Lazy tax - big time
Just got renewals for my two vehicles, a 2010 Honda CRV and a 2012 Kia Grand Carnival. I am a good driver with a very limited claims history and no recent claims history. I live in a good suburb. One car is garaged and the other kept in the driveway. Both vehicles probably worth less than $10k. In each case the premium was over $1,000, even with "loyalty discounts". Very disappointing. Curiously, one of the vehicles, the older, has a higher premium than last year, the other a lower premium. I feel that I am being screwed for loyalty. I am not willing to pay over 10% of the value of an old vehicle for comprehensive insurance. I will be looking elsewhere. I will when renewals arrive be taking all my other insurances away from them too.
Threatening claims letter, lies and fear based
Had an accident with a car, both cars repaired and resolved with insurance companies then 6 months later received a letter from NRMA Insurance acting on behalf of another vehicle involved in the accident demanding we pay the nominated amount, saying there was previous correspondence, which we discovered wasn't at all sent to us (lies) Letter dated 12 of the month received by post 19 of the month expressing we needed to pay if you are insured by 7 days!!!!! what, they sent the letter and seven days later received hmmmm something is wrong. Spoke ...with a very angry man from claims department who was rude, belligerent, condescending and abrupt - sorry who is the customer here????. So in short after taking the matter further the problem is not with the staff on the floor its management who employ the staff and create the tactics to bring about fear and discourse. I would really think twice before using NRMA Insurance this could be you next or your mother, father, child or friend Bully tactics 2019 is not acceptable.
Do not get Nrma car insurance!
Having never before had an accident in my 30 years I paid an excess but an excess $500 of what I agreed. They tried to make out they were doing me a favour however when I spoke to people actually fixing car they were dishonest. Hence I just changed my insurance. Do not recommend Nrma.
Has taken over a month just to get a quote on my insurance claim
I got into a car accident on the 17th of October (I was at fault) but that is why I pay for comprehensive insurance because these kind of accidents happen. They we're fast with the tow truck with it arriving at 10am the next day to tow my car to the smash repairs. The tow truck man was lovely and gave me a rough idea of what will happen to my car. What isnt lovely is the fact that i it had taken more than 3 week for nrma to say that they had received a quote for the repairs on my car. I had went into the smash repairs 2 weeks after the accident...and they had told me they had sent the quote and was waiting on nrma. I think it's very unprofessional that this whole process has taken over a month and when I ring I just get told their is no update for my car but someone will ring me (which they never do.)
Called the police first, NRMA second.
Insurance is not really about the cost of premiums. Insurance is about being able to rely on your insurer at your time of need. I just had my first car accident in almost 15 years, followed by road rage by the other party. The NRMA customer service officer handled my call with compassion and professionalism and kindly led me through the claim process. I was overwhelmed and distraught - NRMA gave me peace of mind, and that is invaluable. To have someone to support you when you need help, that's what insurance is about. NRMA knows how to do that well.

NRMA is a meagre shadow of its former self.
Made a not at fault claim, was approved and car went to NRMA partner repairer. Car is 3 months old and was rear ended. Collect car, rear bumper is inferior with sun damage, blemishes and rough surface, clearly a secondhand item. Blind spot assist is not working and clips on rear wheel arch have fallen off. The dual exhaust is bent and there is evidence they tried to fix it by replacing one of the two mufflers. Contact NRMA via FB page just like they tell you to do so on this website. Get a reply saying they cant help and for me to call the repa...irer and sort it out myself! Other options included waiting 1-2 days in the hope someone will call me or for me to call them. I cant believe this appalling customer service. I have been with NRMA for 30 years. Mum and dad were too. I guess you no longer care about the customer just shareholders and executive bonuses. Attached are photos. Remember, this is a 3 mth old car and page 22 of the PDS states you should use new parts. I take the car back twice, now they have buffed through the paint and it needs to be resprayed. The assessor has been great, but the service is appalling. Again made arrangements to pick car up today and then get the dreaded call that its still not ready. Car is almost 6 months old now. I am now forced to waste my time through the complaints process to seek compensation. I might ad that the deception continues right here as well. This is not a mediation process at all. The NRMA representatives on here are simply marketing and sales people. They will openly tell you that there is nothing they can do and pass you on. I stupidly have 5 policies with NRMA, being a lifetime loyal customer. I guess Ive learned my lesson....
I am ashamed to be with NRMA
My last day of comprehensive insurance I had a accident which was my fault.
I put claim same day which was Friday and booked the assessment for following Monday, after assessment they booked the repair start next Monday, after dropping the car I received the phone call for smash repair which NRMA put the claim as a pending and they cant start work until NRMA approves the claim!!!
NEMA response was I have to renew my insurance otherwise they not going to approve the claim.
This is the biggest crap I received from company.
My car had insurance ...
Pricy but reliable
I had an accident and I was at fault. I paid the basic excess and didn't have any problem with NRMA. My car was fixed well though most of the repair shops from NRMA list have really low ratings, I could find one with high rating. Booking an inspection took a while they were busy. In the end it was good experience. But the policy is considerably more expensive then the others.
Pathetic and treat their customer like dogs
Been with them over 8 years, haven't claimed in the last 3 years, this years renewal came in, over 30% increase in premium. Wth. Did a few quotes around, some are around half price. Thought they would value their poor loyal customer, so had a online chat, they could not even reduce the premium by more than 20 bucks in year, yup, you see it right, $20 a year. Thats how much 8 year loyalty worth to them. See yah later greedy halfwits. I have switched to another provider and wont be looking back.
After 28 years
After 28 years and an amazing amount of discounts and loyalty rewards they where $ 220 dearer than a comparable opposition insurance company for car insurance BUT I rang them and was told buy a person with a fake American accent that they where unable to give me a better price. I range another company (awarded in 2019 ) and change my 4 policies to them $ 600 pa, difference, so if they give you diamond, platinum or whatever great discount its all just smoke and mirrors. As the old saying goes shop around and keep them honest, cause they will prey on your loyalty, even though they dont repay the same - shame old friend you arent what you use to be ! Surely that after 28 years no other company would be able to get close, guess Im a sucker?
I hope you aren't a victim too.
I've called each day to get an update of a not at fault claim where my car has been declared a total loss due to a rear end collision while stopped at traffic lights. Yet every time i call the NRMA said the smash repairer was having trouble uploading the assessment information. Today being the 11th day since the accident i talked to probably the only competent NRMA staff member who said it was highly likely that the smash repairer was stalling due to impound fees. It's completely inappropriate for such a large insurance company to not make a mo...re concerted effort due to the lengthy delay in even getting an initial settlement figure. Surely they would realise that this sort of behaviour is only making the claims process more expensive on their part due to psychological torment. I'm glad i left this expensive multinational monstrosity and switched to an Australian insurance company with impeccable customer service, they'll get all my business in the future.
Car is still not assessed
All sorted, after five days car was assessed and now just waiting for the payment which I feel will take more than 2 weeks.
Ill keep you guys posted on the whole process.
Frustrated with delays in getting repairs approved
We had had the car in with our repairer since 30 Sep (nearly 4 weeks) and we are still waiting for the NRMA assessor to provide approval so that the repairs can go ahead. Repeated calls have not been able to establish any timeframe for when the assessment will be completed.
No response for two month and unsupportive
Had car incident without my fault. Paid excess fee which can be refundable in future. Didnt get contacted by nrma for 2 month. So i gave a ring then the lady consultant kept request get an address of other party to get excess fee back no mattet what i said. Either nrma and i was not able to get the address. No suggestion given to ne if i asked about reporting to police or switch to another insurance company. She kept saying it is my decision to move insurance com or contract police. I talked to my friend for advice and gave another ring to nrma and a gentleman received my call and explained current situation and suggested me what we can do. Got address from police as suggested by gentlemen. Nrma need to educate staffs
uncontactable unreliable and not supportive complete waste of money
I accidentally scratched someone's car i left my details for them to contact me. I received the insurance forms from the other person's insurance company and i signed and agreed that his insurer would be able to contact NRMA on my behalf to lodge the claim. 1 month has passed and i get another letter from the other person's insurer advising surprise surprise that they cannot get in contact with anyone.
I then try lodge the claim myself online. The website crashes twice. I called NRMA and was on hold for 40 minutes only to be told that I will...be paying a higher fee to get them involved in sorting out the claim. I asked what exactly am i paying for considering i have not lodged anything only to be told everyone pays excess to this sum. I told her that the excess was greater than the quoted repair and she said well you will need to pay this out of pocket.... SO really really i have been with NRMA for over 13 years!!! 13 YEARS!! and paid all these fees, only to again be left out of pocket. The impression i got was that NRMA's time is too precious to sort this out so we will charge you our time to fill in paperwork and transfer money. What a joke and a waste of money NRMA is!! time to shop around to find somewhere else. thanks for nothing.
The comprehensive insurance for my new car was fine for the first year, but on the second year it increased by 18%. NRMA advised it was because I had the "choose any repairer" option, and that my premium will not increase if I let go of that option. So I did. Then on the third year, it went up by 36%! This time they want me to increase my excess to over $2000 if I want to reduce the increase to 18%. The fact that I have maximum no claim bonus and have been an NRMA customer for 20 years with several cars insured by them (including CTP green slip...s) doesn't make any difference. I did a premium comparison on the Service NSW website and found NRMA to be the most expensive insurer. Allianz have the best price. My advice to NRMA customers facing the same dilemma: go with Allianz (or another decent insurer) because NRMA doesn't care once they got you.
If i could leave 0 stars i would.
Had a car accident wasent my fault, called up a day after gave them the police report number, and what towing company my car was held at , towing company called me wondering why nrma didnt come pick up the vechile a week later, 2 days before i was due to pick up my car was told i have to pay 800 excess, due to the police report jst being filed apprantly although they had 4 weeks to sort it out, if i didnt call they wouldnt of bothered to get a copy of the police report, called 4 times , on phone for over n hr got told they cant waive the excess, stood my ground, and micrously he could waive it, useless company, will be choosing another insurer when my policy is up .
unreliable and unsupportive NRMA
I have been using the NRMA comprehensive car insurance policy since 2013. Now, my car has been damaged on the Warringah Freeway because a tradie didnt secure his load properly and fell on my car damaging the front section. He did hit and run, and number plate looks bogus. I provided all the details to the NRMA and the NSW police. I requested a hire car in accordance with the policy, but the different ladies placed my phone call on the hold and then disconnected or transferred to someone where I have to explain my situation from the beginning. ...I was promised a hire car but details never arrived in the email and phone gets placed on hold and then disconnected. I believe the call centre has been moved to overseas lacking urgency, caring attitude and not problem solver.
I have sent numerous emails questioning the increase in my annual policy. The reasons they presented regarding why my policy has increased, do not logically make sense. Instead of actually responding to my emails, they just ignore them. Very unprofessional.
NRMA gave me a blanket statement about parts being harder to source etc as well as other 'reasons'. My car is 4years old and one of the most common vehicles on the road.
If I take into account their 'reasons' for the increase, add on the common sense approach that market value DECREASES and that my details remain the same, logic says policies should stay the same as previous years. Not an INCREASE. From reading other reviews, seems like a lot of other people have the same complaint.
No option to give zero stars
I've been with NRMA for 39 years and have (had) 8 policies with them. A man reversed into our parked car and took out the headlight, indicator and bumper with his tow ball. He tried to drive away but my husband stopped him and spoke to him. After much hassle he made a claim with his insurer, also NRMA but claimed hardship in paying the excess. We are two people living on one aged pension. He has a job. That was June. Its now October and its not resolved. We have rung NRMA 5 times, including to complaints dept. Were twice promised a call back ...within 48 hours. Once waited for > an hour before hanging up. The car is unroadworthy and cannot be driven. Last week we got text saying please ring NRMA about your car and have you contacted your insurer? We only had 3rd party property on that car and the NRMA is/was the insurer. Well not anymore. My husband is trying to ring them now. In the meantime i have cooked and eaten lunch. Just washing up now. What a shame this company has become a hollow joke of its former self. I used to feel they had my back but wouldnt even insure a donkey with them anymore, not that they would notice either way.

Questions & Answers
We have had car insurance with NRMA Insurance for close to 40 years and only had one claim about 20 years ago when a car was stolen. We received full payment of the insurance valuation of the car within a week.
We currently have friends who are checking around different companies for car insurance renewal and they have asked the following question:
* Would they be covered for mice damage to a car?
As we have never had this problem, we are wondering if anyone can respond to this question.
Care TeamNRMA Insurance
Hi Montrose, thanks for the question! Genreally it is covered but it is a case by case scenario depending on how the damage was caused. Reckless damage to the vehicle which then results in mice damage may be an example of when we won't cover it or general wear and tear or maintenance issue. Hope this helps. ~Natalie
