It literally fell apart!
My parents bought a brand-new X Trail in 2011. This car was immaculately looked after. Driven like an old man, kept incredibly clean inside and out, it was serviced before it’s due dates… nine years later, that’s right just nine years later, the transmission explodes. I’m only leaving this review because my dad takes such pride in what he owns and he looks after his things so incredibly well and it broke my heart to see him have to go through the stress and anxiety of having such an expensive machine simply fall apart.
Unrepairable style auto transmission collapsed at 80000k just out of warranty. Throwaway
Air conditioner compressor bearings failed at 11500k. Throwaway
A country car one owner 95% of kms on open road. 5% city driving.
Towing of trailer to tip occasionally.
A shocker of a car.
NEVER EVER AGAIN
Never Buy A Nissan Bad Quality Bad Service Plenty Of Rust ... Yes Rust
Extremely disappointed with car extremely disappointed with nissan extremely disappointed with sutherland nissan . Car problems included rust , interior moulding , faulty seedo cluster , leaking interior when it rains . Unbeliveable !!!! Beware before you end regretting it as well . Worse choice I ever made . Will never buy that brand again . To top it off both nissan and dealer very unhelpful and refusing to carry out warranty work
The most troublesome car I have ever owned!
Nearly 5 months with the engine light on and no cruise control. Repairs not carried out (under warranty) in accordance with the workshop manual. Unable to get genuine spare parts from Japan (diesel particulate filter) so they fitted an after market one. This fixed the problem for a while but then the dreaded engine light came back on again. Three visits and a total of 4 days in the workshop and the problem still not fixed. In the end I was forced to get rid of the car with less than 40000km on the clock before the warranty ran out. Sick of being lied to by the Coffs Harbour Nissan dealership.
2011 Nissan X-Trail Glad to see the back of it
I purchased the 2011 X-Trail TI top of the range brand new in 2012. It was an end of year run out. In the first week the rear main seal failed and left oil on my drive way which is still stained today. Since then over a period of six month it continued to blow fuses which sent the car into limp mode and unable to drive normal. Macarthur Nissan and Nissan Australia were not prepared to offer any real help or support in fact the whole thing was a great joke for them and I would steer clear from this dealer. The car had good fuel economy but that's...about it. It was very uncomfortable and the options in the car car and technology was ridiculous. I could a purchased a 10 year old car with better creature comforts. I would not recommend X-Trail for anyone looking for reliability.
Our 2008 xtrail suited our family beautifully for a couple years. I even promoted the car to a few friends of mine who then went on and purchased one as we liked it so much. (The power of word of mouth!). A definite bearing noise and vibration developed in our car from the CVT gearbox. Nissan Australia told me to take it to my local Nissan servicing department for assessment. Funnily enough they said it was a 'normal noise' even though it 'didn't sound right'. I took it to a gearbox specialist who said the 2 bearings and cvt cluster in the gea...rbox were about to fail. $8000 problem!!!!!! Nissan continued with their hard line approach. Nissan do not want to know you after a car purchase. I wish they would back up a good car with good honest service. I vow to NEVER buy another Nissan. Service is terrible to say the least. About to take my complaint to Claims and Administrative Tribunal to have the problem dealt with once and for all. (Search online, others have had great success). Should have been recalled and fixed like the VW DSG models were. Maybe we have to wait for a Nissan driver to be involved in a accident for that to happen as in the VW case...... Poor performance Nissan.
Diesel Engine needs replacement after 40,000km! Nissan refused to assist $1
Last year we bought a used Tdi T30 Diesel Auto X-trail with much expectation of the quality experienced in previous Patrol and Pathfinder (new) purchases. 1 day in to a trip intrastate (NSW) the engine suddenly developed a noise. Result major engine damage due to failed injector, cracked bearing and damaged crankshaft. Nissan Australia refused to assist $1 in cost of new engine despite known design and manufacturing faults and this vehicle having only 40,000kms on the clock!
Result - No more Nissan's for me or my family. Rather than praising t...
Last Xtrail For me
2012 2.5 35.000 Klms has Bad piston slap Dealer states this is normal at that milage...This is my third and LAST Xtrail..back to Toyotas for me
Dissapointing X trail
we bought an X trail in 2010. A good car to buy if you dont do any 4wdriving.Its just a pretend 4wd. Knocked the underside of the car and did a cv joint. Nissan of course didn't want to know. The suspension is too low to the ground if you do any serious 4w driving. 35.000km and we cant wait to get rid of it!
an annoying whistling sound coming from the dash. Pretend 4wd. Have to dismantle the whole of the back to get at the spare tyre. Only getting 30,000km wear from a tyre.
poor fuel economy
bought for trip to western australia towing a small poptop about 1.3 tonne it returned 19.5liters per 100klm consistley over 12000klm took it to dealer when when we returned with logbook & recs from service stations the only reply was they are a bit thirsty when towing talking to all owners can find to find out if this is normal fuel usage when towing
I will never recommend a Nissan to anyone as Nissan is only interested selling and serving vehicles. They don't believe in upholding warranties or providing good after sales service. This will be my last Nissan.
Good fuel economy for a SUV designed like a brick.
Irreparable oil leak and odd engine sound.I purchased a new Diesel T31 X-Trail in September 2008. Within 4 months had my first problem of a strange noise coming from the engine. Then the EGR valve failed and the vehicle became very sluggish. Apparently engine oil is leaking onto the EGR...

When cold and in first gear I can put my foot to the floor with no revs... so I don’t think it’s the trans... hoping it’s something simple like spark plugs?
