Peugeot 407 SV Sport 3.0L Petrol 2005 (Third Peugeot Purchase)
I had such a giggle over these reviews! Sadly some people should just stick with the good 'ol Aussie boring, run of the mill faves, or cheap, ticky-tacky imports, because some just don't seem to grasp European quirks & class. The unmarked, full leather interior is to die for, absolutely first-class quality all the way!
EVERY brand has their "lemons", and I'm praying this 3rd Pug won't be our first. Black inside & out, she is positively stunning in every respect, super low kms & immaculate condition inside and out, with an over-abundance of b...
Read moreells & whistles ... all that luxury for a mere $3k. I feel sorry for all the Jo Averages out there stuck in their poor, but viciously expensive little, tinny buzz-boxes that age more in 1 year than a Pug does in 20! Safety is paramount, and I wouldn't want my grandies in anything but a Peugeot or Volvo! "The Ancient Rev-Head Rally Driving Granny".Purchased in for $3,000.
Decent car but obscenely unreliable
Not a bad car as far as ride, interior and handling goes. Looks are very subjective but I think it's an ok looking car. It's economy is generally decent considering I have the 3.0 litre petrol V6. Everything else about this car is horrible. In the matter of 6 months and 4,000km it has a thermostat fail, cruise control system fail, brake wear sensors fail, heated seats fail, front shocks fail, centre display fail, fuel sender fail, multiple bulbs 'fail' according to the dash even though they all work, failing window switches, rough transmission,...
Read more extremely noising timing chain/belt (?), leaks oil and coolant constantly - and plenty of another annoying failures or little issues, mostly electrical as the electrical systems in these cars are plainly the worst of all time or at least up there. And it's not like it was a neglected example with 500,000 km - it has 130,000km and the previous owner spent $10,000 alone on servicing and repairs in 2015, which aren't even related to the issues I experience today - that's right, literally everything else on this car has broken before or is breaking again. Stay far, far away from these cars if you value your sanity and money. You will never have one of these cars 100% working. Just buy a commodore, camry, or any other Euro car.Purchased in .

Exceptionally outstanding vehicle
I have both a sedan and wagon. both have done over 300 000k.
There are 3 rules to these cars.
1; correct service history is critical, especially observation of the transmission fluid change bulletin. Should it not be carried out the 6 speed tiptronic may well fail, typically between 80-120 000 k. Correct engine oil also is critical. Wrong oil WILL cause problems.Injector seal bulletin must also be observed. Premium diesel history would be a plus too.
2; The BSI on these cars is peculiar to Peugeot, so your general car guy( and some so cal...
Read moreled Peugeot specialists too unfortunately) wont understand when there are flashing lights, bells and whistles going off with multiple fault codes indicating thousands in parts and labour, when in reality it will be as simple as a rear wheel speed sensor or failing brake signal globe.( or similar..just an example) Point blank, criticisms of these cars are in situations where inexperienced personal have been employed to fault rectify. 1 unmatched tyre or incorrect tyre pressure can even throw codes that to the uninitiated would cause confusion. I have seen cars sent to auction for such things, 3 ; Buy a car that has been "driven" . A car that gets out on the road. Due to the particulate filter burn off requirement and that these cars are designed as touring cars they will literally "clog up " if they do a few cold Ks around town every so often. A low k example may not be your best bet. We live on a mountain. Our road has been reported as Australia's worst road for 5 years running. We are a small population. There are 7 Peugeot 407 s here. I have only one negative on these cars. They do tend to "crash" through particularly bad surfaces. That said, They are sure footed and wont throw you unless you are driving well past reasonable limits. Economy is astonishing for the performance.Comfort, appointments etc all well beyond their price level, even when new.Find out how Peugeot 407 D2 compares to other Sedans

This has been the best car we have ever owned
We bought this 2005 407ST HDI 2 Litre Turbo Diesel almost three years ago we have kept it well serviced and is going in for a 180,000km service with oil/filter and diesel filter I will get the timing belt done next service the car has always been good although the engine depends too much on computers . The car is a pleasure to drive but you need to find a reliable service agent as we have here in Perth WA

I'm in love with my French mistress - dont tell the wife!
It drives like a luxury car but has power to boot with its V6 engine.
Interior is to die for - lush thick black European leather - I feel like I am seduced and never want to get out of the cabin!
Great reliability and top notch appointments with most of the mod cons I am looking for, like halogen lights, auto wipers and too many others to mention. Even has French quirky additions like rear window sun shades, tire pressure sensors etc.
Got it for a steal, however I would encourage a potential owner to be somewhat mechanical savvy - why I ...
Read morehear you ask? Well most mechanics are sometimes not inclined to want to work on European cards like this and hence will always quote you more for repairs, so roll up your selves, get some grease on your hands and be prepared to source cheaper parts and jack up your vehicle for a fun packed experience - Ooh La La!- 2 reviews
Great drive
Had a 406 which had done 450k. Bought 407 despite some negative reviews. Had 150k on clock and a few minor issues at first such as rattles and dashboard warning messages. Have sorted these out and car drives beautifully with plenty of power (petrol 6 cyl). Got all the luxuries, heated leather seats, panoramic sunroof etc. for a great price.

A great drive but poor reliability
Owned from new. Plenty of toys, very smooth and quiet and reasonably economical. Reasonably practical - able to put a car seat in the back and car a pram. However, reliability and build quality were not good: tyre pressure sensor failure; three ignition coil failures; air conditioning failure; several bouts of broken wiring in the boot. Began to get transmission issues. Would have kept it longer but for reliability.
Philistines
Once a philistine, always a philistine .
Sticky leather? Surely you don't have other bodily substances to deal with?
Why would Peugeot leather be uniquely , " sticky " ?
Obviously you don't know whether you are coming or going!
It's a fabulous car for those who have the courage to stand out from the crowd !
Its marvellously deco and aeronautical, like sitting in front of the control panel of a 747.
Crawl back into the recesses of your suburban mediocrity.

Peugot are Rubbish, but i keep buying them
Bought a 407 coupe 1 year old with 30k on the clock. Fantastic car in every way, I would purchase several if I could, as you need to as you go through parts like water! the money never stops leaving your pocket from the day you purchase this evil beast. Coils, electrical faults ,it never stops. would I buy another yes! because on that perfect day ,on that perfect road ,when this car is working it was a thrill to drive a V6 coupe that handled like it was on rails.
407 Absolute dud of a car
Purchased new for $60k. Had nothing but problems over its life time. Oxygen sensors, coils, spark plugs. If I could give the car one word to describe it, "consistent". It consistently breaks down. Parts are outrageously expensive and servicing equally so. The screen display hasn't worked for 3 years in my car, just paid $1050 to have it replaced, only for it to now display in french and time and date won't set until Peugeot reset it - more money!
Do not buy a Peugeot u have been warned.
High fuel consumption, poor serviceability, expensive parts, unreliable

Comfort, Performance and Economy in a svelte shape
I have a 407 coupe 2.7 HDi, silver and black leather. It is comfortable, fast, very smooth and awesomely quiet at speeds up to 160kph. Economy is about 7.5l/100km with mixed driving. Six speed auto gearbox is especially smooth shifting and quiet. Cabin features are complex but easily mastered, boot space is excellent (despite the huge full size spare) although the back seat is cramped with the front seats back but it is a coupe after all. Seats are well bolstered, heated and easy to adjust (including by using the memory!). Best car I have ever driven and still makes me smile with pleasure when I see it.
Handsome, economical, quick, quiet and comfortable. Cheap secondhand too.
I'd love one with the 3.0 motor!

Peugeot 407= POS
It should have stayed in Europe. NO GOOD in Australia. I have driven many cars in my time but not many as bad as this. Shocking ground clearance... Front bumper scrapes on every large bump. Lousy visibility, shocking location for cruise controls and radio controls on stalks behind steering wheel. Most cars have them on the steering wheel... Indicator stalk on wrong side of steering column. It has the cleanest wind screen in OZ as I keep indicating with the wipers... Simple things like radio, A/C, heater controls too complicated... more buttons ...
Read morethan the space shuttle. No head room, parts expensive, what's with the plastic thingy inside the wind screen that cuts down visibility? Gutless engine, put your foot down and it hesitates for about 5 seconds then takes off. Shoddy leather seats, freezing cold in winter and burn your bottom - sticky in summer plus uncomfortable. Small boot. Lousy towing capacity, hand brake on the wrong side. Easier for the passenger to pull on..!!! Ergonomics just plain BAD. Not much bought a NISSAN Patrol instead. 4 wheeled POS. Over priced. So Far So Good
We had a 2000 5.7 Calais, with 3 kids the car was the right size and if we lived in the country the car would be perfect, but we live in the city and its thirsty. We brought the 2007 407 2.7HDI bit over a week ago and my wife isn't completely in love with the car but is enjoying it all the same.
We brought extended warranty with the car as you here horror stories about repair costs and had the vehicle check by a Peugeot specialist. Economy and power are good, luxury is good, getting used to it being French and the Europeaness of the car, if yo...
All looks no substance
This had excellent looks but absolutely no mechanical reliability and the cost of repairs are criminal, $3000 to have new alternator fitted because it sits under the compressor for the airconditioning, $700 for a new thermostat, the engine started cutting power every time I tried to put the foot down, that cost three visits and another $300 for a diesel fuel filter and now I have serious transmission problems.
And all the small issues, boot release button stopped working, electric windows have only work when they feel like it, washer jets also stopped.
It takes weeks to get parts.
All this started just after 100,00 klm, so no warranty, extremely poor for a $70 motor car. I would not touch another Peugeot in my life.
Questions & Answers
