Beware of non refundable monthly premiums
RAA sent our motor vehicle renewal it had a big increase of 33% with no claims made in the period of insurance. I went ahead cancelled my insurance policy effective that day as I found a cheaper insurer with same level of cover. Still had 3 weeks left until our renewal due to expire i decided just to cancel immediately as I had placed cover elsewhere. Advised they DON'T offer refunds for monthly premiums paid. Our refund should of been around $60.
Please keep this in mind!

Rude customer service, Website & the App doesn't show renewal period
This is so weird.
If you log-in to RAA website and download App, it does not show any information on the insurance period. As a customer of an insurance company, this is what I want to know. This app and Customer AC gives all stupid info (e.g. discount) except this key info.
When you pay to renew insurance, they don't send any confirmation email. You pay and you do receive a confirmation email, isn't it a standard practice?
You need to call them to request a confirmation email,,,so weird!!!

I feel let down by this company after being a loyal member for 16 years
I have all my insurance cover with them and have been driving since I was 16, never had I made a claim until now and I was declined. I went to a business to have a small job on my car repaired by a "panel beater" to correct a small swipe mark from previous owner. I did not know that this person was a scammer as his business was connected to another business that has been in the car tyre industry for many years. This man had my car for 6 weeks and refused to give it back. The job was only supposed to be for a week. I called and rang continuously...
Read more to pick up my car, my phone calls were ignored and when I got through they said my car was nearly ready etc, when I would go to collect it no body was there. After 6 weeks of this headache they finally agreed to give me back my car but would not give it to me unless I paid 300$ more then they quoted. When I got my car back I was in tears, my night mare was worse than I thought. My car was turned upside down inside and out. Although I have fixed the paint as much as I can and replaced majority of parts on my own, there are a few things not worth spending the money on that are not so obvious to the naked eye but I know they're there. Raa would not cover me for the cost of my paint repair that was caused by the scammers, theifs and fraudulent people, which was initially very bad and now they have told me they can no longer cover me under comprehensive cover because of the little bit of paint damage that remains. I feel very let down by them, I do however understand some of their reasonings but I honestly have been a victim here and a loyal customer for many years, Its a shame they can so easily not care of my circumstances. Poor customer service
I rang for road side assistance as my car battery was dead, the lady who answered was extremely rude from the get go. She showed no empathy what so ever and her tone was appalling. In an already stressful situation she made it 10times worse. Safe to say I didn't get the raa out and called a friend instead!

Insurance taking to long.
The wife and I were hit by a car that didn't stop at the stop sign. police did tests with us, we don't do drugs or drink. cleared of all wrongdoing and not speeding.car is a write-off. but RAA they are not like other insurance company's, very slow to pay us out. we live in the country and have no car.sadly we have been hit 4 times and never our fault. but other insurance company's fixed the car or paid us out very quickly and was in contact with us all the time. this is very bad.

Expensive and unfair cancellation policy!
Last year I travelled from Sydney to Adelaide and beyond. While in Adelaide, my car broke down on the freeway leaving Adelaide and I needed roadside assistance. I had no other choice than to join RAA car insurance, which set me back several hundreds of dollars, in order to be able to get off that freeway.

After years of recommending RAA to family and friends, when I actually needed RAA they refused my access to the membership benefits with towing.
I called the enquiries line and was told specifically that the services, namely, towing, is bonded to the membership and NOT to the car. 3rd party insurance is not fit for purpose
RAA are very good to deal with if you have a claim on building or contents insurance but please be very careful if you take out 3rd party insurance on your car. Be aware that if a tree falls on your car you will not be covered for damage to your car. Unfortunately we didn't ask the question when taking out 3rd party insurance policy on our car that if we live in an area with trees beside our house belonging to our neighbour and that maybe it could potentially fall on our driveway and on our car, are we covered. We couldn't prove negligence on the part of our neighbours maintenance of their tree hence claim turned down. We couldn't claim against our house insurance either as the car is not part of contents. It has been a very costly excerise in understanding insurance with the RAA. It is possible that all insurance companies are the same but I just don't know. The PDS is not very clear with regards to trees falling on cars with 3rd party insurance. Pay more for peace of mind. Maybe ask the question with all insurance companies you are getting quotes from. It will be worth it. If in doubt and can afford it get comprehensive insurance.1 comment

Poor claims experience
Six months to arrange for replacement of carpet following water damage claim . Appointed loss adjuster and never followed anything up. Had to remove carpets ourselves and arrange disposal. Once adjuster was appointed they wiped their hands of our situation, always refered us back to the adjustors. Disappointing outome after 20 + years of insurance with RAA.

Bad
Be careful when getting insurance from the RAA. I had comprehensive car insurance with them and someone ran into the back of me and because there was other damage to the car they would not pay out and cancelled my policy. All they had to do was fix the damage caused by the other driver and get it back from his insurance company. I had house and contents and 2 cars insured with them, now have none with and have gone elsewhere.

I have comprehensive car insurance ! Recently had accident! my car will be non - repairable. My car is used when we bought but it’s a 2017 Honda and was only done 10,000 and around 40,000 on the clock right before the crash !, my question is , I read it in the PDS that car can be replaced with same model , year and condition ! We have loan with the car , and we only need a replacement car as we need a car anyways as we have 4 children ! Dose it possible to get replacement car instead the insurer pay out our loan and stuff ? This is my first claim ever! Hopefully will be hassle free as I already experienced a very unpleasant costumer services and stressing ! Praying for a good result ! Thank you !

Hi Marelle, it took about eight weeks, but I delayed the process by not having my phone on hand (leaving it in the car and not checking the missed calls) when the RAA had tried to ring.
Thanks Douglas. I have never encountered such a lack of customer service. It is causing me a huge amount of stress and financial pressure. I've been a RAA member for 17 years, and it means nothing. Never again.
