Nikon AF-S DX 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED

Wide Angle DX Zoom – This was one of the first lenses released for the Nikon DX format for digital single lens reflex cameras, and as such was a hugely important one. The build quality and optics are well above normal for an enthusiast lens, almost to the point of being a pro lens. On the DX format the zoom range equates to about an 18 - 36 mm which is very useful to have. You can use it for huge, sweeping panoramas or tight indoor shots, and even use it at the 24mm end for 'normal' shots.
The price was a bit high when new and now there are other options such as the 10 - 24 and the Tokina 11-16, both of which I would recommend over this lens. Pro build quality, useful wide angle range Expensive when new, other options available these days
Excellent – This is the best wide angle to get in Nikon's range if you cant afford the F2.8 wide angle zoom. Unfortunately this lens does cost an arm and you have to justify whether you use this range often. Last thing you want is buying it and collecting dust. This lens is considered to be in Nikon's professional range. The only good competitor is Tokina's 12-24mm which is made pretty high standards and just loose to Nikon's quality just a tad. The price of the Tokina is about half in which may be the better way to go if you do not need a Nikon lense everytime. good professional optics, wide angle lense price?
