Merlin MT5580P

Merlin garage door motors – Terrible garage Motors. Totally crashed after three years and needed to be replaced. Says it has a 7 year warranty but they told me it was invalid because I didn't service the unit. Should have read the fine print. I put in a cheaper brand at my previous house and it worked for 15 years without missing a beat. Don't waste your money with trust brand.
Opens fully every now and then – It doesn’t fully open more times than it fully opens had the first service and opened a few times but soon went back not to opening. Will never have another one.
Faulty product – We bought a new remote door opener from Merlin. The product itself was faulty and we tried calling customer service but they did not help at all. Be careful before buying one of Merlin’s product. It was cheap and nasty. They complete sealed the back and we are unable to open it.
Almost never works on the first click – When we bought our house, the garage door clickers we inherited were Merlin. This was in 2015 They worked fine for the most part, but eventually started to die. That's fine. But both our replacements have been nothing but trouble. We thought the button batteries may have needed replacing, so did that. Made no difference. We need to tap and click… Read more
them several times before they'll work. The (very dangerous) button battery has also fallen out of the back of mine twice. We have two young children, so this is not safe nor acceptable. Will not buy Merlin again.
Good Life expectancy for the Merlin MT5580P – My garage had the Merlin MT5580P installed in May 2009. It has never been serviced. It died in April 2018. (9 years good service) It did give warnings though. For the last few weeks the motor has been groaning, and if I had done a service on the door and springs, the life of the motor would have been extended, but I didn't realise that, until… Read more
the importance of the springs was explained to me today.
I am getting a new one installed next week, but the MT60 (at $506 with 5 yr warranty), as it seems the MT5580P is no longer supplied by the dealers.
Top product – I bought a Merlin garage door opener off eBay. Cost around $300. Fitted it myself to a heavy, sectional, double garage door. It is fantastic. Been on for three months and no issues. Great price, easy fit, reliable and highly recommended.
Cheap And Nasty – We bought a brand new Merlin garage door opener which broke down right outside of the 2-year warranty. A serviceman replaced the circuit board inside and it worked again. A day later, the door won't open. Now I have to wait again for ages to have the right part sent in. Seriously, I'm thinking of just buying another brand and replacing this heap of junk.
