Just copes with 3/ 4 showers day if quick and one lot of dishes .. if Power goes out you have to reset it , had mine just on two years and now I have to keep manually setting to heat water ,it will cost me travel tine plus parts and labour costs. Not happy as i live130 ks away from nearest service centre.
A great power saver
We have had our Midea operating for a year now The installers were great, took away the old unit and all the packaging. Any issues later were quickly dealt with. Unit ran quietly and smoothly with adequate hot water for our needs, couldn't be happier with the product
noisy, sucks power like crazy, fan almost constantly running. leaking water worried about my power bill now

The noise from the pump is driving me crazy!
I wish I had stuck with my old hot water service! Now that the weather is cooler the pump is going a lot and I find the noise annoying. Is anyone else finding this?

Very Poor Service backup
Product is ok but Chromagen service back up is poor. If you have an issue with your hot water unit on the weekend, they will charge you $275 even if its under warranty for labour and parts. Not very ethical company

Fantastic unit to get us off gas.
We had this installed 2 days ago. It's a very cool looking unit and makes as much noise as your fridge, 48 decibels. The quality looks good and the plumber and sparky said that the unit is high quality and that they have never had a call out to fix one, in their experience. They also said not to worry about setting the timer as to let the thermostat regulate the compressor cycles, as to have constant hot water. Each to their own, but I'm just doing what they suggested for now. The annual running costs for the heat pump will be under half of wha...t our old gas storage used according to the 'Australian energy foundation' website. I'm pretty pleased about that. We're climate conscious, so it was a good step to make our home gas free. Natural gas is methane which, when burnt releases CO2. Also, I believe that gas prices will always rise in the future, whereas power and renewables will continue to fall. Note that if you wish to swap out an old gas storage unit, you will need a new 20 amp circuit and cable, run in from your fuse box to the unit itself. In Victoria, the Midea 170 cost us $999, with an added cost of $70 to take the old unit away. If you have an existing Electric hot water unit, your total cost for the installation and the unit will be Zero! I wish that I knew about these things years ago.

Rapid heat up, minimal noise, small spatial footprint and energy efficient. Easy to use, and relatively low cost. Very happy. Sits on a big hill in a coastal environment so harsh setting.

Wished we install the 300 lt the same as we had which was a excellent heat pump but only lasted 4 years. Went with the smaller one as recommended but notice our power bill went up.Sales people say it would do 4 people it would struggle. A little disappointed.

Best thing that we have done
We have 2 x 170 litre systems, one for the house & one for Granny flat. Best thing we have done, never run out of water. On a 6 degree night with the grandkids staying over the water temperature got down to 41 degrees, by morning it was back up to 61 degrees. I was impressed.

No hot water to en-suite
The hot water service it replaced was working perfectly, lovely hot water throughout the house.
Now no hot water, none to the en-suite. No need to use the cold water tap anywhere in the house.

Wish I'd heard about it sooner
Was contacted by the hot water company a few months ago and was put onto this new type of system and have noticed a massive difference on my latest quarterly bill. easily saved myself nearly $200 and only thing I've changed is my hot water system. work great for myself, the hubby and two teenage girls, havent run out of water once yet! wish I'd know about this years ago lol

Poor Quality: Won't last long term
I purchased this unit in 2014, the system has worked well since then and is economical. Where it falls short is the build quality, at this point all exposed plastics are degraded, the top lid of the unit warped within the first few months. After 5 years all the seals are degrading and cracking, same with the top of the unit. It is still working for now but having spoken to plumbers and had a visit, the seals cannot be fixed. Dealing with Chromagen they simply sent someone out to visit who charged for the site visit (no advice from Chromagen tha...t this would occur) and their plumber blames the original installer. Hard to prove this 5 years on, especially when the seals are faded and cracked. Original installer and inspector just advise to purchase a new unit, was told earlier units had bad UV rating but doesn't help me now! Avoid and pay a bit more for a better unit.

Gift horse / mouth
This hot water heater came as a nice gift from the government.
The heater services 3 adults in an off grid environment for 8 months of the year. The other 4 months I run a parallel instantaneous lpg gas heater (winter).
The 250 rheem electric it replaced for us used 12 kwh per day. The Midea uses 6 kwh on eccon and 6-8 on hybrid. The saving on power is not important to us during summer, however on the shoulder months when energy generation is limited it makes a significant difference. also saving money as not using lpg. This heater is an eff...
