydney and had measurements taken precisely by them 10monhs before my wedding.
They shipped my wedding dress two months before the wedding date but with no notification that it was on its way, and then the courier left it at the front door! Thousands of dollars on a wedding dress for it to be left there. I tried to let this not concern me because I was so excited to try my dress on.... It had been made SO small it looked nothing like it did in the shop. I...
I had to alter a dress for a friend’s daughter from this company. Her measurements had been taken but the dress was unwearable. I let it out 3 inches and it was still very tight. The fabric is cheap and the workmanship is shoddy. A complete rip off. Not even worth $200 let alone $2000. Total scam
NOTHING UNIQUE ABOUT THEM
None of their designs are there own, they copy and rip off successful labels eg. WATTERS and slam on thousands more then the original design! Disgusting. If you want an EXACT cheap copy for thousands more then sure... they are pitiful and embarrassing. Laugh and feel sorry for every bride wearing a MWL gown - knowing they’ve been ripped off massively!!
Not worth the stress for the price
I ordered Dasha online and arrived with completely different neck line shape than photos. Two inches of neckline had been cut off the top of my dress with scissors (could see the rough cutting) Lace was glued to top of bodice around neckline. Fitted terribly and very frumpy due to the changes they made without notifying me. It was honestly jaw dropping and not what you expect for $3600. Made with love did fix it for me however this was not done in their factory which they claim is in Australia. I was asked to take it to a local alterations plac...e who they recommended (does not work for them). I was happy with my dress on the day however it was not worth the 12 weeks of stress and sleepless nights it caused me, and I certainly did not need to go through that 12 weeks before my wedding. I also believe when you pay a large amount of money for a wedding dress it should come with basic things you would expect like a hook and eye and reinforced straps but it did not and I had to make these additions myself. I also had to change the hand loop to come out the top of the train not the underside so that when I lifted the train you could see the lace and not the ugly underlay. I have meet 3 other brides who purchased from Made with Love and all had very similar experiences. Yes they have nice dresses on their website but for the stress and inconvenience that come with buying from them I would not recommend made with love to any bride.
Questions & Answers
Good afternoon! My daughter is looking at the Scottie. I am concerned about alterations due to the fabric. Is it even possible to alter the length or the waist given the lace fabric?
My daughter is looking to order the Scottie dress and we are just concerned regarding delivery from China with the COVID situation.
I would suggest giving them a call.
The dresses are made in Australia and I don’t believe the material is sourced from China.
The girls are amazing they will happily answer your delivery questions.
Hi Maureen (and Lora!),
We are all good to go with orders, and our production team are excited to make your daughter's beautiful Scottie dress :) If you have any questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org <3
I am thinking about purchasing the Riley crepe but I’m worried that I won’t be able to take the straps in as the top half is heavily beaded.
