This car's been my rock
Bought my d22 3.0l turbo diesel dual cab ute 4wd brand new in 2002. It has been awesome as a tradies ute, reliable and always enough power. Never had any issues (except blown injector pump from dodgy diesel which was repaired by insurance). I've tried many times to upgrade to a new ute but i just cant let go of my trusty and ever so reliable d22 because i fear their's nothing out there as reliable.
Nissan Navara d22 Str
Purchased The Str d22 brand new in 2010, so far so good.. Mechanical no issues, 128.00ks on the clock.. The only thing that has let it down so far is the ride comfort.. Very bouncy and rough.. In 4wd climbs hills with ease, I'll hopefully have it for a few more years
had 4 d22 2x3.2 1x3 lt now 2.5 done over 1000000km never done a motor diff clutch or gearbox only trouble is front end susp and wore out a lot of tyres 2.5 is 2015 plate done25000 since may hope its as good as the others wish they still made them
'02 3 Litre Turbo Diesel purchased around '08 with 80000km now (210000)
In approx 7 years of owning this dual cab I have been very happy with it. Apart from burning out 2 turbos @ approx $1500each (is on the 3rd) since I got it I have had no other problems, really apart from one flat tyre :) & I just drive it without really looking after it properly-overdue services again, oops- Mostly use it on road/going to work, (but does some rough off road/sand/mud when time). One downside is the old leaf springs which make for a slightly rough ride on longer trips but with just shy of 700km per tank of diesel (75litre) of d...iesel I am not complaining too much! It is good all round cheap to run 4x4 for bashing about the bush, carting rubbish/relocating house for many people & also (with a clean) for going out on the town with the family (5 seater).. I love this Nissan & do not want to part with it & I am faithful it will see me out for another 7 years or so :)
Update on "burnt by Nissan"
After 97,000 kilometres our motor 'packed in' and we had to get another motor, costing $12,000. This has taken all our savings as pensioners, it will take more than our lifetime to replace these savings. Our confidence has totally gone with our car but we can not afford to update to a new/different vehicle. If we weren't cheated out of 5 months of our warranty we would have been able to fix our problem and not use all our savings.
191000ks 6 years and counting
purchased brand new in 09. Got nissan to install cruise control for about $400 and thats all. Nearly decided to upgrade, but have decided against it, I want to know how many k's it will do! At 150000 replaced the clutch and wacked on a snorkel on our third set of tyres just this week, brakes got replaced at about 140000, All shocks now need replacing, Have towed, carried all sorts of stuff. Am getting it chipped, 2 inch lift. Has been the best vehicle we have ever had. Stock standard and we have really tested it, taking it everywhere. I think i...t was the first year they put in the 2.5Ltr engine. Maybe when the two kids ( 6 and 3) get a bit older they might need more room in the back but for now they are fine. I highly recommend this ute as it has never let us down.
Going well,3 years 76000 Km
When new in 2012 mine was very sluggish, the throttle had a mind of its own and a buzz started in the central dash area that took two services to have repaired. But, its better than I thought on fire trails and light off road work, travels well and tows two ton compressors no problems. Also the motor got more pulling power after 25000 Kilometres.
Apart from getting knocked around at work, and me reversing into a tree, its proving to be quite a good little car. I went from a Hilux to this car purely because it was cheap, and they have been around a long time, friends had a great run out of there's so why not.
put manuals into low gear before backing trailers up hill then clucth wont burn out .same in confined spaces when pushing or pulling a fair weight,i to burnt out my clutch was replaced only had 2500 klm on great car a little under powered but for 29,000 irt does the job in comfort
Bought vehicle brand new 03, dual cab STR 3L turbo diesel. Overserviced vehicle by changing oil every 5K were recommended is 10K and looked after it as it owed me over 50K with extras. In 5 years that I owned it the vehicle spent 9 months at nissan getting repaired. All things listed were repaired under warranty which shows that nissan acknowledged problems with all these items, lucky i opted for the extended warranty. The local nissan dealer was hopeless and nissan australia was no better infact they were rude. I was very dissapointed with the...product,service and nissan, no point in having a 4x4 if you cant trust it. The day it run out of warranty I sold it. OK on fuel, good power Massive Problems, started with first wheel alignment rear diff was misaligned nissan acknowledged problem and fixed it with offset pins for front shackle mount. Rear diff blew at 20K, front diff blew at 40K. Air con compressor blew at 30K. Rear main seal started leaking 45K replaced 4 times and still leaked. Engine blew up 80K. Cracked chassis 86K - that was the major problems there was more than that...

Navara STR 2014
Bought new 2014 STR and now had for 3 weeks, awesome! Nissan dealer intro me to service dept ect, great customer service, very responsive. Dealer also threw in tub liner and mats as part of the deal which included tow ball and steel bull bar. Very basic 4x4 but does come with pwr windows, side mirrors and hands free. Hey,what do you expect for the $28,000 on road paid. Did have to have central locking included for $250 (cost) but hey, I aint complaining!
I test drove the ST auto and despite it having more luxuries could hear engine through...fire wall, auto shifted like a kids toy and just seemed to lack power, and drove too much like a car. Pretty crap on the ST as the deal $32,000 didnt include tow/bull bar- disappointed all round. Also test drove bottom line triton that I didnt even want to drive out the yard it was so basic and crap, I reckon the indicators noise would be enough to drive me banana's!! Wouldn't touch Holden colorado given all the bad reviews I have read along with the ST Navara. Ford, Isuzu and Toyo too dear for me given I wasn't prepared to finance and don't run a business for tax adv! My brother is boilermaker and has a 08 STR and flogs crap out of it, carting all kinds of stuff in it and behind it including a massive mobile welding set up... and it takes it, and just keeps hammering away. One tough ute and no kids toy!! Mind you, my STR will have a very blessed life with me, but I have seen enough to appreciate what its capable of. Do not underestimate the Navara STR she is tough. For the price, I did not find anything on the market that compared! Cheer, Paul
STR D22 tough car
Bought my 2010 D22 new back in 2011. Almost 4 yrs old next month and is one tough car. Taken it out to Thargomindah, several times to Roma and Injune. Only problem I had which Nissan picked up during a service was a cracked diff. They were happy to replace it even before I asked who is paying for it me or them. Got the car at a great price for $29,500.
I wouldn't touch the d40 models. My boss has one has troubles with the gearbox due to towing but it's an automatic. If your going to do some hardcore towing I would go a manual.
I would r...ecommend a D22 only downside is the cab space. I have a car seat in the back and fits comfortable but wish we had more space. I have only done 55,000kms so far so that's maybe why I haven't had much problem just yet. Hopefully I don't. Am looking at selling the car very soon to buy a prado. But after a trip from Injune as the car doesn't disappoint.
not worth buying it
I have this from 2013. Since then all most every 3 month something goes wrong. Wheel was off when I got it and it fixed on 1st week. Missing nut or small part or door and took 2 month toget it. Speedometer drops dead but could fault problem so I took video then they replace unit this took all most year and I have droop my car about 4times.
horn was not working when I needed so got replaced. One of back light getting burned out 4 times last 10 month and I have to pay for it so I got led since then no problem. This ute can not hold 400kg on ...

Best 4x4 owned
Theres a few problems with the navara review here. There is the d22 navara and d40 navara, . a 2.5 turbo deisel engine and the 3ltr zd30 engine.People need to clarify which of these cars or motors they have before constructing reviews.
I personally have a 3ltr turbo diesel navara d22. The nissan patrol which shares the same motor has quiet a few problems due to running a different turbo set up. The zd30 navara d22 has proven to be one reliable motor, check out the navara asia website for more details. My d22 has now done 300000k of towin...
Ks an issue?
I am looking at purchasing a 2009 STX R Sport with 116,000Ks. I have owned diesels before with in excess of 300,000K and still going strong.
From the reviews I have read it seems the majority of issues occur either from brand new up to 80,000ks.
Do you think 116,000ks is high and a risky purchase? (price is relective of Ks) My gut feel is that by 100,000 most major issues would have been rectified.
2009 D22 Great car!
This has been a fantastic car and has given me no problems. I used it to tow horses (about 2 tonnes in total), drive around town and on freeways and have always felt safe and comfortable. It feels like a car inside - not a truck. For its size its pretty economical and I actually get about 8.7L/100km with the diesel in suburbs/highway driving. It can take a while to get to maximum speed on the freeway, but once you're there - you're going! Its not too bad to park considering its size and its easy to send the end of the back when I stick my ...head out of the window. The only thing to be careful of is when was tray was empty, the back could fishtail if I went around corners too fast in the wet. I highly recommend this car. Reliable, safe and economical
Absolute rubbish car! Do not buy one!! Has had back diff replaced under 1000km, gearbox replaced as would not go in and out of 4wd, now 2 months out of warranty and front diff gone and not covered. Nissan have no customer service and couldnt care less that there cars are rubbish. When you pay$37000 for a brand new car you expect it to not have these problems! My husband lost weeks of work from our own business while the [censored word removed] thing was being fixed each time! Now to find the money to fix the diff when it has only been used for ...4wd half a dozen times and nothing heavy duty! I have done much research about this issue and funny that it seems to be a common problem with them, Nissan need to fix the problems, instead of ripping people off with a [censored word removed] product!! If you are even thinking of buying a navara google navara differential problems and read all the problems and Nissan never coming to the party and always blaming the consumer! Shame on you Nissan Problem after problem, bad customer service by Nissan, there is no quality in the car
nissan navara or also called the frontier
You all should be happy with the fuel milage you are getting I have a 2001 Nissan frontier with a supercharged v6 gas engine. The fuel economy is about 200 miles to the tank. I am thinking about doing a engine swap to the 4 cylinder turbo diesel. Witch you have to understand the more milage you drive a diesel the more the internals seal and get better fuel economy. If. U think I am joking here are pictures.
Great little work horse
Bought the D22 brand new in 2011 and it has been awesome, very punchy 2.5 common rail turbo diesel, just done 40000 km and fuel consumption is decent pulling a 800 kg camper trailer I get around 10.5 - 11 L/100 km, around town we actually get around 9 L/100 km. We have had two very minor warranty jobs that the dealer fixed very quickly with no issues at all.
I have upgraded the suspension 2"OME, with an ARB bull bar and Winch and Nissan snorkel all of these mods are for touring, stock standard the Ute is just as good.
We have been on 4 b...ig off road trips so far with out any issues, not crazy stuff - Holland track was easy towing a camper trailer and the car performed flawlessly. This is a very capable touring ute for two adults and two dogs, the only issue is the very limited passenger space, lucky we don't have kids...yet Off Road the little car is a beast - amazing on soft sand steep hills and bog holes, it goes where I point it. for a cheap tradie Ute, this car is brilliant, it is plain and very simple with no frills, but perfect for what I need now. for some one wanting a no mess no fuss simple Ute, this is the perfect ute. very reliable + strong engine, great fuel consumption, amazing off road and on road. Passenger space is terrible Im 6ft 4 and cannot fit in the back at all.
