I was never on the phone for more than 2 minutes until someone answered. The guys aren't just friendly, they actually know their stuff to be helpful. Very happy with their service and pricing. Have both our properties with Powershop, electricity and gas.
Conscious energy use
I have been with Powershop for over a year and a half now and haven't had any problems at all. I live in a share house 4 other environmentally-minded friends and we all appreciate the ability to monitor our electricity usage and pay month by month. Having the option of purchasing electricity from renewables is great as well! The one time I have had to speak to the service team (moving house) was super easy and the lady that helped me was very friendly.
I recently had a problem with Powershop - but they resolved it
I had an issue with my bill as the person reading the meter - who is not from Powershop - had read it wrong. It took a bit of back and forth due to their complicated billing procedures, but Powershop eventually resolved the issue in my favour. It’s always good to know that if there is an issue, that the organisation has processes in place to resolve them - which they did.
Sceptical of the recent changes
I researched power options for some time before opting for Powershop. I opted for them due to their environmental stance and their megapacks. Just months in, I was notified that megapacks were to be discontinued. This makes Powershop far less attractive, as they were a means to reduce cost considerably. In return, Powershop were paid in advance. Not sure I’ll stay with them now.
Powershop app and customer service are both fantastic
They are easy people to deal with. your bill overdued they just combine with your next bill - no drama
no dishonour fee or things like that, you can always ask them to postpone a payment due date,
Their app is clear as hell and no body gets confused. overall, good rating, but the issue is that they change the rate ..... which is a bit sneaky.
User friendly app
Powershop mobile app is very user friendly with great user experience. It's easy to navigate to different types of power and check my daily consumption. I really enjoy it. The only reason why I dropped out is the rate.

Good if you know what your doing
If you are one of those people that uses power and waits for a bill every quarter, stay away from powershop, its not for you. If you are someone who wants to understand power usage, pay upfront to get discounts and have a better visual via an app of what is going on then you'll love it. Have been with powershop over 2 years across 2 properties. Current house I get a daily update broken down hourly of my power consumption including solar export via the smart meter. Great way to understand & manage power usage.
A different energy retailer
I have been a customer of Powershop for a few years. Takes a bit of getting used to. You have to pay quickly - within a couple of days of getting an Account Review email or you get hit with the higher rates and their method of billing is quite confusing but I have worked it out now. The good is that they pay high for solar - 12.8c currently in NSW. Their website is quite informative - there are plenty of graphs and I really like the usage and feed-in pattern graphs that provide colourful half hour incremental pictures of your usage and feed-in....They also upgraded my meter to a smart meter for free! Wish they had advised me before I paid for a dumb solar meter install though. Overall good customer service and if your organised then a good energy retailer to deal with.
Good customer service
Sandy was very helpful and patiently walked me through how to buy energy on the Powershop website. I was querying a recent bill that was much higher than it usually is. I’d forgotten that I had the aircon running more than usual. She worked out how I could get a discount and said I could send a photo of the meter reading to her and she would enter it for me for next time :)
Very easy to work with
I've been with Powershop for about 3 years and am very happy with their service. Always very easy to communicate with, and to keep up to date with our own energy usage. Power is going up everywhere but Powershop gives the advantage of discounts if you bulk buy in advance and give options to buy 'green' power or 'community' energy. Yes it is marketting, but as long as the money goes into the green hydro or other schemes, I am more than happy to continue my business with them.
My 10 Months with Powershop.
The last ten months with Powershop has been a quite straightforward experience for me. The App is pretty good, although if it showed, peak usage, offpeak usage and solar inputs for the day, I would say as a Customer I could make an even more informed decisions regarding purchases. If you want to get the lowest price you need to buy in advance, no doubts about this, if you cannot for whatever reason, then Powershop is probally not going to suit you. In fact you will be actively penalized for not doing so. The Customer service that I have experi...enced so far has been friendly, knowledgeable and polite. So in summary if you're savvy, engaged and can afford to purchase in advance then maybe Powershop is for you. If you have no interest, can't pay on time, then Powershop is definitely not for you. My two bobs worth.
Good if you managed to solve their billing algorithm
- free smart meter (costs $500) but waiting period is about 2 month
- prices are good if you are buying future packs
- great, informative app
- good feedin tarrif (0.1280)
- no cap on your feed in if you made more money from selling to the grid then buying
- buying packs in $ instead of kwh
- billing is so confusing to say the least ( most of the -ve feedback is because people are confused with your business model) ...
It's all about the rate and daily supply - read on!
I have been with PS shop since April 15 through GetUp's recommendation which is really why I went with them. A year in, I compared the amount paid to the previous supplier Energy Aus and it was lower by about $80. So the saving was enough to stay with PS. Of course another year in I had nothing to compare PS's annual cost which was around $100 more. But energy costs rose across the board so copped the increase.
This is what I do know - Rates and Supply. 26.94c/kWh and 83.66c/day. So if any of the big 3 can better this by a considerable amount then there's no point changing. Plus it's a great boycott. Afterall they've profited off me for decades!
I don't get all the fuss.....
Ive been with PS for a little over a year now and while I can see that their change in billing from a fixed rate per kWh which included the daily service fee (that allowed you to buy X amount of kWh) to billing consumption and the service charge separately (and therefore being more transparent), but requiring you to buy $X of power instead could be somewhat confusing to some people, Im amazed at the number of people that can't add two and two and see that nothing has actually changed.
I still pay exactly the same overall for my power, its ju...st charged differently than it originally was. Now that the latest price increase has been announced (from 1 July 2017), Im actually better off than I was before as I export a fair amount of power in summer, and the increase in the FIT will allow me to go very close to offsetting my power costs in winter as well. Are they perfect? No I would like to be able to use my FIT credit to pay for any shortfall in power that I have bought over the month after my monthly review has been completed, but before I am required to pay for that shortfall. At the moment , that is not possible. I am forced to pay for any shortfall first, and then use the FIT credit to buy power in the next month. Its not the biggest deal in the world, but it is somewhat annoying. If that was possible, I would have rated PS 5 stars
Not as bad as some reviewers say
Switched to Powershop end of last year. Mainly using the Android App. Despite reading all the info and FAQs, still took a little while to understand how it works and where to go for information. Am now happy that Powershop provides a decent offering based on my electricity usage and solar feed-in. Will recommend them to friends if they meet the criteria (see below) and help them avoid the initial frustrations.
Could improve on the following:
1. Provide consistent info on web and Android App. Clearly, they have been developed by separate t...
Questions & Answers
why is powershop taking money out of my account on top of us paying the bill?
Hey Daniel, there could be a few reasons for this, but without your account details, we are unable to see what's happened. Are you able to contact us so we can look into this further? Please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 1800 462 668.
Can someone please explain how powershop will buy power for me now that they don't have the mega packs anymore & do they use the credit from my concession that is in my powershop account first?
