Good unit. Hasn't missed a beat
Works well. 50 degrees because that's the law. A while to get hot water coz that's the house plumbing. Once going constant pressure using tank water. No other first world's problems here.
Purchased in August 2020 for A$800.00.

working perfectly! hot water never run out.
Just replace the old 170L hot water system by Rinnai B26. It is compact and powerful. 2 person shower at same time at 2 bathroom without any problems. Much better than the old one.
Purchased in November 2020 for A$850.00.

Had a new b26 ibstalled in a new house. 5 days later no hot water. Unit is not switching on. If i turn the gas and water off at the unit then turn them back on the unit produces heat fir about 20 seconds then goes cold again. Very unhappy.
Update: Rinnai sent a plumber out promptly and fixed the problem.

Getting tired of waiting for hot water
This was recommended and installed by our plumber.
We have massive issues every winter when hot water suddenly stops while in the shower, customer service is useless, when techs come to check, unit works fine so they can never point out the issue, we're at loss. We always thought we got a bad unit never realising so many people have issues.
Extremely unhappy.
Don't know how to get a resolution, the only option might be to change the unit and fork out more money. What a waste of our precious water!
Purchased in January 2017.

Occasional hot water
Since we’ve had this system it has never worked properly especially in winter (although occasionally in summer). Getting hot water to run is close to impossible. It involves switching off system and back on multiple times to get some hot water before it goes cold again after a few minutes. Very disappointed

No Good Dont Buy
Just had my house built with one of these and im very unhappy, it doesn’t heat up enough to wash the dishes, the water comes out just over warm, I can put my hands in without even putting any cold water in and doesn’t even feel uncomfortable, I have to boil the kettle to get my dishes clean, I shouldn’t have to do that its brand spanking new, if i had known that it would be like this I would have payed for something better, I seriously want my money back and the money it costs for the installation

Avoid the Rinnai B26!
A lot of cold water is wasted waiting for the hot water to flow through the taps. Very disappointed given we consciously make the effort to minimise our water usage.

Hi Anno,
Thank you for the review, the B26 is a continuous flow water heater not instantaneous.... Read more
The water must pass through the valves and heat exchanger before it gets hot then all the cold water from the B26 unit to the tapware must be expelled. This process depending on the volume of water in the pipe work can take between 1 to 2 minutes. This is the design of the continuous flow units. Once hot water starts to flow then there should be an unlimited amount of hot water. Please contact our technical help desk for any further assistance on 1300 555 545. Disappointed
Just had a Rinnai 'instant hot water service installed as people told me it would be preferable to the larger tank heaters.
Seriously wish I'd gone for the larger tank style.
Hot water takes forever to come through.
I now turn the tap on then go & do something else, meanwhile copius amounts of cold water goes down the drain.
When a tap is turned on, the water pressure drops right down then surges back.
I've had a plumber check the gas pressure & it is fine.
Looks like I bought a dud.
Pathetic.

Ok but noisy
Bought and installed Rinnai B26 2 weeks ago.
When water is turned on high it feels like the heater is not keeping up as i feel a slight coldness every now and then. Never had this issue with old tank.
Also have the same noise issue as some of the other reviewers. Everytime hot water is turned off there is a high pitch whistle noise which lasts for 5 seconds or longer. Its annoying me.
Rang head office and spoke to a technical lady who said we never had that noise issue before. Either she is not well trained or they dont read any of the revie...Read more

Very pleased
I bought this unit to replace a 1970s-era instantaneous gas water heater which broke down. I am really pleased with the B26 – besides the energy efficiency, the water flow is hot almost immediately after the tap is turned on, and the water temperature is steady (no fluctuation like on the old unit).
After investigating which Rinnai model to get I went with the B26, the base model. The B26 heats water; the next model up, the Infinity, has the same heating system as the B26 and also has a LCD display that gives an error code if the unit has a pr...Read more
oblem – I couldn’t see the point of paying a couple of hundred dollars extra for this. From my experience Rinnai heaters are very reliable and I would be surprised if it ever broke down, and if it did a service call would be needed whether there is an error code or not. (Runs off mains gas)Purchased in April 2019 at Energy Shop Australia.

Lots of wasted water
We recently had to replace our heat pump hot water system and thought we would give a gas system a go, I mean what can go wrong with a gas system right???? and you will never run out of hot water!
Sounds great on paper, wish I had of done some proper research but it all seemed pretty straight forward.
We got the Rinnai B26 which runs on LP gas, the first draw back of this system is that it takes a LONG time for the hot water to come through, and as such there is a lot of precious water going down the drain while you are waiting.
There is app...Read more

Good so far for hot water ''but'' the high pitched noise it makes
When you turn off hot water the rinnai 26 emits a sound like a bomb falling from the sky. It's a high pitch whistle which rinnai reckon was a batch of noisy fans, so they replaced the fan, no change just as noisy.
Spoke to a neighbor who has a rinnai 24 , no problem, quite all the time.
Neighbor next door has a rheem, same quite.
What will I have to do to get some peace and quiet from the missus over this damn noise.

Intermittent Water Heating Issue Solved
I have amended this review as i was originally incorrectly attributing the intermittent lack of hot water problem to the water heater. After putting on this review i was contacted by Rinnai who sent a technician out who diagnosed the gas pressure dropping when the hot water was turned on. My installer had checked this on a warm day and no issue showed up, the Rinnai tech checked on a cold day and there was insufficient gas to ignite the heater. Gas company replaced the regulator and, so far, the problem has resolved.
The upshot of this problem...Read more
for me, although it may be rare, 1) was not an issue with the B26 heater and could apply to any hot water heater 2) after calls to Rinnai it was the negative review that got their attention 3) I get the impression that Rinnai deal with lots of service calls that have nothing to do with faulty products (of which this was one). 4) sometimes you have to shrug your shoulder and say its just one of those things. Now working the only complaint with the heater, and this is comparing it to the previous storage system, is the extra time it takes for the hot water to reach the taps after turning. This is fine in the bathroom (close to heater) but wastes water in kitchen when only a little hot water is required. I knew this before buying and believe the benefits, like limitless consistent hot water, out weigh the negative... but this may not be the same for everyone.Purchased in April 2019 at Trade Link Plumbing for A$900.00.

*It corroded... under 5 years!! Too bad they said!
The unit was visibly corroding through the vent opening after one year. It wasn’t until it reached around 5 years old it stopped working and no longer heated. The unit is covered for 3 years and some parts for 12 years but our builder and plumber said these units usually last at least 12 years. Our plumber stated it wasn’t feasible to fix so we got a replacement. We contacted Rinnai support but they haven’t been helpful with replacing this given it’s out of warranty and were very explicit with their Warranty T’s & C’s. Our builder strongly a...Read more

Is it normal to smell gas near the B26 50 appliance?
1 answer
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Hi Gary,
Thanks for the question, the unit can give off a smell of gas while being used, but if it is extreme during use it could be incomplete combustion caused by low gas pressure.
If however the smell is there permanently a service call will be recommended to find root cause.
Please contact 1st care service on 1300 555 545 for further assistance if required.

Brand new B26 installed yesterday. Already has a fault. Will not make hot water at low flow rates. Initial start up takes too long and wastes too much water and time.
I'm telling my plumber to pull it out and return it to Tradelink in the morning
