Philips Bass On Ear Headphones - Black SHL3070BK
I would like to put the review in one sentence first - Value for money and more!
I bought these cans for my travel use, especially in train. The objective was to save my expensive headphones from wear and abuse and to listen to my favorite tracks on the go, understanding that the fidelity side will be cut short.
These headphones are simply amazing. They look cheap, they are cheap on the price side too. But Philips made them with a proper name. It can challenge any expensive headphones ten times its cost on bass. I have tried this pair with laptops, Samsung S8 in full bass with Samsung music app, a Sony high resolution audio player and some more devices. These headphones were able to handle the music with full bass and full volume without distorting the tracks.
To say some as comparison, I have checked Beats Solo3, Bose Soundtrue and Quiet Comfort 25, Sony Hear on wired [High resolution] and Audio Technica studio headphones. Out of these, only Audio Technica was able to excel in bass compared to Philips. I was really surprised to know that. Thinking about the price tag of 24 dollars at retail, this is amazing.
By the way there are certain cons as well. The pressure on ear lobs from these headphones is not that smooth. So it should be used for some time to get them a bit softened on that.
On the acoustic side, the sound is a bit deep and faded. It can feel that hums are coming from a pipe, but this may be due to the design to produce this bass from the small cups. At the first use I got severe headache from this pair as I levered the volume up as my normal headsets. The drums are rough on that side and really punchy. Mid frequencies are not that audible but highs are good if you tune the equalizers to your choice.
As a precaution, you must run in your ears slowly but listening to very low volumes first.
I have been using these cans for about 4-5 months now. Almost regular still can not wear them for more than one hour because of the pressure on ear lobs from the head band.
If you are looking for a set of cans which can really pump up music, go for it. It will not let you down on that side and as the price is so low, you can use this for the daily commute. But now I am keeping it at home thinking it does not deserve a rough use. Because for that price it really is something. Jut give it a try with your bass tracks at any retail like the good guys. They are on clearance when I write this review and may cease to appear on shelves soon.
