Be careful!!! Believe what the others are saying about OPG!!!
A door to door salesman convinced my mum to join up by offering a 35% discount off the rate they charge for the bills(~$10 discount) around last year. Indeed she received them. She used to be billed quarterly with Origin but now she is billed monthly with OPG. Just like 'The King' said 'then our bills TRIPLED!!!!!!!!!' My mum has been paying her bills for around a year now without realising how frequent they were as she has so many other bills to pay. We are now in the process of switching back!
I'll give you guys a clear example of what i ...mean, OPG- $90 every month Origin- $100 every 3 months ($33.3 a month) I believe you 'Alv' when you say 'there are a lot hidden costs and charges!' Just read the other 1 star reviews below which all have a 'Verified Purchase' icon attached to it
Conned into... hard to get out of !!
After an intensive 2 person sales pitch i was told i could get information sent to me after i signed up, etc. etc. we know how that goes... sign up for the product before you get to what it is in writing. I did. Nothing came, no email no info pack and at the last minute my current retailer calls and says did you actually ask for a transfer? I said i did but i was pending info, etc. he said well it's happening in 4 days time... he then went through the offer i was going to receive from online and that if i had asked them it would be easily bea...ten and i get a $100 credit on my next bill... OK so now i had to get out of this ONLINE POWER AND GAS contract.... my advice is call the Victorian office as emails and phone calls to anywhere else are not answered...
We received a call from our current energy company saying that Online Power and Gas have submitted a request to transfer our electricity to them. Not only had this transfer never been authorised, but we had never even spoken to Online Power and Gas.
When I called them, I found out the transfer request wasn't even in our name. I asked them to cancel the request and they wouldn't do it until they spoke to the "account holder" who requested the transfer. Even when I explained to them that there must be a mistake and the other person is not the...owner of the property, they still refused to cancel the request until they spoke to him. At this point, I realised that they weren't actually trying to help me and that this was definitely not right. I told the agent that I would gladly speak to a manager if she could not authorise it, but if she did not resolve this, I would call the ombudsman, however she kept telling me to give her more time to try to get in touch with who they had on their file (though I'm sure they knew they would never reach him). After back and forth phone calls, 6 hours of my day and about 2 hours phone time, I told the agent that I would not wait any longer. I said that I would not speak to her anymore and that she needs to either cancel the transfer and give me a cancellation number or transfer me to a manager, and she said "okay, I'll cancel it". It was a highly stressful situation and such a waste of time. Not an easy battle, but if you find yourself in this situation, save yourself the time - ask for a cancellation (and cancellation reference number!) or you want to speak to a manager straight away. I would never use this company based on their dishonesty and lack of integrity.
Excellent Customer Service
I recently relocated and organized my electricity connection through online power and gas. There was an existing meter issue at the premises and the customer service team got me connected on time. I was kept updated throughout the process. Great experience so far.
Took a call today from [name removed]. He knew my address my full name and managed to call on my silent phone number. I listened to his spiel, stating a 37% discount off my current power bill. Said he wanted to send me a Welcome Pack but needed ID before he could do that. I asked exactly which company he was calling from and he stumbled, but eventually stated Online Power and Gas. I politely refused to give any further information or ID, as he already had plenty to be able to send me something in the mail. [name removed] persisted, and I ...asked for him to send me out some information regarding his product prior to receiving the Welcome Pack, he still persisted in asking for more ID. I told him I was happy with my current arrangement and could he please remove my name and number from his call list, however, he hung up prior to me finishing that sentence! If you call me again I will be going straight to the Ombudsman.

Avoid And Don't Use Them As Your Provider!
I have been asked to sign up under OPG last year and I found out that the customer service was really terrible. Beside, the most important issue was that the bill was NOT CLARIFIED with a transparent amount, there are a lot hidden costs and charges! So, why waste your time on a worthless and low class company when you can be a wiser consumer? Don't go through what I have went through.

Customer Sales/Service - absolutely terrible!!
There should be a zero star to rate them.
I was told by the salesperson that if I signed with them, they would email me the "Welcome Pack" which contains the full details of the rates, charges and discounts and I had 10 days cooling off to cancel. I was reluctant and I asked for the rates and charges to be emailed to me first so I can review it, but the salesperson insisted all I had to do was to call them and cancel and there was also No Termination Fee on cancellation if I didn't like the rates.
I was never sent a "Welcome Pack", so th...at I could compare with my existing provider. Did not get any correspondence from them for 3 months and thought they didn't process my sign up. Then I get an email saying my transfer to them had been completed. I call them up to ask them to email me the "Welcome Pack" and told them I hadn't received the initial "Welcome Pack" email. I was met with a defensive and condescending response from the "Customer Service Agent" saying they definitely sent it as they had my email address on file. I didn't accuse them of not sending it, I just stated that I didn't receive it and that I checked my Deleted Items folder and Junk Mail folder; which they responded with, "Well, I don't understand how you would not have received it if we sent it" - very condescending and basically accusing me of lying. They kept talking over me and cutting me off every time I tried to tell them that, "Ok, I'm not saying you didn't send it, I'm just saying I didn't receive it, so can you send it again so I can compare the rates with my current provider". I finally get a "Welcome Pack", did the bill comparison with their rates and discounts compared to my existing Simply Energy plan and I was about $50 better off staying with Simply Energy.

This is the worst power company in Australia
It is unfortunate that I have to give them 1 star, they are worse. You know the drill you get a phone call from a power company selling you their power. I thought that I had a pretty good deal with Momentum energy but this mob beat them with everything - a single tier power rate of 17.8 cents instead of 21.4 cents off peak 24 cents peak, a solar rebate of 15 cents instead of 6.8 cents and a lower supply charge - an offer too good to refuse. Naturally I got the spiel that I would receive my welcome pack and I would have a 10 day cooling of perio...d. I heard or received nothing from them until I got an email notifying that the transfer had occurred. I got the first bill 2 and a half months later which was tiny - the solar rebate was only 8 c/kWh but what the hell. The same day I received my welcome pack which had no welcome pack (no attachments) that finally came 2 weeks later (3 months after the transfer not prior to it). The following 2 bills were also low. There was always a small kW reading on each bill and didn't realise at the time that was not included in the charge (I found out later that the welcome pack stated that my charge was 0.000 c/kWh). I then got the $2385.90 power bill - you would expect an adjustment when they found out but I was charged almost 30 c/kWh instead of the 17.8 cents I had signed up at. After this bill I thought enough is enough - they had lied at about every stage of my dealings so contacted several other power companies (reputable) and found an offer that was almost as good as what Online had sold me - I signed up. Yesterday I received a phone call from Online - I was expecting it to be about the remainder owing on my account but it was just to see if I was happy with the service - after a long list of complaints the lady asked with other than that was I happy with Online without thinking I said yes. Thinking about it now I think I have now cancelled my transfer at least I have realised and can fix it. Do not deal with these people.
Questions & Answers
Was anyone contacted by Smart Utilities who then arranged a deal with Online Power and Gas?
We have been contacted by them and offered a deal that sounds very similar to the ones listed here. I can't find much information about Smart Utilities online, so this may be the name they are operating under now?
