Helpful and value for money

The consultants were fantastic to deal with as they guided me through my needs as well as being good value and then COVID struck and we were unable to travel so the RAC contacted me a number of times by email informing me that I was entitled to a refund, which they promptly paid. Poor customer service

Good morning, I am happy with the travel insurance I have just purchased, but I felt very belittled when I was given the cost as it was higher than another I purchased a couple of months ago with RAC, I commented "Oh that's a lot of money" and the consultant's response "No, it's not", she spoke in a very derogatory, harsh manner, even when I explained my comment, that the rate was higher than a previous travel insurance. I now understand rates change for different countries, and that's fine, I don't have a problem with that explanation, but it was the derogatory manner of speech that threw me. $375 to me is a lot of money, even if it is good value. Show details

Read your policy before purchase

RAC insurance underwritten by TOKIO MARINE ( To be a good company) Ha.

My Jetstar flight to Bali was cancelled after checking in by the airline as I had to be in Bali the next day I purchased a flight with another airline and flew out on my return I submitted a claim for insurance. Claim denied as flight was cancelled by airline, insurance not worth the paper it's written on be warned read the policy before purchase it doesn't cover much. Show details

All is great until you need to make a claim

I have used RAC travel insurance serval time ,first claim , I don't think it was read/understood , quest for information over the top / not possible to get (privacy) I had to change plans as My Father was unwell ,told by DR 48 hours would be the deciding factor ,so plans changed!!!!! Show details

Phone wait time to talk to RAC

My review relates to wait time on the RAC phone line.
Phoned at 8am and waited to be answered at 8.35 am.
Told the travel section doesn’t operate until 8.30 when answered. Pre warning of opening hours would have been appropriated. Show details

DO NOT BUY the RAC Travel insurance (underwriters Tokio Marine) to travel abroad

I bought insurance to travel for holidays. My mother died and I have to come back. I provided all information as required including cause of death, date etc. But they refused to approve the claim. Very bad service by the underwriters. Do not ever take RAC travel insurance or if any travel insurance underwritten by Tokio Marine company. Show details

The only company to not give a full refund

Had to cancel my trip to the UK as my wife broke her arm, cancelled all my flights, hotels, hire car etc and got a full refund. When I contacted RAC they only refunded $66 out of the $320 cost. Not a very good service from a company that is always promoting looking after members. They did say I could move the insurance but it had to be before the end of my original holiday which was of no use at all. So the lesson here is only book your travel insurance in the 21 days (cooling off period) before you travel so you can get a full refund. Probably won't use RAC again. Show details

Strange Refund

Took out a travel policy for Europe in October 2019 for use in 2020. Then covid hit and the rest as they say is history. The policy (which I had forgotten all about) cost $181 when purchased. Then 3 weeks ago got this strange email from RAC saying I was entitled to a "refund" of $30 if I signed a waiver. Which I did. Better than nothing at all I guess especially when they were under no obligation to refund anything. Show details

What is the point?

This was so long ago we have little recollection of this policy but guessing it was for Feb/March 2020 cruise to the South Pacific and Tahiti. The cruise was aborted midway when Covid took hold and the borders closed.
We floated around the Pacific before repatriation to Australia. I certainly do not recall costing $3.43.
I do not remember if a claim was made. Show details

Easy to complete

For an older traveller, medical conditions are inevitable so understandably they want details. The questions were easy to understand and the whole process was much less difficult than with other companies and the price was very competitive. I would recommend this company. Hopefully we will not have to make a claim as we are both very fit. Show details

I took out Comprehensive insurance and had to claim as a result of contracting Covid prior to the trip, salient reminder to purchase insurance in advance. while the claim took a while to settle, understandable in these times, I was happy with the process and outcome, I will be using RAC insurance again Show details

Will never use RAC travel insurance again!

Awful customer service, never reply to emails, very rude, kept delaying things. Tried to claim for a duffle bag that I lost containing my personal items that was left in taxi, was refused & said that the bag was "unattended" not "lost", read the small print. I contacted taxi company but because of language barrier I didn't get it back. I consider this "lost" not "unattended", everything that is lost is of course unattended! Don't waste your money with them, I'll be cancelling all my policies with RAC now. Show details

Do not use RAC insurance:. They deal with a Foreign insurer who does not want to settle claims

We made a claim in June 2022 and four months later NO settlement. Now we find they have subcontracted the policy out to a foreign insurance company. We had to seek the help the Australian Financial Corporation Authority ( AFCA) who advised the insurers to settle our claim. All our insurance for cars, house, travel is with the RAC. We intend to cancel all of our policy's and look for a genuine Australian Insurer. Show details

Terrible experience

Our travel claim has not been solved for more than 6 weeks after several phone calls and emails. The case managers are based on the eastern coast and are only available during their local time. The phone operator showed no empathy, continued to speak while I was trying to explain the situation and said that even if we complained to the Ombudsman we would be referred back to them. As an RAC member living in WA I will not use this company's travel insurance in the future. Show details

Clear PDS and Covid FAQs

The PDS was clear and easy to understand. I am particularly concerned about Covid-related cover and the FAQ section of the travel insurance web page answered all my queries, so I was comfortable in purchasing the policy. However, it cost over $100 for the week's cover, so I cannot give 5 stars. Show details

Disappointing!

We've had it all happening to us in one trip, delayed flights (overnight stay at airport), lost luggage (40 days) and a medical situation in which we had to change flights and extend a hotel stay for 4 people. If the suitcase rocks up we'll be able to claim delayed only - regardless of the period the suitcase was lost. Looks like we won't get anything back on delayed flights/hotel costs either. Lessons learnt - RAC will hit you with your access fee per event/claim - you cannot combine all of them in one claim. RAC will exhaust their terms & conditions in full and to the dot without any discretion or good will towards the policy holder. I will self-insure going forward! Show details

Outstanding Service

Daryl from the Mandurah Office was most helpful setting up our policy. When our cruise was cancelled he quickly cancelled that policy, transferred it to another trip and saved us a lot of worry. Very pleasing to see there is no age limit on RAC policies and the RAC now offers cruise cover and enhanced COVID cover. I'm very happy to highly recommend RAC. Show details
