Make sure you can get great reception before buying.
I have found this unit will not hold a signal. Easy to set up and great to have ethernet port for PC. I tried to improve with 9db aerial but still drops out and locks up requiring a battery removal to reset. I put the sim in an old Samsung neo and had good result with hotstopping to devices.

This modem was purchased to facilitate streaming, on a Mobile Broadband account and has not let us down at all. It worked out of the box. It is also "blisteringly fast" though that may be due to the Telstra network as well as the modem (> 100Mbps down and >40Mbps up). Connectivity has not been a problem, even with multiple devices connected. The device holds its charge well.

Terrible device laggy and full of bugs
Bought this from telstra and ended up returning it as it’s not suitable for purpose. The UI is laggy and touch screen is unresponsive. Often prone to crashing. The routing function is deplorable when using it as a dhcp server. It cannot properly bond devices when they are connected via 5ghz, 2.4ghz wifi and lan. $380 wasted a cheap router from officeworks does a better job. 4g speeds I got were 20 down 30 up in mentone

Bought it in June. Hasn’t worked properly since day 1. I have tried 2 times by phone for help with no joy. Told I will get a call beck never happens. It freezes regularly & I have to take back off & battery out to get it up & running. Am on hold again while writing this. I live in the bush & not near a local shop. When it works it’s great.

Great when it works
Had this on a plan from Telstra since May. It was shutting down randomly several times a day. The only way to wake it up was to remove and replace the battery - that would trigger the boot sequence, not perfect when in a hurry. I returned it to the Telstra shop but they refused to replace it and gave me Netgear's support phone number. After 20 minutes wait I got to talk to them - they took me through the software upgrade and advised to call Telstra warranty if it still doesn't work. After the upgrade the shutdowns are happening less frequently ...but are still happening PLUS it now intermittently doesn't charge - e.g. this morning I found it empty after a whole night on the charger. Called Telstra warranty - they sent me back to the shop for a replacement. Back to the shop, told them that warranty people requested a replacement, the shop people now happy to take the modem for repair but it will take around a month... Asked for a replacement modem - they don't have one but happy to let me keep mine and call me when they get one - that was last month, still no call. I’ll let you decide on this one. Great 4G mobile router excellent connection speeds
I purchased the netgear nighthawk M2 outright for $410 mainly because I didn't want a contract but I needed the coverage of telstra in remote areas. I upgraded from the Wi-Fi advanced III and the difference in speed is just night and day, in country Victoria I was averaging 157 mbps downloads and 46.6mbps uploads It outdone my nbn connection at home hands down. It has all the bands except 2300 which optus use mainly for its mobile broadband. It picks up network coverage wherever it is available which is pretty much all over australia. It gets t...hrough where other devices and networks I've used in the past have had nothing. And has full info of signal strength, connection, data left so forth on the front 2.4 inch touch screen whereas some of the cheaper ones just have lights to indicate what's happening. It has good battery life and can be used without the battery if your using it at home just plug in the power supply no battery required. However I've noticed battery drain in low signal areas but that's to be expected.Telstra prepaid recharges are a bit pricey but if you need the reliability its worth it. My only gripe is how slow it boots up and the software seems very slow hopefully a update in the future will correct this issue.
