My sons 1999 pulsar will not start sometimes, its like you are trying to start it in Drive but it is in park. Seems to happen once it has been driven a while and when the car cools right down it starts again. Took it to mechanic they checked battery, alternator and starter motor all were ok. Anyone have any ideas ?

I had the same problem on a VH Commodore many years ago. It was the lead supplying power to the starter motor. As the cable heats up, it's resistance increases. This is why it starts after cooling down. Hope this helps, Mark.

my nissan pulsar 1996 has been sitting for 3 months now, just took it for a drive and it sounds like a subaru engine. it bangs and blows out black smoke and it hops when you accelerate like its running out of fuel. whats happening anyone know?

Could be stale fuel, or a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor. Search on Youtube to clean the MAF, if that doesn't do it, drain the tank and replace the fuel.

Hi Rossy

Did you check for Engine Oil Level.... Is you gear shifting easy, smooth or hard when engine is off ... Is your clutch plate new.... there are many factors that has to be considered... ask for help from service center.

Thanks

Kris

My daughter has a 1998 Nissan pulsar auto that will not go into reverse or 3rd and 4th gear. I was thinking maybe auto transmission cable, no sure, can someone help?

brian
brian

Yeah / even though it could be a minor problems such as the gearbox needing new oil my suggestion is you take it to a Nissan Australia workshop or to a trustworthy, honest and reliable transmission specialist.

Never know a mechanical repairs workshop might even be able to help you if the other 2 options fail or it could even have something to do with the electrics such as the onboard computer in which case a auto electrician shop might be able to help you

Hi Nigel, I have exactly the same problem. What was the solution with your car?

Does the 1998 nissan pulsar have central locking or keyless entry?

Alegria
Alegria

yes to both - on my model at any rate, which I am trying to figure out now - It is either the N15 or N15 Plus, however there is also the N1511, LX, and LX N1511, so I guess the specs will vary depending which model you buy

The 1998 Nissan Pulsar SLX is a 1.8 litre or just under 1800cc in a 4 cylinder 4 speed automatic transmission or 5 speed manual.

Over-Heating problem, had60% blocked radiator, fixed that, not over-heating now but, problems with radiator either not sucking back water (from over- flow bottle) into radiator, or its constantly over-flowing into the bottle, the water in the bottle is always 2 inches above the max level! Car has been to 3 companies to fix problm, no luck! Their opinion is a cracked head, they cant find it after 6 hours of pressure testing, but assure me this is a common fault/problem with my N15 SLX 1998 model! I've been told by all 3 to just drive it till it breaks down or boils again! HELP PLEASE! What do i do?

brian
brian

If you have already took it to Nissan Australia workshop just keep trying different trustworthy honest and reliable mechanical shops

brian
brian

You could try taking the car to a mechanic that's been at it for about 20 to 30 years or so and they will be able to listen to the engine to see what's going on with it / alternatively you could try taking the car to a radiator specialist or if it doesn't get fixed in the end perhaps you could ditch the car altogether not risk you and passengers and just buy a different model of car

brian
brian

You know another option what you could do is buy another new engine and put it on there though it would be good to put all new electronics and a new gearbox while you are it it

brian
brian

Sorry I was meant to write a gearbox cog not a whole gearbox though it wouldnt hurt to put a whole new gearbox in that's if you can afford it

brian
brian

It's best not to leave it / I wouldn't mind knowing how you went with the problem

brian
brian

You could also try rebuilding the engine or or even better put in a new engine and while you are at it possibly you could put a new transmission cog and replace the electrics

brian
brian

You could also try just having the heads replaced anyway even if they can't find the problem though if you can afford it rebuild the whole thing / I think a rebuild or another engine sounds better or you could ditch the car altogether and buy a better newer car if you like
