At July 2019, 94 000Kms and brought new as a runout model 2015. Towed 2.4 tonne caravan for 30 000 of these kms. At 85, 000 ISH noticed power loss issues that turned out to be a badly carboned inlet manifold and turbo as well. Mechanic described engine at time as having emphysema. Extremely poor fuel economy as well.
Also issues with clutch, but have lived with issue for 50 000 kms (started to overheat on a moderate but extended climb with the caravan) and needs to be replaced very soon.
Disappointed with hill starting while towing carav...
Great car would never be without my ute.
Bought My 3.5Lt Petrol Triton in 2007 new from the manufacturer (worked for them from 1971-2008) and never has any major problems apart from the paint, had to get the bonnet and wheel arch flares repainted, done just over 100,0000 and will be going in for a new timing chain. I have the car service on time and the car has never let me down Had to replace the Manifold it got a small crack in it replaced it with extractors which improved the performance. overall very happy with the car preforms well off road and tows my van without any problems.
I have owned my 2010 triton for the last 5 years. Purchased with 80,000 on it, It now has 290,000. The only things I have replaced are an air flow sensor common problem and replaced at 200,000 and shockys at 240,000. I service every 5000 and would highly recommend a triton to anyone. I tow a trailer regularly and drive long ks daily and the ute handles everything I have thrown at it.
Worst fuel economy ever..
I bought my MQ after owning an old Pajero for many years. The label on the window read 7.3l/100km. Now I k is I will never get that but I'm using 100% more than that on the freeway. And the dealer wont help. Don't by one they are crap...
Great car but poor audio
Car audio keeps dropping in and out of Bluetooth seriously want to change systems but not sure of audio screen size and what can be compatible as I’m not feeling the system that is stock standard and have had numerous reports of this same issue
Good all rounder
09 MN .I brought my ute new and have have done 193000 km .I have had an injector failure at 17000 but was replaced by dealer.i have had a 3rd gear problem at 100000 .again sorted by the dealer.it is very comfortable as a daily driver and a great weekend 4wd.i have after market shocks and wheels ,bullbar ,canopy was originally an Mitsubishi one but it warped on the sides and was replaced by the dealer with a ARB model.overall it is solid and reliable now after some teething problems being the new 2.5motor in 09.i have fitted a catch can and had ...the sludge cleaned out internally.i would not buy a new one as they are plastic all over and not as tough as the old ones.with regular services and a little mechanical sympathy it will last me another 10 years i hope.i tow regularly a tandem trailer and it pulls very well now I have fitted a throttle controller. Good luck.
Cheap for a reason.
Bought 2016 dual cab manual brand new $35k (with extras) and with in 40000km:
-Drivers side outside door handle fell off. Literally fell off. Dealer said it had just been shaken loose!
-Rear suspension bushes wore out after 20000kms.
-Stereo only connects to my ipod sometimes and only after approx 3 minutes.
-Gutless as buggery. Overtaking anything is scary as hell.
-Rides like youre an epileptic in a washing machine.
-Traction control takes years to kick in.
Although i dont consider $35k as cheap,it is compared to the other manufactures.
Even so, dont buy these Thailand made, plastic, poorly designed things.

Good car but
Purchased a 2018 Triton Gls recently. Had a 2016 model that was written off in an accident.
Really liked my 2016 model so went straight back to this model. A good work horse car for my job for the price paid.
A couple of things I find annoying in this model is the reversing camera is poor compared to 2016 model. To change radio station like most car these days you use the arrow on steering wheel, not his model all touch screen.
Find it strange that a newer model car wouldn’t have this when older ones do. Basically have to take your eyes off...the road ever time you want to change station. Very annoying and unsafe. Tail gate also wouldn’t shut properly but easily fixed by adjusting brackets, which you should have to do on a 40k car. Fuel consumption also average so far coming up to 1500km and need to full car up for a 4th time which seems odd.
BUYER BEWARE - customer service shocking
Bought new triton 2013 - 40,000 ks on the clock. Over heating with numerous breakdowns took us ages to get results finally we got a new motor. Fast forward to 2018 same problem with 2nd motor. Had to basically fight for assistance had fair trading involved they replaced with a short motor but could not tell us why we were having problems . Not confident with this as we has almost been killed several times as the car would only overheat on freeways after several hours and would loose power so travelling 110 km would drop down to 40 km stranded ...on side of highways with B double trucks screaming past you is something you don't forget. After breaking down 12 times in total we asked for a refund or a new vehicle Mitsubishi claimed that we had aftermarket items on the car and said that they would not deal with us. DIRTY TRICKS......... What type of company would leave us like that we purchased a new car and in less than 5 years had 3 motors. We gave up after 7 months of fighting. We have lost so much money as it was a work vehicle we mentally can not fight any more. Yes they won. I sincerely warn any potential buyer not to buy Mitsubishi !
2017 MQ VRX (Kiwi Exceed),4x4 Auto
In 2017 the cost was NZ$47K with factory accessories i.e. front nudge, sports and tow bars, bonnet guard, deep floor mud mats, tub liner and soft tonneau cover. It has the 10 year warranty and is serviced every 15,000kms as per the service book.
I commute daily and travel approx. 28km per day. I have fitted an iDrive throttle controller which seems to supress the very dangerous turbo lag on take off from intersections.
The HID headlamps are a let down being a poor design. They wobble about going over bumps, great low beam with good cut off ...

I use my car to go to work everyday and I also used it when I moved house was great the tray had everything in it from a gas oven to coffee machine. The Ute is serviced according to the log book and my mechanic always says it a tough car that takes a beating
Loving the Triton
I use this car for mainly commuting to work (140km round trip), hasn't missed a beat and is quiet comfortable. I've done 45,000km's so far. I recently did a road trip towing a camper van weighing 1.6t, overall combined weight was 4.06t. I started from Geelong around the East coast to Woolongong, through the Blue Mountains and home. I covered 3000km's drove around some windy and mountainous roads. The Triton performed well and exceeded my expectations.
It does have a few annoyances such as Bluetooth phone volume not loud enough, the passenger...
Ordinary at best
2011 Triton was bought to tour Australia, bout it early to have it ready for the big trip it had done 20k Klms around town before we started the preparations to have it ready to go , by the time we left it had 60kKlms and now we are stuck in Alice springs with a blown motor and Mitsubishi have decided the diesel injector was the problem and as such there is no warranty , 98k Klms and all we have is a paperweight, and no way to get back to Brisbane
Great Reliable Little Truck
I have owned my Triton since March 2009. It has been reliable with fuel consumption consistently less than 9 L/100KM and having clocked over 160,000km. It has the 2.4 L Turbo Diesel engine with an alloy trayback and although the engine sounds small it has fantastic torque. I have taken this vehicle through Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory several times and never felt like the truck was going to let me down. The traction system is second to none and is, in my opinion, better than competitors. I also use it regularly to tow my 5 meter boa...t over various roads including heavily corrugated roads in the middle of nowhere as I search out a new launching for the boat. I am looking at replacing the vehicle in the next couple of years either with another Triton or, due to family reasons, a Pajero, but in either case it will be another Mitsubishi. I would highly recommend the Mitsubishi Triton to any bloke or lady out there who want a reliable vehicle.
Cheap that’s it
I purchased my 2013 MN Triton December 2013. I have had the following issues whilst within warranty period
3 new steering wheels (replaced under warranty) latest has failed and now out of warranty
2 new clock springs (replaced under warranty) latest has failed and now out of warranty
1 new drivers seat belt (replaced under warranty) latest has failed and now out of warranty
2 rear door window runners and guides because of rust
First time owning a DC ute so some of these issues may be common to all. Be prepared for a harsh ride unless it's loaded – I understand the Triton to be the most 'car like', I would hate to spend a lot of time in the others.
As for the Triton, HID Headlights are woeful and shake over bumps – you'll need additional lighting. Passenger seat shakes when unoccupied and you have to tuck the seatbelt flat or it rattles horribly.
Tall passengers in the rear may be very close to the roof.
There is not much information available from the dash and to cy...
I love my uts triton, very economical and fast car. Its never let me down. I use the car for work only, first start and drive to customer with out letting me down. I recommending it to all friend.
Great value but average product
Great value in theory, however felt underwhelming. Made sense on paper, however after driving it for 6 months it felt like a budget vehicle mechanically (undercarriage rattles and turbo lag) and the interior is poor- not much better than a Toyota in terms of quality. Ended up selling in 6 months for a different make.
Worst car I've ever had the displeasure of driving!
This is our work vehicle. It does several hundred km/week.
It is the 2.5L Turbo Diesel RWD model with an auto gearbox. All of that combines to make it the WORST and most dangerous vehicle I've even been in.
At an intersection, this thing is absolutely gutless. Even with your foot flat it can take 4 or more seconds to get to anything more than walking pace. On an uphill incline, it can be twice that and then the turbo kicks in and all you get is wheel-spin due to having no weight at all in the back.
At an intersection in the wet, it can be down...
