No issues whatsoever, easy installation and solid hot water
I saw all the negative comments here and decided to let everyone know that my Rinnai electric HOTFLO 250L purchased July 2019 is wonderful, good narrow dimensions, made in Australia, Victoria new factory - I did my research. I'm guessing that other customers were ether in minority and/or unlucky and/or products were made in China and all called a plumber instead of calling Rinnai direct and let them guide them through the process. Got good price, $729 delivered and then I organised best installation option - don't let plumbers rip you off please.

Extremely Poor Product
After almost 20 years, the Dux Everhot had to be replaced. Was replaced with a Rinnai (plumber's choice) on 18/3/2018. Model No EHFA250536 Serial No 5008431 Date of Manufacture 10/10/2017. This worked for about 4 months then we were away for 4 months. About December 2018, we noticed some intermittent heating issues and replaced Mains Fuses thinking this was the issue as the hot water cylinder was supposed to be new. We were away again till end March 2019 and since then have had increasing problems, until now, we have no hot water at all. Have h...ad an independent electrician check all wiring and fuse box/switchboard but consensus is that the cylinder is at fault. Not surprisingly, the plumber has avoided our calls and messages, probably being aware that this product is sub-standard to say the least. The cylinder has had less than 8 months use, generally 1 person, sometimes 2 at the household. Have spoken to 2 other registered plumbers and they agree the cylinder is at fault and pointed us in the general direction of these reviews. Well, add another!! This is a terrible product and our after-sales service has been non-existent. We, however, are not prepared to stand by and let this go away and will be placing the matter in the hands of the ACCC. This product is known to be unreliable and faulty and there appears to be no after sales services or upholding of warranty. Buyer Beware!!! Do not install one of these cylinders!! They should have been recalled after the first set of bad reviews received. It is a very poor testament to the company that this product continued to be sold.

We had Rinnai Hotflow 250 installed 10 months ago. This week the heater element burnt out within the 1 year warranty period. Rinnai insists that their technician inspect and replace rather than the installer ( who came out to inspect 2 hours after phoning by the way ) Problem is they don't contact you and any attempts to phone them are met by a girl who "just takes messages" Meanwhile you and your family are without any hot water.due to a shoddy part which is supposed to last many years burning out within one. Your only alternative it seems is ...to pay for the replacement yourself which I suspect a lot of customers do. April 9th 2019 Update: Follow up on Warranty Useless The staff at Rinnai are inefficient, uncoordinated and incompetent. The installer and I gave them all the details 3 times in 2 days and in follow up calls they couldn't find any details. Wasted hours getting through on phone and waiting for callbacks that never came. Even got a recorded message asking if we were happy with their service and presuming I wouldn't need them again. What a joke.! After 3 days without hot water for my family and getting nowhere with Rinnai, the installer AC Plumbing came through and completed the work. We would have been weeks waiting for Rinnai to get its act together and I think any reasonable arbiter would agree I made the right decision. I cannot praise AC Plumbing, Strathpine highly enough bcs they did the work without charge and deserve to be compensated by Rinnai.

Stay away from Rinnai, bad product, bad service
Agreed this is very bad service, my tank is rusted I believe, as hot water came out yellowish. When I called them they will not be able to advise whether my tank is still under warranty or not, even I have provided the receipt, model and serial number. They told me to book the technician for $195.00 and they will let me know if it is still under warranty or not.
All I want to know is what is the warranty period for my tank and the storage cylinder of my tank, no you will need to pay $195.00 for that answer. Sad sad sad, I don;t know how Rinnai's customer services be so bad beyond word can be describe.
It does the job well
This is the only hot water heater I have ever needed to buy. The previous one died of old age in mid-winter. I went up a size, from 80L to 125L, mainly for family visits, not because I need the extra capacity every day.
Being without hot water for almost a week (the old one carked it on a freezing Friday night and the supplier with the best price in my regional area didn't have this model in stock) has made me really appreciate reliable hot water.
Running costs are fine for the size. Installation was straightforward. Overall, the whole process cost less than I feared, and less than the Harvey Norman supply and fit package.
No issues at all - it does precisely what it's supposed to, at least at this stage (seven weeks).
Not enough for 4 persons to shawer...
I installed a new Rinnai 315L single element unit 2 months ago. from that day, still now we run out of hot water every afternoon. 4 of us in my house. we don't use hot water to wash clothes. when I called their customer service. they asked me to give the credit card detail first to send a technician. very bad customer service. pls don't buy Rinnai product.
seems to a common theme lack of hot water! now what do i do
right ive just had a house built and been in only 5 month. now my Rinnai 315lt hot water is not hot enough even though its set to 70 degrees. we have to use max hot water at the tap and are still feeling cold as this weather goes cooler.
ok rannai who do I call? the builder of the home? the plumber or you? im not paying a cent either way it goes as ive paid more than the system is worth with the builders markup. no such product should be faulty in such a short time.
ill await reply so I don't get shafted with the you should have contacted us response.
After only two years of use in a single person household I've just paid $372. to replace the element & thermostat. Oh, & 2 rusted bolts. I'm assured the parts are better quality than the original but betting the manufacturers won't accept responsibility for supplying sub standard parts. Reading other reviews it seems
pointless contacting Rinnai who would say I should have contacted them first. Wonder how long that would have taken to get hot water back on.
Buyers be aware
Bought this system 13 months ago . Had very cool hot water on Thursday and then no hot water on the Friday rang the supplier who said it would be one of three things 1. Missed boost 2. Element faulty, or thermostat gone.. he advise that we could call a plumber or electrician either way we would have to get some one out. So $236.50 later and after getting it fixed over the weekend we then we rang rinnai to see about claiming it under warranty who now inform us that sorry you should have called us first. We explained that we called the supplie...r who installed it and he gave us a number for the electrician. Rinnai don't want anything to do with us now as we did not ring them first. What a take even the electrician told us the thermostat was faulty. You expect to get more than 13 months out of a brand new hot water system. Would never buy a rinnai product again . They brag about their customer service. That's a joke So if contempating on getting a new hot water service find out all about it before you buy. Customer service seems no longer to exist and your warranty is no longer worth the paper it is written on as they always have a way of getting out of it. What ever happened to the saying we stand behind our product now they run away from it . Ever stop to think these days you get better warranty and service for a toaster these days but nothing on the high end products . ,

Chinese made garbage.
Another product made in China and as usual---- garbage.
It was a simple matter of swapping the old unit out, connect the supply and the inlet/outlet pipes.
Yes, extremely simply until the water was turned on and filled the tank all four tapered threads leaked. How long have we humans been making threaded devices, unfortunately the Chinese can't get it right. Checked the threads with a thread gauge and they weren't even close.
If you want to waste time fixing a brand new product then buy Rinnai http://www.rinnai.com.au/

Nothing but trouble.
It was ok for the first 6 months or so but then started playing up. We would run out of hot water after hardly using any hot water. We would shower ourselves and the kids then go to work for the day, then come home in the evening to no hot water. This is a 400L system may I add. This problem was sporadic, occuring one day then everything would work fine for a few days, maybe a week before happening again. We were also noticing it was dumping alot of water onto the ground. We changed to Off Peak 2 (so water was heated twice a day) and still runn...ing out of hot water, despite not being home all day and not using it. The plumbers had no idea why it was doing this and tried a number of problem solving methods such as changing pressure valves and such, but nothing worked. We were informed if we wanted the Rinnai technician out to look at it and nothing was found to be wrong it would cost us around $200. It only came with a 12 month warranty (which for a product that is meant to last 10-15 years is ridiculous); and we were at the end of our warranty with a faulty HWS. Luckily for us the plumbing company we bought it from treated us well and replaced it with another brand of HWS. Probably partly because they were sick of hearing from us every fortnight complaining and asking them to come back to fix it.
I have had my Rinnai Hotflo for about two years now ....unknown to me it had been slowly leaking water into to the element box at the base of the cylinder and the floor boards under the Hotflo were soaking wet ...if the element had not blown the whole thing could have gone through the floor boards and what more disturbing is the nice guy who came around to fix it told me this is a common problem with these heaters ...I ask my self why are they not fixing the problem on the factory floor where they make them .....I checked where they are making them and behold it was CHINA ??!! well enough said ...my suggestion is ...Don't buy one ....
Please help! Rinnai Hotflo drips after every time I use the hot water.
I've had my Rinnai Hotflo electric hot water system for a few months now and every time I use the hot water system drips for 30-90 mins afterwards. It drips fast and it is hot water dripping. It seems there is a lot of water getting lost and a waste of electricity with the hot water dripping out. The valve has been replaced once and it hasn't made any difference. The system is inside my apartment and it is irritating to have the dripping tap sound all time time also. I never had this problem with my old electric hot water system (until it b...roke but that was after 13 years!). Can something be done about this? The plumber that installed it has gone AWOL and I can't contact him. I don't want to be stuck with this dripping hot water system for years to come! '
Buy your enemy one...terrible and Rinnai service irresponsible
Bought a new hot water service, fitted into an apartment wardrobe, nothing unusual in that being a requirement. It started spitting the hot water when taps were turned on. Quite volatile, lucky we don't have small children. Plumber came back and then referred problem to Rinnai. Rinnai plumber turns up, luckily my daughter was home but unfortunately I was not. They have had a problem with the anodes 'breaking down'. Rather then take the hot water service out they want to drill holes through the wardrobe shelf and top as that will be faster fix. ...Unfortunately my husband agrees (grrr) over the phone. So I contact them about what compensation I get to have my shelves repaired as my wardrobe is no longer dust proof. Rinnai say none, my husband approved the damage and we have to have access for repair. Really annoyed that hubby gave them the easy and cheap fix and they don't even offer us $50 toward repairs. This was a brand new hot water service that we put up with for weeks of spitting hot water at us. Very annoyed at Rinnai. Very regretful purchase. Avoid Rinnai products!!
Hadn't even produced Hot water and Rinnai technician charges $177 and still no hot water!
We have just experienced the worst customer service ever with our brand new Rinnai Hotflow 250l water heater. Our old heater broke so we got in our plumber to install a new one. He wanted to put in a Rheem but we thought Rinnai would be better quality so we asked him to get Rinnai. After installation the outlet valve didn't work so he said he'd come back the next day and replace it. Instead we got a call from Rinnai and the customer service man told me we would be charged for a call out fee if not under warranty. I agreed thinking a heater just...out of the box that wasn't even turned on would be under warranty regardless of the problem. Later that day I get a call from my husband who was at home saying the Rinnai man had said the plumber had installed it incorrectly so we were up for a $177 call out fee which we had to pay on the spot. So the Rinnai tech took our money and left without doing anything and the heater is still down in the garage not even turned on. This is the biggest rip off i have ever seen. How can Rinnai justify charging and then leaving a customer with a useless water tank? To me if the tank was not in 100% working order when taken out of the box and installed by a qualified licenced plumber then it is FAULTY and should be REPLACED free of charge by the manufacturer. We have spent close to $1,000 to buy this heater that for whatever reason does not work. Our family has been left without hot water for THREE days during mid winter. We have been left with a faulty product and forced to pay for a Rinnai tech to come out who did nothing. After this I will never ever buy Rinnai again and will tell everyone I know about the rip off we have been exposed to. To add insult to injury when the technician demands payment for his services, if you don't have $200 cash in your pocket to pay him, you are charged a surcharge to pay him by credit card.
Questions & Answers
Rennai Hotflow Hot water system was installed by a plumber in May 2013. It started dripping slowly a few months ago and now increased flowing continuously from top of the cylinder! I read that Cylinder has 10 year warranty/ 7 year labour and could you please advise me what is the next step! Thanks
Hi Jay, thanks for the question. Booking a service call so we can diagnose the issue with the unit would be the next step.
You can book the service call online here and you will be contacted by the technician to book an appointment:
The current warranty for the Hotflo unit is 7 or 10 years depending on the size of the tank and 3 years labour warranty. The warranty applicable for your unit will depend on the model number and date of manufacture and can be confirmed in the warranty booklet supplied with the heater or through our service line on 1300 555 545.
Thanks, it's model is HFE315 ?SSL? and S/N is EHF31500468
Could you please confirm if cylinder warranty is covered!
Yesterday I contacted 'Rams' plumbing Toowoomba(installer) and was advised to contact Rinnai with model/ Serial # (model is HFE315 ?SSL? and S/N is EHF31500468)
If you could confirm what is next step is? What I want is not calling a plumber/ technician who charges couple hundred dollars and and say 'you have to replace' the unit!
So appreciate very much if this unit (model is HFE315 ?SSL? and S/N is EHF31500468 )which was installed in May 2013 is covered!
I purchased a Rinnai 125 HOTFLO water heater less than 18 months ago and had it installed by a licensed plumber. Yesterday I noticed it is seeping water out of the cylinder bottom circumference seam and causing that seam and small nut to begin to rust. I have called Rinnai today and had to wait so long, then spoke to a technician, who said this definitely should not be happening, and the cylinder is still under warranty. He re-directed me back to the "bookings" switch, but I never got answered. I request that I am called back urgently, before this problem gets any worse. I had my previous water heater in the same spot for 15 years without anything like this happening. From above reviews it seems like this system has problems. Either way, I want Rinnai to fix this problem. It is definitely a product fault.
Hi Jan J,
Thanks for the question, you can make a booking through the Rinnai website here:
Alternatively if you can send us a private message with your contact details we can have one of the team contact you.
I have received the email and when I click on to the website https: the form does not eventuate, the page just continues to talk about conditions and costs. So I have then tried to get the form on CONTACT. This gives me the form, but when I try to enter my NAME etc. the form disappears! What is going on ? Please contact me again through my email and I will give my private phone number so your staff can contact me personally.
Hi Jan, can you please send a private message with your contact details as we do not have your email address.
Hi - I have a Rinnai HOTFLO electric water heater purchased via Origin about a year ago, model HFE160 (160 litres). It works fine but the thermostat setting is too low by a few degrees, the water is warm and not hot, something I'd like to correct now that it's winter. It takes about 5 minutes for warm water to come out of the kitchen tap when is should be hot, the shower water is warm but was not a problem in the summer. The only question I have is how can I as a user increase the temperature setting without having to arrange a serviceman to come do it at a cost. I live in Oxley Brisbane 4075. Thanks. Peter
Thanks for the question None. There are unprotected electrical connections and no user accessible components so a suitably qualified person is required to make the adjustments.
