Medela Freestyle
Horrible expensive useless
Breast pump shut give comfort. This crap product gives me stress nothing else. Sometimes it works amazing, mostly not working at all. Every part it seems to be ok but when it comes to pump is not pumping with means it leaves you with full painful breasts
Purchased in November 2016 for $414.00.

Broken connector, poor suction
Very regret buying this pump. Having first baby and no idea what pump to buy and decided just to get this as I needed on the day. Bought for $400++ AUD and never happy with this. First couple months I thought I didn't have good supply , went to check the pump with the store and the connector is not working properly so they gave me a new one and came home with better suction. After another month it's same problem, I can never empty my breasts even though this is a freestyle , I still have to massage and work through my breasts yet the suction is...
Read more powerful enough to empty the milk out. Very disappointed. I have been wondering why my supply never go up even though I have done power pumping (pump every 3 hourly). June 7th 2019 Update: New connectors leak Now that Medela responded to my review earlier which is great and I am happy with their action. New connectors immediately posted and they work better than the old model. However I find that this has another issue. The connector that screws in to the bottle sometimes leak. After finish pumping, when I unscrew the connector from the bottle, the milk drips or it just simply leaks when you are pumping. This is bad design. Medela needs to improve the design again. not a happy customer !Purchased in December 2018 at Baby Bunting for $450.00.

Waste of money, time and stress a new mum doesn’t need
What an absolute waste of money. Purchased this and had issues with it since day one. It’s almost like the pump isn’t strong enough to get the double effect and I would have to pump separately. It then got to the point where I would get more with a manual pump and absolutely nothing, NOTHING with the pump, even individually. I would swap all pars around, wash and dry correctly. It was so temperamental and unpredictable. For someone who was exclusively expressing to feed bub it was the last thing I needed.
Purchased in December 2018 for $400.00.

Double pumping not working!!!
I'm 4 months pp, breastfeeding. The 1st 3 months I pumped twice a day, but only as single. Pump worked great. Then I returned to work and began double pumping. Unfortunately it hasnt worked from day one of double pumping. Every session it takes me at least 10 minutes to get both sides working effectively. Sometimes it doesnt work at all and I miss a session. When it does work, I get to level 8 power level, and the machine will have a continuous beep and will either stop producing milk altogether or slow right down. And I know there is milk ther...
Read moree. This is a $400+ machine that i have to spend $60 every 3 months for parts. I have now gone and had my pump checked at the store where I bought it. twice. Twice they have replaced the connectors. Today was the 2nd time infact and guess what, it's working worse than before I went. Its the most frustrating thing I have experienced and because if this I am ready to give up on breastfeeding. Safe to say I will not be Recommending.Purchased in September 2018 for $400.00.

fickle
This was purchased with little research done, but I had heard good things about Medela. On advice from a lactation consultant I was encouraged to pump to build my supply. I had previously had an Event but lost parts of it when we moved. My husband was at Baby Bunting and got one for me I wanted a double pump.
However, for the expense of the machine it is not worth it. I wanted a Spectra however couldn't wait for it on order. Whilst the Freestyle has good suction when it works it is so fickle that I am never sure what I am going to get. I ca...
Read moren spend the first 10 minutes just trying to get it to suck. One side usually works but like others have said I am constantly pulling it apart and drying elements of it. It will then work and then suddenly stop again. Yes, double pumping is a lot quicker but with all the parts and the constant pulling it a part it is a stress that we just don't need. Trying to manage a toddler and a new born and then worry if the pump is actually going to work has just been too much. I would not recommend this pump to people. It is a purchase that we regret. it is way over-priced, has too many parts and not reliable at all.4 comments

Temperamental and unreliable
I am writing this at 4am after this pump, yet again, has decided not to work. This is one of the worst products I have ever purchased and has caused me and my husband endless frustration. The price is in no way justified. The component parts are so temperamental, that either one or both sides of the pump decided not to work at any given time and for no apparent reason (we are drying the parts constantly to ensure no water is in the system, and have even resorted to using a hairdryer to ensure no water remains in the pump system but to no avail)...
Read more. It is fortunate that that I have not been able to exclusively breastfeed because this pump is fundamentally unreliable. I am extremely disappointed in this product and will likely be forced to purchase another pump. Rest assured it will not be Medela.1 comment

Worst product ever!!!
I'm very disappointed with the medela products. Any by PRODUCTS , what I mean is that I've use two different products of medela and found both useless. 1st I bought medela swing which lost its suction in a month so I had to contact the customer service where they took forever to respond and I was getting mad because my newborn is having only breast milk no formula and he doesnt latch on so im a exclusive pumper and it's very difficult to expressed by hand once you get used to of pumping.

Horrible, absolute joke of a pump
I purchased this pump online brand new from nursing angel. Within a week it began to play up and have similar problems as someone listed below. Constantly needing to pull apart and put parts back together and they continue to not work properly. I'm beyond tired sitting up late at night pumping and pumping on my breaks at work are a nightmare as i end up having to hold this "handsfree pump". I end up having to use it as a single pump while holding it in a specific way and it'll sometimes work, usually not. Beyond sick of dealing with this. Repla...

Horrible double pump - strongly do not recommend
I strongly do not recommend this as a double pump. I have twin girls and purchased this for the sole purpose of double pumping. It can pump one fine, but double has no suction. I replaced mine under warranty thinking it was faulty, as I have heard nothing but good reviews about this pump. It was a very lengthy, and draining process to get them to replace this pump. In the end it was replaced after being tested multiple times with “nothing wrong with it”. Testing is completed on a single pumping mode, so the effectiveness of double pumping is no...
Read moret shown. After mentioning consumer laws and an ombudsman my pump was replaced. The replacement pump is the same, a product which can not do what it states which is “double pumping”. A huge disappointment, waste of money, time, and depleated my precious milk supply whilst trying to replace it.1 comment

Good pump, shameful customer service
I have newborn twins and my pump wouldnt connect to the charger at midnight on a Saturday night. I tried googling, calling and emailing customer service but had no luck. On Sunday morning I asked a family member to buy a new pump at 7am when the pharmacy opened so I would be able to continue to feed. After buying a new pump and charger, I discovered it was in fact the old charger that wasn’t working and the old pump was fine. I received a response to Saturday’s email on Monday afternoon. They said they could send me a new pump or charger if I h...
Read moread a receipt for my original pump. I responded by confirming that it was the charger, but that I did not have the receipt. I explained that I had also purchased a new pump and asked if there was anything that could be done. I was informed that they would not help, and that I should have driven to a shop to test my pump on a charger instead of buying a new pump. I was horrified. Having explained already my TWINS were being bottle fed only, obviously this was urgent and I found the unsolicited advice to drive around testing my pump completly impractical and grossly insulting. It is not surprising that with newborn twins, and a c section, I would be unable to go driving around testing out my pump with my screaming hungry babies in the car. Not to mention the damage this would have done to my supply. I sensibly took steps to mitigate my losses when I purchased the new pump, and when I was asked if they would take back the new pump my request was flatly denied on the basis that it was no longer be and new. I am astounded that a company could be so disconnected from the industry it is in and that it’s emloyees could be so unprofessional in demeanour. I will never purchase anything from Medela again, and will happily spread the word to other mums. Shameful.4 comments

Horribly frustrating
I got this pump as a gift and have had trouble with it from the get go. I've had the parts replaced twice and have had a new pump sent to me and I still have trouble with it. My main frustration with it is that it will not double pump. I've tried everything in the trouble shooting section of the manual and it still does not double pump; the suction is so weak.
However, it's great for single pumping. But only being able to single pump is unacceptable as the pump is designed to double pump. My sister-in-law didn't spend all that money for me to...

Worst Pump Ever
I purchased this pump 2 months ago from my local Babies R Us and already to had to have the parts, power cord and motor replaced. It loses suction after a few times and I have to either use it as a single which takes me twice as long to pump or use my EvenFlo single pump when I don't have time to pump for 30+ minutes. By far the worst pump that I've used to date and the Google reviews indicate some of the same complaints. Very dissatisfied with this purchase and would not recommend to anyone.
Don't waste your money
I bought this for $500 just oven 2 years ago for my first child, who refused to take a bottle so was used about 10 times. It has been in storage until 3 months ago when my second child arrived. I have a much greater need for it this time as my daughter has poor health & has been in & out of ICU where she can't feed for long periods of time and I need to express for this reason. I am so disappointed with the poor performance of this pump, there have been issues with it not charging, with the battery not working & now it will only work when pl...

Please Do Not Waste Your Money!
I have never written a review in my life but felt I should for this. I bought this pump only to find the best thing about this 500 dollar purchase was the accessories it came with (which I could have bought separately for 50 dollars). The first thing I noticed was how extremely loud this pump was. The second thing I noticed was the lack of milk it expressed after 20 minutes of pumping (less than 1 oz TOTAL). I immediately pumped with my pump in style which wasn't working well at all and pumped 10 oz in 15 minutes. The box clearly states that it...
Read more is designed to get 18% more milk but don't be fooled. That is false advertising at its best!! When I contacted the company I got the "too bad, so sad, the pump is non refundable" attitude. I continued replying to the emails and each time they replied I got the same "too bad" type of message. Their pump in style is an amazing pump but the freestyle sucks, and so does their customer service. I will be going with a different brand for all my breastfeeding related needs.nma14Melbourne

Noisy and not very effective.
My husband bought the double pump set and just about every accessory for it (except the bra because I refused to even consider using it). All up, he spent about $650 as Babys'R'Us was having a sale. I would only use a single pump but it's not very effective in expressing milk unless you are already leaking milk and ready to burst. I wouldn't have minded so much about the noise if this had worked for me but unfortunately, it didn't. The pump just did not feel strong enough, even at the highest level. I kept an open mind for as long as I could ...
Read more(about 4 weeks) but would usually end up frustrated with the process and time wasted when there is so much else to do. In the end, I stopped using it because it just meant spending 30 mins or so expressing such negligible amounts of milk then having to wash and sterilise the equipment without any benefit from expressing. If I give try it again and things improve, I'm more than happy to change my review but for now, I just want to pack it in storage.Questions & Answers

Can this be used as one pump at a time or does both have to be used together?
3 answers
Yes, I think so. Use plastic wrap between shield and breastshield connector. Then you can transfer Freestyle to a single pump
Yes, it can be used either one pump or two pumps.
Medela A.Medela
Hi Chris, yes the Freestyle can easily be converted from a double to a single pump and back again simply by unplugging the tubing from one of the pump connectors and plugging it into the square shaped adaptor in the centre of the tubing. This needs to be done to regulate the vacuum otherwise it will be lost out of the side not being used. Thank you Medela Australia.
