Old is new again...
My JH turntable is 45 years old, it was time for a new one. I have worked in the audio retail industry most of my life so I wanted quality, performance and price to be balanced. After many months of research I settled on the ONKYO in a natural wood finish (look). It's available in black also. In Australia it retails from $889 to it's RRP of $1299. My research took me to the UK eBay site where I landed it in Oz for $ 705. The unit is heavy, this assist in damping outside vibrations. It also has adjustable rubber feet. It is one of the most speed...accurate tables available, even compared to the famous SL1200 Technics. The tonearm is also very similar to a SL1200, this is manufactured by Harpin. The one letdown is the Audio Technics cartridge, it's c.##p! ($25) You will need to use your own or purchase a better one. It has an SME mount headshells allowing for easy interchange of cartridge' s. Note that in the ONKYO and internet descriptions it is always described as having an MDF base but in reality it's actually chipboard. This is not unusual, and it fits the design criteria/ function objectives. I run a large array of speakers and have wooden floors, this has always been an issue with feedback vibration on my previous table, the ONKYO blows raspberries at this issue and plays at all volume settings, a massive plus for me. I fitted a Shure RXT6 cartridge and it all sounds brilliant. 70's style turntable with modern technology. Highly recommended at <$1000.
