Nikon Speedlight SB-400

Great little flash – Used to have an SB-600 and downsized for one of these. SB-400 is a very good little flash for around $150. It supports all the TTL functions of Nikon DSLRs and has a bounce function. It also feels very solid and well made, and like all Nikon speedlights has a very fast recycle time. It wouldn't be the first choice for an SLR user but is ideal for the compacts like the P6/7000. Well made, inexpensive, takes AA batteries, fast recycle time

Baby Nikon Speedlight – My experience with the SB-400 has been completely positive. I bought it at a hefty discount as part of a D200 bundle. The size and weight of the flash goes very well with the D200, and I would expect it would also balance well with almost any other Nikon DSLR. It has plenty of power for indoor bounce flash shots, but does struggle a bit outdoors, particularly when you've got a bit a distance between the camera and the subject.

The main advantages over a built in, pop up flash are the faster recycling time and the ability to tilt the flash and bounce it off the ceiling.

One limitation is that the flash can tilt but not swivel, so if you're shooting in vertical (portrait) orientation you will be bouncing off a nearby wall, rather than the ceiling. In practice I did not find this much of a limitation and you probably won't either, unless you happen to have painted the walls of your home red. Small, light, needs only 2 AAs. Tilt only, no swivel.

Excellent – I love this product I'm no profesional but it has made a massive difference to my photos. Especially as I am constanly shooting photos of my baby inside where the lighting is not always good. If your also shooting a lot of photos indoors in low lighting I would definatley suggest this product. -Compact. -Will massivley improve your photos. -Excellent build quality and performance.

-So easy to use.

-Bounce light.

-Fast recycling. -Can only flip light up not side to side so if you are holding camera sideways you cannot flip the flash sideways to bounch the light off the ceiling.

-Thats all I can think of.
