Poor product

On the 3rd unit after 2.5 years. The tanks keep leaking. On the 2nd tank that has just been replaced, the pressure valve went after a little over 12months. Had to be replaced at my cost. The plumber has told me cost to be borne by me to have 3rd tank installed. Not covered under warranty. Very poor after approx 2.5 years. How many tanks will I need during the 10 year warranty period? Show details

Only lasted 4 years, tank is leaking

Worst HWS ever made.
Leaking from top of tank.
Plumber inspected the HWS and said the tank has failed.
Rinnai has a good name for gas hot water heaters, this is why I got it installed.

Beware, don't buy this HWS..... Show details

Very Poor Value Hotflo

We purchased a new Rinnai Hotflo Electric Water Heater in May 2020. On Sunday the water went cold and the plumber came today and replaced the water element and the thermostat. Hot water is flowing again. These items are out of warranty. These things are supposed to be like proper fridges and washing machines and last a good ten years. Three years is just not good enough especially when there is just the 2 of us pensioners. Show details

Great initially but failed quickly

I bought my Rinnai Hotflo in September 2021 and it worked perfectly until the heating element failed 14 months after purchase, a mere 2 months outside of warranty . The company I purchased from charged me to look at the system (as over 12 months old) but couldn't find a fault and then I had to pay again for an electrician to find the issue and replace the element. An expensive exercise given I paid more for the Rinnai brand for peace of mind. I'd recommend go cheaper and then if it fails , you're still ahead after fixing it anyway.
Rinnai offered me $75 compensation (which never went anywhere) when it cost me $400 to investigate and have repaired for a $910 product. Show details

Only lasted 15 months leaking water and shorting out the rcd because of the water leak

Only lasted 15 months leaking water and shorting out the rcd because of the water leak. Has been 6 days waiting for the prompt service call. I bet the service technician gets to have a hot shower everyday but my 86 year old mother doesn’t which Rinnai was told of that. Great prompt response Rinnai. I bet Rinnai will jump up and down when I get sick of waiting and get it replaced and send them the bill. Show details

Loophole warranty. Rinnai warranty is a bad joke

My Rinnai 50l electric storage hot water unit is leaking badly through the top as the attached photos show. My electrician has advised me not to risk possible electrocution by using it. The warranty is a joke. I have to gamble half the price of a replacement unit on the decision of a contractor nominated by Rinnai who I have to pay up front. This contractor can easily dismiss my warranty claim by using any technicality in the Australian Standards or whatever other avenue he chooses. I had similar with the Rinnai solar hot water tank still sitting unusable on my roof since 2013. STEER CLEAR OF RINNAI! Show details

2 months old and no hot water

Plumber supplied this unit. Has been working for two months then no hot water. Phoned the warranty line, told to expect a call by 2pm same day. No call. On the phone again, massive waiting time. Will call the plumber and see if this hunk of junk can be returned or swapped for another unit.  Show details

No issues whatsoever, easy installation and solid hot water

I saw all the negative comments here and decided to let everyone know that my Rinnai electric HOTFLO 250L purchased July 2019 is wonderful, good narrow dimensions, made in Australia, Victoria new factory - I did my research. I'm guessing that other customers were ether in minority and/or unlucky and/or products were made in China and all called a plumber instead of calling Rinnai direct and let them guide them through the process. Got good price, $729 delivered and then I organised best installation option - don't let plumbers rip you off please. Show details ·  1

Stay away from Rinnai, bad product, bad service

Agreed this is very bad service, my tank is rusted I believe, as hot water came out yellowish. When I called them they will not be able to advise whether my tank is still under warranty or not, even I have provided the receipt, model and serial number. They told me to book the technician for $195.00 and they will let me know if it is still under warranty or not.

All I want to know is what is the warranty period for my tank and the storage cylinder of my tank, no you will need to pay $195.00 for that answer. Sad sad sad, I don;t know how Rinnai's customer services be so bad beyond word can be describe.

I Have Model RIN250E36
S/N 13040820217H
Hot water Flows from the pressure relief valve continuously. is there a way to remedy this?

Tony F.

Open and shut it a number of times in case there’s a bit of foreign material on the seal. You should open and close it a number of times every six months. Other than that it may need replacement. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Tony, will give it a try.

Hi
Rennai Hotflow Hot water system was installed by a plumber in May 2013. It started dripping slowly a few months ago and now increased flowing continuously from top of the cylinder! I read that Cylinder has 10 year warranty/ 7 year labour and could you please advise me what is the next step! Thanks

Jan J · HOTFLO Electric Storage

I purchased a Rinnai 125 HOTFLO water heater less than 18 months ago and had it installed by a licensed plumber. Yesterday I noticed it is seeping water out of the cylinder bottom circumference seam and causing that seam and small nut to begin to rust. I have called Rinnai today and had to wait so long, then spoke to a technician, who said this definitely should not be happening, and the cylinder is still under warranty. He re-directed me back to the "bookings" switch, but I never got answered. I request that I am called back urgently, before this problem gets any worse. I had my previous water heater in the same spot for 15 years without anything like this happening. From above reviews it seems like this system has problems. Either way, I want Rinnai to fix this problem. It is definitely a product fault.
