Excellent – This is a good Macro Lens but is also in the professional range. Is the only Nikon Macro lense with VR support. Is a fixed focal length of 105mm but is extremly sharp. The downside seems to be the weight but this is due to strong metal housing and mounts on the lens giving a quality finish. It feels like something strong and will not break easily.

A cheaper alternative would be the Tamron 90mm Macro. But this lens is pretty much complete your Nikon lense set. On the note, is the only Macro that will work with a D40 or D40x. Excellent optics, razor sharp, good Macro with VR support. Solid construction Expensive, and a tad heavy
