So far so good

My network coverage is quite good but I constantly drop to 3G, in a 4G area. My data download speeds vary sometimes they are really fast on 4G and other times they can be quite slow on 4G. But my data speed is relatively fast. Sometimes phone calls drop out, and sometimes people can’t hear me. Show replyVery good provider

Sign-up was hassel free, price is comparatively good. Using Telstras 3&4G network best by far in remote and regional areas.Data costs are still excessive... unfortunately no roll over of unused data. Show reply
Coverage from Pennytel
Was a bit concerned about coverage by Pennytel as we were about to travel around to fairly out of the way places, but Pennytel surprised us. The coverage was extremely good, working in a lot of places where services did not. Would highly recommend for people who, like us, want basic phone service at a very fair price. Show replyGreat deal
Great value for money. Pennytel uses the Telstra network, so, my mobile phone works well almost anywhere with good reception.The downside is that they do not offer data rollover like many other companies. If they did, I would’ve given 5 stars. Show reply
Poor mobile reception and out of service area
The reception is poor in areas of Richmond train station and Southern Cross Station. Data download is less than 50b/sec.Also the mobile often display out of service area in building on King Street of CBD, which should not happen for Telstra network.
I would appreciate if you would investigate and advise.

Good service
Pennytel have quickly and responsible provided the service just as they claimed they would. We have experienced no service issues and a minor issue with charging was immediately fixed just as they told me it would be. The service has been strong and reliable for in the areas we have used it around Tamworth, Port Macquarie and along the New England Highway towards Maitland. Show replyA good Telstra re-seller
A good service. Price is great & communications easy. No long wait for an overseas call center like with Telstra &, best of all, a bill I can understand!I do have dropouts at our weekender on the coast near Geelong - around once a week. Coverage is not identical to Telstra & it defaults from 4G to 3G a lot of the time.
Downloads are a little slower than Telstra but still adequate.
Overseas roaming is expensive at $10 each day calls or SMSs are made or received (compared to Vodaphone at $5).

Lack of service

Our mobile plans do use the Telstra network, however, even for Telstra not all areas are covered. Overall the service has been quite good, having been on the receiving end of basically no service for a periods of time prior to changing to Pennytel. There have been the odd dropouts but not many. The main hassle has been in trying to upload photos at times and the service begins then basically hangs there until I get home where the wifi picks it up. The Vodafone network is quite good the speeds could be a touch faster.Dropouts happen with all networks so this I cannot answer different.

I chose Pennytel because it operates on the Telstra network and was far cheaper price point than Telstra. Customer service was English speaking and good. However, I can't send it recieve MMS texts. I have tried all types of settings on my MotoG4. Customer service could not with this, and it may have something to do with the dual SIM. Download speeds are efficient. I have noticed that call dropouts are mainly from Optus customers that call. Coverage is really good considering I work in a low coverage area. Good inexpensive service
Have had no problems with coverage. Can access all the apps on my phone pretty much wherever I go. Bought the 2 Gb download plan, which is more than enough for my needs and was way cheaper than any other plan around. Was really easy to switch to Pennytel; had my new Sim card in a few days.Peter. I have had several phone drop outs, but this happened when I was with Telstra. I do not have a problem with down load speeds. I am unable to use my phone as a hot spot, but can access the net by using tethering connection. The phone is a Samsung J2 Pro. Show replyNew Purchaser

After having all types of problems with other mobile providers switched to Pennytel some months ago and am very surprised with their service.No drop outs regardless of where I have been am still in my 6 month billing at half price and would recommend this service to anybody considering a change. Network coverage seems adequate but phone reception in my house, and indeed my street is not as good as I expected from a Telco that was boasting 98% coverage on the Telstra network. I guess I am in the minority where I use my phone as a phone. But I will say, it does seem to have less dropouts than when I was with Optus, even though my phone is showing no bars of reception.
