Worst service at Petbarn Caringbah and the online store is the worst I have encountered!
If I didn't need the products I wouldn't even bother shopping here... the staff never ask if you need any help. You could wander around for an hour and no one would approach you. And if you do ask something it is like extracting a tooth. The only service you get is when you go to pay, there is always someone there ready to take your money!!
Products on the website show available and when you check they show sold out!!!
Petbarn, you need to train your staff better or you are going to lose all your customers!
Terrible Terrible Store - Horrible Service, Expensive Prices, Really Bad Back Office Support
My wife just called this company the Burleigh Waters store, the women was rude on the phone, not wanting to assist even at a basic level, stating that they were so busy, she was abrupt and in all honesty rude and useless. Why not sit on the doll queue if that is how much you appreciate your job, poor staff, poor service, we tried to get our points amalgamated into one account as we had a few gathering points, years later they still had not done it, "oh it does take a long time at Head Office", like NEVER. After receiving such bad service at Pet...Barn we called Best Friends, the guy on the phone could not have been different, extremely polite, helpful and had both products we were wanting to purchase, not the same could be said for PetBarn, both products they did not have in stock and the service was terrible!!!! Often you are just too busy to go online and let others know but this time, no I thought it needs to go online.
No service from Head Office
Recently purchased a large fishtank (2 weeks ago). We went into store to buy a replacement for the filter to find out that no stock. Called twice to speak to the manager at customer service and am still waiting for a call back. Called again today and was on hold for a long while and ended up hanging up.
My complaint is that I have been told I can ONLY buy on line not to mention its out of stock Product cost around $5.00 to buy and another $5.00 for deIivery. I don't buy anything on line, I cannot understand why if they have their own on line s...
In store rip off
I researched a product online and then went In store to purchase. The online non sale price was several dollars less than the In store price. I hadn't realised in till I was home. I contacted customer service who took forever to answer then clearly didn't read my complaint as they told me all about the price match process with other websites. I wrote back twice and after another several weeks got another response this time about online specials and that it is up to ME to tell their STORE about the lesser price.
What a scam!!! They use low online prices to get you to go in then charge you more. Not to mention prices are often not on the shelves.
THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF!!
Went into to your Strathfield store to buy bird products . Not one of your staff members ever approach us to see if we need help . But today we went to buy some products for our Budgies when we got to counter to ask if the stuff was good for our birds we were told I’m not a bird person so i have no idea .. wow .. I think if you work in a pet store you should learn about what your selling !!! Not a hello when you walk through the door couldn’t even say a goodbye . I have dogs birds and fish I will never return to your store again . Ever heard of...that saying !! You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.. pet barn your staff need teaching not only in the field they work in but also on how to say hello good morning or a goodbye to your paying customers !
Two bad experiences with fish purchases
Bought two female guppies at the Blacktown store, two weeks later most of my fish started showing of lethargy and after two days one of the females died and one of my clown loaches too. Within 4 days of the first signs of an issue I had lost all but two fish. A couple of days before this started a friend asked me to pick up a couple of female guppies, I did this at the same store. The next time I saw her I told her about my issue, she told me she had lost all of her fish to the exact same issue (lethargy, discolouration and then dead), she already had 5 guppies in her tank which she had for over a year prior to this. I don’t see this as a coincidence
Stay away unless you are filthy rich!
Absolute rip off. Thanks to KMART for pet essential for a fraction of price that pet barn charges which does the same job except some high quality diet which can be bought online from the manufacturer direct. Avoid this horrible place all together. Every petbarn store that I have been they all the same ripping off customers.
Check your receipt!
Always make sure you know how much your products cost. At my local store, everytime without fail, I am charged a higher price than what is ticketed on the shelf. I have been stung a couple of times and now if I must shop there, I make sure exactly how much things cost and what the total should be. I brought this to the staff members attention on a number of occasions that this happens and I get a blank stare in response. If I can purchase elsewhere, I certainly do. Very poor
Won't sell an in-date product
Went into a store to buy Comfortis (flea product for dogs). The had about 6 boxes on the shelf but salesperson refused to sell it to me as said it expired in April. Couldn't understand that as today is 18th April so it's not expired yet - presumably why the product is still on the shelf! Poor knowledge, or lying and it actually expired last month, then why is it on the shelf (behind the counter so I couldn't read it myself). Being in the medicine business, April expiry means it is in-date until end of month. I was keen to buy so they've lost both this sale and future sales.
Complained to head office and will update this review depending on their response (none yet).
Petbarn groomers hoxtern park is the biggest waste of time and money!!! The grooming ladies do not have any real passion towards there job which I think is a must when it comes to working with animals. All i asked was for my puppys nails to get cut and for him to be washed they washed him but didn't cut hes nails and when I went to pick my puppy up from the store he was still wet and dead hair was still coming off him like for pete sake it took them 3 hours.

Overpriced with poor customer service.
Appalling customer service and very expensive. Purchased a packet of heartworm prevention and was charged $55. The price when checked in their online store was $46.74. Rang them to query the price difference and was told the online price is cheaper (which I had just told them). No explanation regarding why the advertised price online was less than the price in the store. When I told the staff member they had just lost a customer, her response was "Have a nice day". Price on reputable websites (eg. PetCircle) is around $31.40 with free shipping.
PetBarn fails 3 times in a row
My cat is old and needs 50% of kidney prescription food mixed with her normal food. 2 weeks ago I tried to get Hills prescription tuna at PetBarn Ferntree Gully, but they were out of stock. 3 days ago, having phoned them to be sure they had the Hills tuna, I went to purchase some at the same store. I was not able to get there til 6 pm, but because the store was closing, and even though there were other people inside and someone was allowed entry just in front of me, I was refused entry, even though I explained that I knew what I wanted -- to pu...rchase some Hills prescription tuna. Today I returned to PetBarn Ferntree Gully, chose 4 cans of Hills prescription tuna from the shelf, then was told I couldn't purchase them because the vet section was closed, though the till wasn't closed and I was able to select the items directly from the shelf. This sort of treatment is both excrable and ageist (my cat is 20 and I am 72). I will never enter a PetBarn again.

Was not offered a refund or for the bath to be cleared so i could finish her properly from the state of the DIY's , what i observed of handling of dogs in grooming and grooming comments
I will not be going back and I would not trust them with my dog for any amount of time
I took my 2 little dogs in at 8:30 am for grooming
Very bad service, rude and dog bleeding wanted to take my dogs the way they were and he wouldn't give me my dogs , told me he hadn't finished .
Killed all my fish
Decided to by a fish from Petbarn. But the horrible staff don't even check to make sure the fish are healthy. I saw a dead fish in a tank. So I got fish from a different tank to make sure it isn't diseased. I bought a comet gold fish. About a day after it being in MY TANK. It was forming symptoms of fin rot. And began infecting all of my fish. The comet died. And along with it killed my black gold fish. Thank you petbarn. Absolutely disgraceful.
Terrible service and rude staff
I went to pet barn to purchase a new goldfish for my tank and was told that purchasing a gold fish for my tank would be animal cruelty even though assuring the staff member my tank was more than sufficient size for 2 gold fish. The staff member then informed me that he wasn’t obliged to serve me and was quite rude towards me, petbarn has certainly lost a customer and I certainly will not be recommending pet barn to anyone else. What an embarrassment.

Worst customer service experience I've ever had.
I purchase from PetBarn for my pets and have done so for the last 5 years. I have easily spent in excess of $3K here. I've never once returned a product and only ever had good things to say. I went to St Kilda Pet Barn (the best customer service every time) and purchased an enclosed cat litter tray. They were not displayed fully assembled as the door was inside the tray which you could then fit on yourself. The door doesn't actually fit the tray properly and has about a 1 inch gap all the way...around where the litter flicks out. I took my tray in for an exchange (not a refund) and was barely given a chance to speak. I approached the counter asking what my options were for exchange and the sales girl said because it was used, I had no options. She called her supervisor over to get an opinion, he just repeated what she said, so same deal. He did not ask a single question, nor did he want to hear what I had to say. He spoke over me the entire time and when I asked if they were willing to send it back to the supplier with feedback, he said they simply do not do this at PetBarn. He advised that no matter what, litter ends up everywhere even if its enclosed. My previous tray didn't do this and I'm sure those with decent enclosed trays, understand that it is enclosed for a reason... :p After realising I was not going to get any help, I said “all good, I’ll go to my regular store and have a chat to them” he snidely said “they’ll just say the same thing, it’s our policy” and I walked out. As I was passing the register he saw that I had torn the receipt (however it still had all information and was in fact a FULL receipt) and said “they’re not going to do anything with a receipt like that anyway”. He didn't care that I was a PetBarn member and that I had spent as much as I had in the past. It was really rude and his attitude was so off-putting. I left with the tray, called head office and lodged a complaint. I am now waiting to hear back from them regarding my options. I understand when items are used, they cannot usually be returned - however when an item doesn't do what it is intended to do, which you do not know until you use it, it is a different situation. He was incredibly rude and the most unhelpful customer service representative I have ever dealt with. I hate to say it but I will never be shopping at PetBarn again. As a company, if you do not want feedback about faulty products, you’re doing something very wrong.
Grooming services disgusting - so disappointed
Tuggeranong grooming - took my dog here to be “groomed” and requested a winter cut as he had previously had done. 3 hours later when we collected him he was looking hideous. Not a winter cut at all but a summer cut. He is a labradoodle so has curly hair normally! Suddenly he had short hair to his skin with patchy bald bits on his head, neck and back of his leg. He also had bits of fur that were hanging, his ears had not been done inside and he did not even smell clean.
We had to take him to a party where people expressed concern for our askin...
I recently bought Feliway 60mm for my anxious cat at Petbarn and paid $75.I have since seen it online for $40. I wont be shopping with them again!!

Nexguard worming tablets nightmare
Purchased nexguard worming tablets for fleas, ticks, all worms and heart worm from pet barn. Gave it to my healthy 6 month old dog. 8 hours after giving her the tablet she had explosive diarrhoea, vomiting and violent body tremors. After which I read the insert of the packaging and it had listed all these side effects to the letter. Also read on other review websites about the same product and all seemed to state exactly the same symptoms that my dog experienced. Took the product back and the ladies at pet barn Melrose Park were understanding a...nd gave me an exchange for a product I usually would have bought. Aside from the fact they gave me exchange I’m writing this review to reach out to pet barn and let them know this product in all seriousness should not be sold. Hopefully they will consider this as a warning that a reputable pet supplies place shouldn’t be selling a product that is quite frankly dangerous for use on dogs.
