Don’t buy 111cdi 2016 model Vito van
The first 18th mths it was great!!
Then when 18mths old the turbo went on it with about 40000kms. Took Mercedes 3mths to repair as they replaced the turbo and then got all these other warning lights coming on. After 3 mths they got someone else to look at it and realised it was the wrong turbo. I think no one real knew what they were doing since it’s a Renault engine in these 111cdi front wheel drive.
Then around the 2-2.5 yrs old I had some sensors go in the exhaust and engine, that took 3wks to repair cause the parts had to come from o/s.
Purchased in June 2016 for $48,000.00.
Worst Van ever
I have owned brand new transits, vivaros and combos but i thought i would try a vito but its the worst van of them all. The engine is so loud it sound like its 20 years old, its too low and hits speed bumps and curbs, the radio connects to your phone but drops calls halfway through talking, if you hammer it on the motorway then for the rest of the day it sounds like the exhaust is blowing (boy racer car sound). Please note that this is a brand new 2020 vito van and has had these problems since i drove it off the forecourt.
Purchased in May 2020 at Mercedes-Benz Dealers for $16,995.00.
Worse car I've owned!
4 years old. In the workshop every 2_3 months. Break power booster failed, tx valve aircon and evaporator fan failed, rear shocks failed, gas struts failed, turbo intercooler failed. All within 90,000kms.
Purchased in December 2015 for $48.00.
Our company purchased circa 12 Vito vans from MB Brighton and ALL were to be 100% the same, specs, etc. to replace a fleet of Hyundai ILoads.
When delivered, they were various years, some of which had a VIN # 2 years earlier than others. Some had rust, side windows, etc.
They were ALL various configurations.
Not sure what the company owners ultimately did, but my job was to replace each and every one of them, all of which were costly to run, poor performing, always coming out of alignment, chewed up tires, etc.

my vito is as good as it was in 2002
i bought mine as a demo in 2002. Stock standard manual 108cdi, no luxury add ons. Manual everything. I didput in an aircon, which wasnt very effective due to the volume of the van. After 14 years and 120,000kms still going very well. I did all my oil changes and servicing after the first year. Merc charges too much. Just changed brake pads all round and front disc rotors from supercheapauto. I will never buy anothet judging by the numerous bad reviews from everyone. Maybe I am just lucky with this basic van.
Vito SWB 113cdi, 2012, 2.1 litre diesel.
I bought a SWB crew Vito with back seats bench fitted. I found the Vito to be quite good. I had a big problem with transmission jumping into "limp mode". Very hard to trace cause, as it would happen at any time. After quite some time and all kinds of replacement parts, the dealer arranged for new TCU (transmission control unit). Mercedes Benz was quite good about this as the vehicle was only just out of warranty and they covered the cost. I'm not super impressed with the basic audio system, but It does the job. I found the tyres scrubbing out q...uickly, but I now fill tyres with nitrogen and this has helped a lot. The only thing I found annoying was that the vehicle was not fitted with safety handles above the doors or handles to assist with entry or egress. I had those fitted after market.
will never buy another vito
Purchased from a dealer in January 2006, 4000km, has now done 155000km and serviced as per specifiactions. Interior "appalling quality", but worse of all the airconditioning does not work if temperature is 33c+, blows hot air,had taken back to dealer during and after warranty between 25 and 30 times, they could not find anything
Nothing more than wear and tear
2004 has now done 420,000 ks and still going strong. Only replaced tyres, rear shocks, window sliders and other consumables. Central locking plays up now and again, doesn't always lock all doors, probably a poor contact due to wear. Do most of my own services as MB are nothing but a rip off, or I take it to the loacal mechanic.
Bought filters, pads etc. from Ireland when dollar was good and saved around 50% including freight. Might have to source locally now, but still way cheaper than dealer. Hunt around for parts - don't buy from MB dealer....
Few issues after 208,000km
2005 W639 Viano Trend Diesel, 8 seater. Bought new. Comfortable long distance travel for 8 genuine adults plus some luggage. Tows well, though turbo lag at low revs is noticeable. Have had both front window winders fail, poor design of plastic bits, did a home grown repair the second time. Fuel leak at fuel filter, replaced filter and O rings, suspect the previous filter change did not include the o rings. Slow leak in aircon, needs top up every couple of years, started when under warranty but unable to find the leak.
Front suspension link p...ins wore in 3 years, replaced them myself. Tires last well once I empirically added a small amount of toe out from factory specs. Long service intervals good, Rear wiper parking erratic, poor design of electrics, a water hose goes through the housing with the contacts, any small seepage results in contact corrosion. The factory rear shocks are too soft. Like the package size, will fit in most car parks and turning circle is good. Electronic differential control is not a patch on a real mechanical LSD. NVH is reasonable, recently drove a 2015 W447 Valente and it is considerably quieter. Ability to move seats in small increments great, particularly like seat belts built into seats.can remove them totally and get a good low floor van, but hard work single handed. Unable to get a decent workshop manual. Dealer servicing was expensive but no real problems. Once out of warranty have done service work myself except auto transmission and aircon services. Disappointed replacement W447 is not available as a 4wd in RHD nor are there any engine options on the Valente which is already pretty expensive, and going to a new V class is heading towards $100k! Can't find a suitable replacement, must carry 8 adults and luggage, tow 2000Kg or more, would really like it to be under 1900mm tall, diesel and would like 4wd, so I intend to keep it for now. Not sorry I bought it. Update July 2019, in the last 4 years have repaired the following: 1 failed glow plug, not that important in Australia but replaced anyway.

Worst vehicle I've ever owned!
I've owned 8 vehicles, mostly new like the Vito, or demonstrators and the Vito has had more issues than the other 7 vehicles combined! Appalling quality, and the Benz owned Melbourne Australia dealership can't even fix some of the faults after 4 years! Buy any other van, rather than a Vito. I can't wait to offload this one in a few months time and I'll never touch another Benz.
Good car, really LOVE it
I only had 2 problems with my 2004 115 2.2 cdi and never one major problem. Its parts was real cheap if you take what you get out of the car. But i won't buy it new, the car's value will fall with about half in the first year so its much cheaper to buy secondhand. On its feul economy i would recomment it, much better than any in its class. Have done more than 982098 km on mine but probebly need a new one now an will buy mb vito again!!! It is very relaible and never left me standing in the middle of nowhere.
Once broke a universal joint(my own fold, driven up a bad mountain road) Once broke a door handle and struggeld for 2 weeks because I couldn't get one, at least found one on a scrapyard.
Worst. Van. Ever.
If you feel like your life is too problem-free and that you have excess money to burn, then you should own the Vito. My experience with this van has been horrific. From the first day it has given me nothing but problems. Poor body work, engine problems, components breaking off and not working, warning lights constantly coming on for no reason. Mechanics don't even want to look at it! The van no longer recognizes my key and needs new computer system, along with front-end suspension work and a new hydraulics compressor (€2,700). Now I own this titanic garbage bin and have to *pay* to get rid of it at a total loss. I will never own another MB vehicle!
Numerous quality issues, both power windows went, had to replace window regulators, Would no longer recognise the key - needed a new EIS $1500, Clutch jammed needed new clutch and flywheel - $2000. Parts are horrendously expensive regular service base is $700 but usually ends up being $1000. Now the diff is making bad noises.
115 Cdi lwb 2006 8 seater
I have done 228,000kms have not had any major problems with it at all just little things like brake pads,rotors, but then again it done a lot of driving too, it's sad to read sll these complaints as it is a great reliable van for me and my family.. We Also have a great mechanic if anyone lives in Brisbane and wants his number let me know, my parents are just about to buy 3 more for there business..
I will admit Mercedes service bad they say they do things and you find out later they didn't.. Once again we have an awsome mechanic that has saved my parents heaps and atleast you know the jobs been done and properly..
Mercedes customer service is pathetic which is such a shame
I bought my my 2011 SWB Vito new love it. It gets excellent fuel economy between 7.3-7.8 L/100km and needs very little maintainence, Carries everything I need for my painting business. I have done approx 70,000km in the past 17 months and will buyanother one when the trade in price matches the payout figure. I had a hilux run up the back of my van and got a rental van, iLoad. I am so glad I spent the extra $5000 and bought a Merc. iLoad has worst suspension ever and guzzled fuel, 14L/100km

Recently I bought 2013 Vito 122CDI it’s V6 engine with 52000 km on the clock. Drives smooth.
It has just 3 months dealers warranty as the parts and repairs are very expensive I’m thinking of buying 3 years extended warranty.
I asked from MB mechanic, his reply was “ it’s just waste of money”
Plz put on the right direction which warranty company I go with which has more coverage as I’m not in the position to spend a huge $$$ on parts & repairs.
Your knowledge and advice would be highly appreciated.

I just bought a v class Merc 87000klm on clock
I told the dealer I don’t want the 3000 warranty they will always find a way to to say it’s not covered!
So I’m taking a gamble with a van that can do 500000 Klms same engine and gearbox
So u didn’t have any extended warranty?
Would you suggest one if you or your friends had buying extended warranty before?
Dont bother the insurance wont pay out when u try to claim and engine and gearbox are superior to VW
Keep the money in your pocket for small repairs most parts are on ebay
