Steering hose Repair
That steering hose failed on my van a few years ago
I removed the complete hose and took it to a hydraulic hose shop and they cut the pipe section and the end off and swagged/crimped a complete new hose onto the metal end parts. It took them about 30 minutes and wasn’t expensive ( was cheaper than buying a new part )
I also had the new hose section longer so it didn’t cross over the front of the injector pump

Hi Graham F.
What motor do you have in your MB100
MB100 only refers that the body is a short wheel base body
MB140 is reference to the long wheel base body
Both the MB100 and the MB140 body’s have the option of three different motors

There is a 4 cylinder M161 In-line Fuel Injected Gasoline twin cam 2.295 cc
There is a 4 cylinder OM661 in line Diesel motor 2299cc
There is a 5 cylinder OM662 in line Diesel motor 2874cc
When seeking information on MB motor parts it would be helpful informing which motor you have in your MB100 Van. I have access to the parts catalogue. But without that info I am unable to assist.

I have removed the exhaust manifold and have a clear view of the leak which appears to be coming from a pinhole leak on a metal pipe that appear to come from the water pump cannot remove pipe so i have put steel epoxy around the pipe an a rubber clamp this has stopped the leak.
It may only be temporary as the pipe may be corroded inside
Is there a way to replace the pipe without buying a new water pump. Thanks for your help

Hi Graham f.
In regards to the cooling pipe under the manifold . I sent to your product review email drawings and part numbers of the cooling hoses and steering hoses. Did you find them?
The pipe is not part of the water pump
From what I recall the pipe plugs into the back of the timing chest with an
O ring and into the motor with a O ring
The water pump bolts onto the front of the timing chest ( a big job to remove cooling pipe) and you would most likely not be able to buy it. Myself I would clean the pipe and use J B Weld epoxy
Then make sure you keep good quality
Radiator antifreeze to prevent any more corrosion

Thanks mate..received the email but was not able to download. Have put everything back together after the repair. Took it for a couple of hundred km run everything seemed ok just used tap water ,will drain radiator an refill with coolant next week. Still would like to get a picture of the drawing and and part number ..thanks you your help once again

Hey!
Any advice on where to get replacement parts for MB100 Merc van?
It's fitted out as a camper and I'm hoping to do lots of travel in her but can't find replacement parts in my area.
Any help would be so appreciated!!!
Thanks! :)

Hi kianna, mine is a camper too. What kind of parts do you mean...under the bonnet...or external bits? Unless you are committed to dyi mechanical...I found older style or experienced small business auto-mechanics always are the best. Also found they could find/do whatever was needed, as well as source parts through their Australia-wide database of wreckers to fit broken things if they were needed. Prior to travel do a thorough check before taking off. May spend a bit upfront. Is worth it. Happy travelling.

Heya! I'm looking for two tie rods for my steering, mainly looking for under the bonnet, external bits I'm not too worried about just grabbing the part off eBay. (like indicators etc)
A mechanic that just looked at it told me no dice for finding parts so I called over half a dozen places including some wreakers and Merc specialists today and no luck. But I just learnt that the mb100 is the exact same as the ssangyong istana so gonna call around and ask about that model and try my luck.
Thanks heaps for your reply!

Mine is a few years younger. Same model (100D). I found a young man who is a Mercedes mechanic (with a love for its vehicles older and newer. He is a fount of help. Better still, is taking your vehicle to a non-Mercedes specific “European” car auto mechanic/shop, or a German car one. These kind of places are still often run by older guard who will give you the time and solve questions you cannot.
If you haven’t got a manual? They are discoverable online by searching a bit deep then downloading. That also may help. Just got to reach out. Does not have to cost an arm and a leg and you can find the right help.

Where to find key code for mb100 I lost key bought blank and need key number code?

paul

It may be in the owner's handbook, but if you have lost that, give Mercedes a call with the rego & VIN details & possibly your receipts for ownership. Ask Merc for other alternatives too.

MB 100/140 EFI petrol only Hard to start when Hot
(This could be worth a check)
If your van is hard to start when warm / hot, it could be due to a few different reasons but However the most commonly noted cause for such a problem is the CTS engine coolant temperature sensor.

If the sensor is not working correctly, it will not be read the correct temperature information to the ECU and allow for more fuel to be injected in the warm engine. This can result in hard starting or trouble restarting the engine and might even cause the engine to run rough when it eventually starts.
Many times simply unplugging and plugging the sensor sometimes identifies the problem. The coolant temperature sensor informs the ECU temperature information for the correct fuel mixture to be injected into a hot or cold engine as it starts

The sensor’s wiring and plug can sometimes get chapped or broken. Moreover, if you have a multi meter and specifications you can use it to see if the CTS is working correctly and if not you would need to replace the sensor with a new one. Also on near all EFI engines there are two temperature sensors one is the engine temperature gauge sensor on the engine block or head this is for the temp gauge only. The other one is the CTS sensor near or on the water pump / thermostat which feeds temperature information to the ECU.

A coolant sensor that is somehow unplugged , may think the temperatures are 5C below O while one that has gone wrong or has its wires crossed could take the temperatures as wrong and high as 116 C degrees. In both cases, the temperature data sent to the ECU will not have the correct information for adjusting the fuel mixture resulting in hard starts. Most times installing a new coolant temperature sensor should fix the issue promptly, though you must do a multi-meter to rule out if the CTS is indeed the cause. “This is a possibility only there may be another cause”

Hi all,
is it possible to upgrade the gearbox in a MB 100D to a 6 speed manual?

AJW
AJW

Why exactly? The speed torque curve for the engine shows good power and torque across the 2500 to 3500rpm range which is where this engines revs well. Normally sits at around 3000 rpm at 100kph quite comfortably.
However it seems to have a sweet spot at around 2750 rpm where it feels and sounds comfortable.
If you want to run at this sort of rpm at highway speeds then maybe fit a larger tyre size.
Perhaps a 215/85 R16 light truck tyre, but check clearance on turn and wheel arches first.
This will travel around 10% further distance for ever rotation than the standard size tyre.
So when you speed reads 90kph you will be doing 99kph, but at 2700rpm instead of 3000rpm.
You might also find that 3rd gear is also better for roundabouts.

Stephan Hoffmann
Stephan Hoffmann

Thank you for your reply, worth considering, still it feels a 6th gear would be nice at times.

Ronald B.

Theres no upgrade for transmission compatible with mb100D, but converting to a turbo engine is the best way it you want power ang additional speed, here in the Philippines they installed a turbo comming from musso engine, or just change engine with musso or rexton, they have the same engine monting.
