Navman iCN 510

Good – Because the iCN 510's speed camera data is unreliable, I got a Uniden GPS301 road safety warning system which now sits next to the iCN 510. Now, between the two of them, I get the best of both worlds: Good map visuals, and up-to-the-minute, accurate speed camera and blackspot warning data. Neat, compact, clever, lower price range for these things. And considering the funtionality, it's great value for money. Excellent, clear, easy to read on-screen representation of maps. Frequently the voice directions contradict the map directions, i.e: voice says "turn right" when a left turn is indicated on the map. Outdated maps (some roads which are 3 years old are not shown). Very infrequent map updates from Navman. Dangerously patchy speed camera data. Slow startup - takes 3-4 minutes to find satellites. (my Garmin takes about 30 seconds, my Uniden takes about 20 seconds). When looking up street names, the type is so big the screen can only show the first few letters, so you have to guess the rest of the streetname and the suburb. That is a very fundamental design flaw which should have been fixed a while ago.
OK – Great little navigator, but they (Navman) need to get there act into gear if they continue to sell upgrades each and every year. The Navman has proven invaluable, easy to handle, was a greta assett whilst in France recently. Just purchased ver.3.5 and have lost local data relating to where I live. Navmam (Sydney) blame the mapping people whom they get the maps from??? The M7 in Sydney does not appear
