Too high maintenance
After reading reviews I got the Ozpet system for the environmental and odour benefits.
I actually think it stinks and really doesn't trap the smell at all like the crystals did. I live in a small duplex and find the cat pee smell awful..
It sifts well and great I can put it on the garden but can't abide the smell or how my boy can throw it all over the bathroom trying to cover his no.2s
Not that happy considering how much it all cost and yes I am using it properly. .
Going to try with crystals underneath to reduce cat pee stink..
It is good but so high maintenance with our cat!
I'm probably a minority here but we have had oz pet for a while now. It is good and our cat tracks less through the house but the maintenance is a pain in the butt! Our cat must have extremely acidic pee and he pees a few times a day. As we are are at work full time mon - fri we can't shake the tray during the day only in the morning and at night so the litter turns black! Even if you shake it it just spreads black litter throughout the clean litter and makes it all gross. This can happen the day after u put brand new fresh litter in there and...with a fresh bottom tray. We have to clean it every 2nd day it takes so much time and is hard in a unit as we have to try clean it in a sink that splashes water everywhere or otherwise in the bath tub. I am tempted just to go back to a paper pellet litter like our old one where u just throw all of it out once a week at least that is a lot easier than the high maintainence of cleaning the oz pet trays. I just don't find it works great for our cat. My sister has it and she only has to clean hers once a week and I tell her it always looks so clean, no blackness... Her cat musnt have very acidic pee. I reckon it's good for people with cats that don't pee a lot, don't have very acidic pee and people who are home often enough to shake it each time their cat pees. If you leave the pee there for a few hours it just goes all black and grotty and it doesn't always seive into the bottom tray. Cleaning it is just too high maintenance for me.
Good system, but...
I bought this system because I wanted something that reduced odour from an old cat who pees constantly due to kidney issues and it does that very well. Very happy with it, but with the reservations mentioned
Easy to use, minimises odour
Design needs to be changed because urine can leak onto the floor if the cat sits near the handle area (which mine does a lot. Also the material is very brittle. Don't drop a tray - it'll crack
Questions & Answers
How long can you use the Oz pet litter once the pellets have broken down?
I wouldn’t use the litter once the pellets break down, that means that they have been used and start to smell.
Can this waste be flushed down toilet?
No, it is not suitable to be flushed down the toilet. I have stopped using OzPet litter as it stunk the house out using the twin trays. I now have gone to Catlux clumping litter as the house does not stink anymore, however, it does not fully clump and I have to be careful in separating the good litter from the lump of wet litter.
can you flush the litter when you pick up the poos down the toilet ?
Yes you can flush the solids down the loo, I do and I have 5 cats inside
