Oricom Customer Support and Service
Bought my radio in July 2017, the mic cable started to deteriorate over the last few months - as in the outer casing of the cable was breaking down. (Always covered in the car - out of the sun).
I contacted support by phone, left them a message and received a call back within a few days. CSR said it should be covered by warranty and advised me what to send them to show the issue.
Purchase receipt, photo of Mic, and serial number sent off.
Received an email back requesting contact details for postage as the Mic was being replaced.
Support (Janet) contacted me by email to advise the replacement Mic would be dispatched soon.
I received the Mic within 2 weeks of lodging the information with Oricom.
Great product. Never had an issue with it.
Great product. A little bit bigger then I expected but works a treat. Good range with a decent antenna and easy to use. Very happy customer with my Oricom UHF088

Good radio for price but assembly lacking
Radio came with a faulty mic as the screws were loose on the cord out of the box and a lot of interference. After taking it back to SuperCheap they (Oricom) fixed under the 5 year warranty. That said it has great sound quality and all the features I need for a full din domestic uhf.

Not Good for Selective Channel Scanning or anything else really!!
I recently purchased one of these UHF088 radios new from Supercheap Auto and wanted to register it but the model is no longer an option to select on the initial registration page. So whilst Supercheap Auto is still selling them NEW you can't register the unit with Oricom.
Anyway, I was trying to set up my radio so that is only scans about 5 channels when I travel. However, having followed the instructions in the User Guide I have my 5 channels with MEM next to them and the unit still scans the entire 80 channels. Had I know this limitatio...n in this Unit I would have looked at other Brand models more closely because this is what I wanted from my radio. Now I miss transmissions on my 5 selected channels because the unit is too busy scanning 75 irrelevant channels - bloody ridiculous. The only way to scan without going through the entire channel sequence is to do a Dual Watch option which only gives you 2 channels. If you are seriously wanting to scan only a few channels when traveling the highways or out busy, my suggestion would be to look at other brands and give ORICOM a BIG MISS. Would NOT Recommend this Unit to anyone and would be hard pressed to even suggest Oricom as a viable option.
Live in Hope
We were a bit concerned when the salesman at Supercheap made sure we understood to keep the receipt if any problems. Installed the higher end aerial that they stocked. The electrical side to unit is about to be fitted by a professional, I hope it works as good as the one review said.
I made a mistake
I've had the oricom uhf028. The first unit use to turn off and back on again spontaneously. While annoying I held on to it a little longer. About 4 months after original purchase It then one day decided to stop transmitting beyond 20 meters while I could still receive transmissions like normal. It was sent away and a week and a half later I received a new one.
Now the second one is about 2 months old and driving down the coast for a holiday and suddenly smelt a very strong burning smell coming from the oricom unit. The unit flicked on and of...f repeatedly briefly. I turned it off after realising it almost caught fire and waited before turning it on again and sure enough I can receive transmissions like the first one but can not transmit or be heard any further then 20 meters (again). I'm hoping to receive my 3rd unit in a few days where I am toying with the idea of selling it and not being such a tight a and buying something that is actually reputable.
Transmitting and receiving
The UHF unit is dependent on the aerial, which means you need to ask yourself what aerial is best for your situation? 4.5dB aerials tend to transmit with in and up to a 5Km radius in hilly, mountainous areas. Where as a 6dB antenna will transmit up 10 Km's, everyone must remember the Line-of-sight rule, obstruction is any antenna's and uhf units biggest weakness. Just like your radio in your car and the aerial that it relies on, it can receive multiple transmissions of the some origin due to the host signal bouncing off of an obstruction multip...le times e.g buildings, trees and boulders, any large objects in fact. this can also weaken the signal as radio waves don't tend to transmit through a trees or a boulders at all, go figure. Any damage to the antenna can put it out operation as well, as there a layers of coppers coils in the structure of the antenna, thus a break in the coil is going to make it inoperable as well. Running both antenna options might fix most range problems try using a switch to change between either one.
Brought my UHF088 cb Radio last week from Supercheap Auto, strange, could hear my self on my scanner, phoned a friend 5 km away, he could hear the carrier wave from the microphone, but no voice.
Took the basic unit, set, power cord, and microphone back to Supercheap this morning September 15th, They were going to contact the Supplier up in Auckland, Maybe a repair job, or replacement
Great on receive
You get what you pay for
Not a real good radio at all, mine is only 6 months old never had great reception it has a lot of noise most of the time, 2 weeks a go it stopped transmitting, it still receives but no transmit, i have had enough time to move on spend a little more and get something reputable.
poor quality, bad reception
Excellent Value Radio
Firstly I have had CB radios for 35 years and I purchased this radio and installed it myself, I used a quality 970mm 6.6Dbi Well known ground independent fibreglass whip Antenna because I live in the bush and hilly area and I could not ask for a better radio in this range, TX out to 20klm's not a problem, RX even further, I suggest people use a good quality antenna, length is not always the best, The radio has nice tone and good features, well done Oricom, I recommend this radio to anyone after an 80 channel UHF CB Radio, a lot of the time people only tell you if there not happy, take it from me these radios are worth a look.
Features, Tone, easy to view controls and display, excellent RX/TX
not that great
bought this item due to its price and din size fitting in my patrol nicely but reception was horible sound was horrilble and half the time you turn it on the screen went all crazy and didnt work propeerly for ever turning it on and off for it to come good again i would not recommend this product at all
size, looks, solid
Poor quality - avoid
The unit suffers from very poor transmission and reception. Tried with another antennae and even in another car, same issues. Borrowed another brand, no problems with either antennae. I would very strongly recommend paying a few dollars more and avoid this brand. Lack of support and staff need training in their statutory requirements.
Great after sales service
Sounds like alot of other users have problems with their base, leads and/or aerials. Quality connections and soldering are fundamentals of radio communications. Had probs with my mic after 11mths of heavy, daily use - replaced with a new 1 no questions asked! It performs just as well as the 40 channel GME TX3440 & Uniden's uh095sx fitted in the same vehicle.
After sales service
Rotary dial for squelch, little flimsy
I have had my UHF88 for about a year and it is fine if I am communicating with a car immediately in front or immediately behind. Otherwise the communications seems to cut in and out. Has been like this since new.
I am not sure if this is normal but I would say the squelch is too touchy. I turn it about 3mm and it cuts everyone out. Maybe it just needs adjusting? (Not sure if this can be done?)
Otherwise, talking to the car in front and behind is fine.
Well priced. Full of features and could not ask for any more.
Squelch far to sensitive. (Or faulty?)
Very Good, for the price
I picked my unit up from a sale at Repco to upgrade to the new 80 channel UHF system.
Less than $200 it was easy to install and I have not had any issues.
Very well featured for the price, 60 extra channels to receive on.
Range and volume seem to be similar to my GME that was replaced.
Price for features the best I could see
Probably the worst radio I have come accross
This radio is "deaf". I have tried it with 4 different antenna installations, all of which work well with other UHF CB radios, but this one has extremely poor reception performance. Even hand held units inside the vehicle way out perform this unit, including a new 80 channel handheld and a 40 channel handheld. Both of these, when connected to the 088's antenna, work flawlessly.
Looks quite solid.
Very poor receiver.
Worst UHF iv come across
This radio is no good at all. Was in my ute for less than a month before it stuffed up. I can not talk with anyone and I can hear mates who were in a ute behind me. It has been sent off to oricom for repair. After reading all the reviews I wish I had of got something more well known
Will not recive and sending is very quiet
Very poor example of a UHF Radio -model 088
I received this unit as a Christmas gift in 2011 from my family, but have been unable to install it until mid Feb 2012. After installation was complete I notice something wasn't correct with the performance of the unit. The unit has an RX/TX issue, put simply it oly receives a signal from other really close radio users. The radio struggles to pick up a clear signal unless it's within a radius of 3 -5 klms of someone transmitting a message. I have replaced the Ariel with 2 new ones and no improvements were evident. Following these steps, I decid...ed to take my car into a car audio/ radio specialist who comfirmed my connections were good e.g. Power supply, Ariel but diagnosed the radio as having a RX/TX issue which ment the radio could only pick up random signals that were in close range. They commented that this was not the first one of these radios they had heard of with this problem. I have sent the unit away for service & repairs and will keep my fingers crossed on a positive outcome!! Excellent price range Not working correctly
Questions & Answers
Hi, I have a 4200 unit around two weeks old and initially it seemed to work fine but now I can hear (receive) but no one can hear me, there is a audible noise when I push the PTT button heard on other devices (our hand held units) but no voice is heard, almost like the mic is not picking up the voice. Any Ideas??
