I joined up with Peoplecare shortly before needing 4 wisdom teeth out, I sent through a photo of my invoice for the procedure just before I went in the chair and by the time I was brought back out of general anaesthesia they had processed my claim, totalling $1,500, no questions asked. Unfortunately I had to cancel my cover shortly after due to finances which I feel quite guilty about considering how great they were. Their prices vs benefits were the most competitive I could find and the promptness of refunds was excellent.
This is the best for us
Our family have been insured by them for over 6 years, the cover we have no longer is available to new costumers but even the new ones they have are still good value. The one thing that sold us our policy was it had the ambulance cover Australia wide included in the extras.
We have no means to pay for a full hospital cover so we only have extras. Over the years we had to use the ambulance a couple of times, you get the bill, email it or send it to them, they do the rest. If you have a question, they are very knowledgeable and you don't wait 10...
Excellent product and service
Great value for my policy. Very impressed with my cover and the price compated to others in the market. Excellent customer service - always friendly and ready to help! Love that they are not-for-profit :)
Peoplecare have been great
We changed to Peoplecare because they were cheaper than our previous health provider and they have exceeded all our expectations. They covered many items not covered by other insurance providers and have been lovely to deal with. Each time we ring we talk to a real person without having to push a lot of buttons and my husband just received a call after recent surgery offering him a heap of services that are free under this cover. Can't recommend them highly enough.
Good but get differing answers with benefit amounts
I recently rang and was told that i would 80% of cost up to $1500 for a sleep apnea machine, only to be told 2 days later no it was only $800 so very disappointed
Not clear on othopaedic
We have been with them for 3 years and had no problems. However recently my son needed a new pair of insole ($695) thought I would have a heart attack and would have to claim for it. Anyway 2 years previously I got a rebate of $500 per family for the old insole which was great. However this time no rebate. So I rang them and they told me that it would restart at the end of the financial year. Went back to get the insole yesterday and paid but again no rebate. This time someone told me that the rebate would be available in September which was wh...en two years previously I paid for the first pair of insole. What am supposed to do now. $695 is quite a lot of money and will put a hole on the budget until September. This is a pity because I have always find Peoplecare service very good as well as prompt and agreeable customer service. Would hate to have to change. Anyway enough ranting now.
Peoplecare really are good
I hate all forms of insurance as the costs are so high. But I've been a member with Peoplecare for 20+ years and always found their service is excellent and premuims extremely competitive, for the cover provided. They are 100% for their members, and not for profit or shareholders. Health insurance makes me sick but Ive compared and found peoplecare are the best of a bad bunch!
Patronising and unclear
There are two reasons for this review:
1) My doctor asked me to check with my health fund if a particular specialist was covered as it would save wait times. I didn't think it was but figured it didn't hurt to ask. When I did the man I spoke to was very patronising, basically talked down to me like I was stupid to ask.
You know, not all of us have grown up with private health cover and got it later in life. Sorry I thought that as a customer I could ask and learn something.
2) I wish they had clear information on what they need for a clai...
I never write reviews. But my goodness...download the PeopleCare app onto your phone (takes a second), click submit claim, attach a photo of the receipt, click agree to T&C's, click submit. I can't get over how simple it is!!!
Well done People Care! Just submitted claims this week. Haven't received funds yet.But the process is incredible.
Won't be changing anytime soon
Really love Peoplecare I recommend them to all my friends and family. Love the app which makes claiming even easier. I have had gold extras cover for 5 years and will be adding hospital cover shortly. One of my daughters needed speech therapy and the receptionist was shocked at how much I get back saying it's the most she has seen from any health fund before. My husband was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and we were rebated $800 towards his CPAP machine which helped us a lot since the machine was over $2000. I have recently started using...the dental clinic even though its an hour drive from me with 3 daughters it can be costly but we get free check up and scale and clean plus low out of pocket costs. Was quoted over $800 at another dental clinic after rebates for filings and fissure seals but at the Peoplecare dental clinic will be charged less than $300. Look no further they are a great health fund.
The worst and rude customer service, I feel unwelcome
I joined 10 days ago - no communication or contact. But took the money out in 2 days - still no sign of the policy. When I rand to find out, they were very rude. I moved to another one - now trying to contact for refund but again they are too busy. Unbelievable. Emailed 6 times and tried to call several times. Not cusomer focused - just money minded.
Great health fund choice
Have been a member since 2009, I extensively reserached funds at the time and Peoplecare were clearly the best value fund around. Have both hospital and extras cover and never had any issues. Still maintian they are good value as a often review our health cover. Excellent customer service. Recently purchased contact lenses from their online store and great value purchase that was easy and hassle free. Little known fund that is a really good choice for health insurance.
So far so good :)
I decided to transfer to Peoplecare because they get fabulous customer service reviews and are a members own fund which is important to me. There was a hiccup in the beginning with incorrect payments being taken out - my paperwork said one thing but they took a different amount entirely. I emailed them with my enquiry and their response was prompt, friendly and clearly explained. They made a mistake with the information they sent through on my paperwork and apologised for sending me the incorrect details regarding payments. Initial hiccup aside I am happy to be with them and appreciate that when I do have an enquiry it will be responded to in a prompt and friendly manner :)
Service is disappointed, I feel unwelcome
I am new to Peoplecare and just joined last week. I looked at my bank account and realised a different amount is charged, so I called up and enquired about it. I was explained impatiently and didn't feel welcome anymore after joining them. The rep said to me there's additional charge for an extra day of service to be paid because I joined on the 10th and the payment took place on the 11th. And it will be 11th each month subsequently. I understood it but should I have been made advice about this additional charge at the time when the payment was...about to be processed instead of having me to find out a different amount was charged and called up it's not even the same amount I agreed to pay at the time? I am totally disappointed about the service :( Initially I was going to tell my friends about this new fund I joined, I'm hesitated now. I am not sure if I will make a switch.
Updated Review 2015
I reviewed Peoplecare in 2012 and thought it time to update my review. I shop around every year and am pleased to report they are still 5 stars. This year I've had to phone them twice- both times a human being in Australia answered within 10-15 seconds. The changes I requested were effected immediately and I received written confirmation within 2 days. The customer service person gave a surname on the written confirmation, proof enough for me that their staff remain comfortable in their product knowledge and are willing to be accountable. Their coverage and benefits are good, and I pay only half of my excess if I'm admitted for day surgery. Recommended.
Would not be without private health cover and we are very happy with this provider. We can make claims using their simple phone app and payment is prompt. Rebate amounts are generous. we have never had a problem accessing advice on the phone.
They've lost the plot!
Have been a happy customer for almost 3 years, but not any more. Nine days ago I submitted an email requesting a policy suspension while we are overseas, and six days ago I submitted a claim on my Extras policy. To date all I have is a computer generated "we’ll be in touch soon" acknowledgement for each.
Not being used to being treated this way by Peoplecare, last Tuesday I rang the service number, and received no more than a "sorry we are busy" explanation, and a suggestion that I wait until about next Tuesday for the Extras Claim. Hello! I'...
Hefty premium increases and poor customer service
Switched to Peoplecare after reading older reviews about how good they were. Unfortunately, since joining them, we've been hit with hefty premium increases for the past two years - 8.4 % last year and 9.2 % this year!
The Department of Health has published a table showing the average premium increases by individual insurers for 2015. The Peoplecare average increase shown in the table is 6.08 % and the industry average is at 6.18 % which means the increase in our health insurance premium is almost 50% higher than the published averages.
Poor customer service
I sent two emails and even called their contact centre few times in order to get my clearance certificate. Despite all the correspondence I have still not received it and I am very disappointed the manner they handled my enquiry.
Used to be good until Policy changed 1st July 2013
Peoplecare used to be popular and I labelled them as "fair" "honest" Australian Health Insurance company until they changed their policy 1st July 2013. I took Silver Extras.
It is still good compared to most of major health insurance. Customer service is very helpful. I wish they have the same cover as they did 2 years ago. I am leaving them and move to other insurer. I will use Peoplecare as benchmark and see how it goes.
Great cover-But lacking in Customer Service
Have been with this crowd for almost 3 years, had a few simple claims with dental and Physio, easy and happy with the claim process but when I rung them today to pay my account, I asked them to email me a copy of the original invoice. She confirmed my email, and said she would email it through. After waiting for a few hours without it coming through I called them again, and got someone else who said they are unable to email the invoice or the receipt that its been paid, as they don't have the facilities to do that!? I explained I was not able t...o wait for them to post it to me, as they are in NSW and I am in WA and I needed to to claim it back thru my employer and I was not wanting to wait 7-10 days. They said this was not possible, I am starting to wonder what kind of business in this day and age is unable to email back a receipt? Will look at other providers before next renewal. Ease of claiming Very old systems and information given is not consistant
Went from fantastic to mediocre
We had the same issue as many below - we switched from another fund due to outstanding reviews (from this site) and fantastic extras coverage including 75% back on most services. We joined in February 2013 and had no problems making claims on our extras. Come July 2013, I went to one of my regular chiro appointments and my rebate was $25 instead of the usual $38! This came as a complete shock to me - and contrary to what Murphy 75 says - we were not informed in any way shape or form by people care.
When I called people care to question the ...discrepancy in early July, they told me that they had sent a letter to all members. I knew I didn't get it because the extras cover was the main reason I joined their fund, and this news would have affected my decision to remain with them. I said I would check my paperwork and she said she would look into it. Well, to their credit they did call me back! They admitted that they found there had been a glitch in their system, and members who joined between certain dates that year - roughly Jan - May 2013 (not sure of exact dates) were in fact not informed of the changes!! No letter, no email - nothing! I was furious. The girl on the phone informed me that "most people have been fine with it!" My response: "Firstly, maybe they were actually informed, and secondly, maybe they aren't happy but they just haven't called to complain." I think if you join under a particular cover, the fund is obligated to honour their agreement with you (my mum still has her 10+ year old Grant United coverage honoured by Australian Unity!) The bottom line - I think for when we were with them, they were a good fund (friendly customers service and no hassles with claims - like some of the big companies). But we were just really annoyed they changed cover, didn't inform us, and that our call led them to find a mistake in their own system. They apologised, but we just thought, when we are spending almost $4000 a year on a fund, that's just not good enough Peoplecare. We have now moved funds to Teachers Health Fund. Small company, no hassle refunds Poor communication, customer service could be improved for complaints, made very big changes to our cover without telling us!
Best health fund I've been with so far
I've been with BUPA, and NIB, and now I think I'm going to stick with Peoplecare. I joined PC in June 2012. They have excellent customer service (call up and don't need to wait on hold!!). I have now converted my husband as well so now we have family insurance. Highly recommend. I have the gold extras with the basic private insurance.
Good customer service
I don't use all the extras, wish they could let us have a maximum extras on what we wanted.
Flawless fund and spreading the word
I joined Peoplecare in August 2013 just before turning 30 purely from reading positive reviews and went for their basic cover initially. One month later I found completely out of the blue that I needed surgery as soon as possible. I was covered by Peoplecare (approving my application within days) even though I just joined so long as my operation was 2 months after my joining date. From arranging the procedure details in what was a stressful time, Peoplecare were the easiest, most helpful people to deal with and made the whole process so much ea...sier. They provided more than sufficient information in packs, answered my many calls instantly with incredibly helpful staff. I cannot recommend Peoplecare enough and am having my partner join as well as spreading the word to friends. They really are a fantastic fund who always strive to provide the best customer service in which they absolutely delivered. Reliable, friendly, responsive, helpful, efficient, value for money.
Top service top cover
We've been with PC for many years and have consistently been very satisfied with client service and value for money. Having recently become self funded retirees we decided to do a quick review to see if there are any clearly better alternatives. It's hard to compare them on an apples with apples basis, but a few years ago Australia Fin Review ranked them among the top funds. Looking a few other funds it looks like PC are still right up ther, so we'll stick with them. My gripe is not with them, it's more with fund users in general: a big probl...em based on a large volume anecdotal evidence from acquaintances, is the number who claim their annual entitlements whether they need them or not eg new glasses each year. It pushes up the cost to everyone else and/or reduces their benefits, instead of the 'ab'users. Good value and great service
