Dog Training Course
We signed up to the Petbarn beginner dog training school for our puppy Leo.
Leo attended the first classes with basic commands such as sit, wait, stay, lie down etc. he responds really well to treats and is also great at recall when at the dog park.
The information presented in the class was very informative and helpful. We found the class was not suitable for our playful and energetic dog.
The class is held in the middle of Petbarn in a small caged off area with 4 other dogs. Already there are many different smells in the store due to dog...food etc, plus shoppers were constantly walking around with their dogs, some coming up to the gate at times. The class started with dogs being expected to sit on a mat for 20 minutes whilst the trainer talked. Dogs were never allowed to interact with each other, not even before or after the class. Which was hard for our puppy as he loves every other dog and human and loves saying hi. As Leo is also very energetic (due to his groodle breed) it was an unrealistic expectation to keep him on this mat for 20 minutes. This expectation was stressful for us as we believe is was unrealistic for our dogs temperament and were continually reminded to get Leo to sit still.
The Dog/ puppy bark collar Citronella spray only sporadically works. Does not spray every time the dog barks. Very unhappy with this item. I would not recommend the citronella spray.
I live in the inner west and have been shopping at your Rozelle store since the day it opened. You had a red haired girl Named [name removed] working there who has now left for your Hoxton Park store. Since she has moved, the customer service in the store is practically non-existant. There is no genuine joy in the staff members you have working there anymore. [name removed] made everyone feel welcome as soon as they walked through the front doors. She had a tonne of regulars who came in just to visit her, she would remember you even if she hadn...'t seen you in weeks and genuinely wanted to chat and make sure you and your pets were doing okay. She was there for me to talk to when i had to put my cat of 17 years down, even went out of her way to purchase flowers, chocolates and a card. Bring her back to rozelle. She was a gem and a half.
Not the best.
I only shop at Petbarn if I’m desperate because they definitely aren’t the cheapest around, I needed dog food so I thought I would buy a kong toy with it. My dog generally doesn’t destroy kongs although I also know that Kong has a guarantee on their products. My dog destroyed it within 5 minutes, I rang them thinking that they would ask me to send them photos via email or something but they have insisted I need to take it back to a physical store to show them.
A 40 minute round trip for a $15 kong bone isn’t what I was wanting to do.
The petbarn representative told me that they could only replace it with the same item and that I probably shouldn’t get another one anyway if my dog destroyed it so quickly.
Not impressed with that.
Ignored when quiet and trying to buy Aquarium fish
I have bought aquarium equipment at PetBarn before to set up 2 small tanks which was fine as I knew what to buy. I then attended a different PetBarn store as it was more convenient to buy the fish. First time staff were busy at counter purchases, that’s understandable, so I looked at the fish. When it was then quiet the salesperson still remained at the counter and I was ignored. When I left he finally asked if I want help on my way out. The second time a few days later, same situation, but 2 salespersons chat to themselves when it goes quite s...o again I left. So the third time, I go to a different specialist aquarium place and receive prompt service, great advice and even a discount. I spent 170 dollars PetBarn. I know where to go from now on.
PetBarn in store Self, coin operated, dog wash!
PetBarn in store Self (coin operated) dog wash, is NOT suitable for all, I would say, most dogs! Ever since I started taking my pet dog there, his fur sheds like mad, more than 50% then usual, even for this time of the year (summer) and yet, the in-store staff denies it and does not accept any responsibility what's so ever! I have even brought this to the attention of Store management and head office as well, got crap all from them!!!
Not the best customer service.
I was happy with how my dogs looked after their grooming however I couldnt say the same for the customer service side of things. There was a little confusion as to what I wanted done as the terminology used my the staff was different to what was on the website. The time that was mentioned to me when they would be done was given to me incorrect and no appology was given. It was also delt with unprofessional as it was done right in front of me to one of the other staff that made the mistake. I also don't appreciate my dog being spoken about as "t...he one with the dodgy hips". I'm anxious as it is leaving my dogs with other people but after today's experience I no longer feel comfortable going to petbarn at cannon hill for grooming. I couldn't take a proper photo of the actual clipping error but found a red mark from the clipping that was done to her.
Up one entering the store- disheartened with customer service
I attended the KOGARAH store yesterday. Upon arrival there is a sign stating that all animals entering the store must be on a leash, which is correct. I entered the store with my three month old dog to find a huge dog roaming the store with no leash who ran towards me and my dog. I notified the employee that my dog was scared and questioned why the huge dog was not restrained. The employee replied this is how it is. I stated that obviously due to this, I cannot enter the store to buy the products I needed and he really did not care whatsoever. No customer service skills, he was very rude and arrogant. Obviously will not be returning to this store ever again.
Puppy school has been well conducted and informative. My puppy in the first week was timid, and at the second class very outgoing. Wonderful for I want to socialise my puppy. However I am very reclusive and do not wish to be placed in front of the group to demonstrate the training which I may or have not done with my puppy. I believe that all of these trainings are not quite so personal at my local vet where people can interact in groups rather than individuals.... possibly because of a larger space available. I am elderly, and with this, ...my last puppy. I cannot even catch a ball (somehow for less embarrassment..... I did for the first time in my life!) I will continue to attend for the last two weeks of the programme but will not participate in personal demonstrations unless I feel comfortable. Definitely will be attending for my puppy socialising which is already a wonderful thing.
Courteous Employee, Impossible Job...
It was the first week of the month and my first visit to a Pet Barn store. I needed a particular brand of pet food urgently. I had browsed the online store the night before and saw several 'on line only' deals but I like to support local so in I went.
I thought I'd join PetBarn and buy several $40 food packs. I signed up at the check-out and, when the courteous young man handed me my PetBarn card, he said "Next month you can get 10% off purchases..."
Next month? Next month was more than three weeks away and I needed pet food now. "Sorry...
Received scrachie before Xmas, it shows 20% discount off pet food for the month of January. When I went in to the store to use it, the staff showed me the very small prints to state the discount only applies to certain brands.
What’s the point of such promotions with so many restrictions? The staff told me many customers were disappointed like me.
I later found the same product online, it was $30 cheaper with free delivery.
False product and erroneous plant advice
Purchased three aquatic plants from Petbarn: Amazon Swords, Lilaeopsis and Borneo Swords. I asked at the time whether the plants have any special requirements such as lighting, temperature, etc. Was told that the plants have no special needs. Turns out, Borneo swords are non-aquatic and will rot in my aquarium in a few months. Amazon Swords have a high light requirement.
Dog grooming not up to standard and more expensive
Took my dog to Pet Barn for a groom. The lady was 15 minutes late and it was the worst groom my dog has had yet, and at $69, the most expensive too! Wasn’t cut short enough either and for the middle of summer, I will have to get him some now again elsewhere.
Grooming Service never answer their phone nor do they return messages. The online booking service hardly works. Very frustrating trying to book a groom for my dog.
Overpriced, cheaper options of the same product at other stores
Petbarn is incredibly pricey, for no reason at all. I have browsed a lot in this store and found that 80% of their products can be found at stores like Coles, Kmart and Woolworths for SO much cheaper. The only thing that I would credit Petbarn on is their doggie cages / chicken pens/ and etc since you can't find those kinds of things else where. I have bought expensive collars from petbarn and found the exact same ones from Reject shop and Kmart for like 3 dollars, not 15. Look elsewhere before you buy from here.
Condescending management who wore a uniform that was too small for her rather extra large size. Staff do not seem to be trained. Never enough staff on the floor. Huge wait lines. Broken promises. Loopholes for deals. Misleading promotions. Expensive grooming. Unhappy groomers who typically try their best.
I urgently needed some Oster Kool Lube for my dog clippers. My usual product supplier was closed over the Christmas period. Petbarn charged me $37.77 for this. This product sells at most pet product dealers for $29.95. Also I purchase Advance Oral Dog Food from my supplier at a cost of $67.71 for an 8kl bag. Petbarn price $84 plus.............Talk about OVERPRICED. :::::::::The girl on the checkout asked me if I would like to join their loyalty programme. Needless to say I declined. An absolute huge difference in prices. roughly $25 on just two items. Disgusting !!!!!!
Bad experience at Maujra Park and great service at Woden, (Canberra, ACT)
I went to the Majura Petbarn. First of all I didn't get greeted at the door and no one asked me if I needed help. I went to the counter to pay for the dog biscuits. I put it under my mothers membership which has all of our history. The past 2 times we have bought dog food and they have price matched to our history. 18kg bags are normally 59.99 and we got it for 44.85 the last 2 times. The lay serving told me she can not over write the price match as there has been an update on the price matching conditions and that she needed to see a website t...o match it to. I told her that they have done it before for us. She was not willing to help. I told her I will go somewhere else. I went to the Woden Petbarn and I got greeted at the door. When I went up to pay the guy helped me a lot. I told him about using my mothers membership and to check that I get it for 44.85. He looked on the computer and found it cheaper for me which was awesome! 41.00 a bag so I bought 3 bags. Woden store was much better then Majura.
Would avoid at all costs
Usually buy my dogs food from petbarn, Elizabeth SA , as they have good prices for 20kg bags. Every time a sale is on they never have stock on the shelves, customer service is horrible, rude and unwilling to help
Terrible Unexplained Post Behaviour of our Little Dog.
As I cannot point my finger at anyone as i do not have any ''Real Proof'' except my observation of what I happened at the Groomers, next door to my Wonderful Vet at PET BARN,,,,,F/Gate on Tuesday , We took our Happy and Friendly 3 year old Maltese X for a Standard Winter Ready Cut...Price Fixed around $ 60.00 No Issue,,,, We were told to be back in 3 hours.....I explained we wanted a trim not a Crew Cut..that left our poor dog looking Totally Unrecognisable....But OK, it will grow out quickly.....Before n After Pictures have been taken the same...day....as my wife was devastated and blamed me.... The POINT IS.....When I picked up my little guy and got him home, he appeared Traumatised.....He was full of Nervous Anxiety,,,,,,Could not settle and was very restless and agitated,,,,,,We thought maybe it was a reaction from the Shampoo or Flea Treatment, so we gave him a bath....He settled for a half hour or so but his fear and erratic behaviour suggested, something happened there while in their care...... I did my own research online and read some stuff that mirrored my experience....Personal friends involved with Rescue and Dog Obedience Groups further reinforced my thoughts, that this could have been abusive treatment while under their care,,, I want an explanation from them why??? and then again Why??? it never happened at the last visit to them.....Today my Dog is back to his old self...but it has been very unsettling for all of us..... A reply is expected ASAP....
