I love it

Loud whirring noise
Purchased to replace storage gas system. Last experience with instantaneous gas was with pilot light and burner in a small 2 bed unit which worked well.
First thing one has to do, is replace the mains gas line into the property to a larger size, otherwise it wont function properly. The problems a lot of reviewers experience in fluctuation of water temperature is a result of this. Rinnai should have this clearly stated on their website or retailers.

24 Years trouble free operation
Infinity 20 installed in 1996 replacing an inefficient solar system. Heavy use family home with two bathrooms and it has performed wonderfully during all this time. Had it serviced after about 5 years and was told not to bother again unless there was a problem and there have been none until today. Cost of the unit and installation was approx 30% of a replacement solar system and running costs have been cheaper than the electric boosted old solar unit. Flow rate to two showers at one time is a little reduced but still satisfactory although one shower is perfect achieving water temperatures in excess of my tolerance levels if required !! Cannot rate the unit to highly.

No Customer Service
Wow having read all these issues one thing really stands out..... customer service is non-existent just an automated response which does nothing to solve the issues or help the customer.
I'm not even going to bother adding my complaint.
I will just never buy a Rinnai product again.
WOW I Love it!
Had it now for 5 days and it is great.I had a 20 liter before but chose a 16 liter this time and no difference. After shopping around I found this Rinnai to be best value and it looks like a sport's car compared to other brands. The guy at the shop said they never have a problem with customers who buy these. This unit was just a bit more expensive than other's but I found it to be a bargain for what it is.I have it set on 40 degrees on the controller so I never have to turn on the cold water tap as it is hot enough and no risk of Scolding which is...a worry to Me.It look's really nice and performs very well.I found a plumber for $350 to install that took him 40 minutes, easy money but other's were as high as $900 so be care full who You get to install as they are rip off's.

Love the continuous flow of hot water
We had our Infinity only installed a couple of months ago after our previous hot water service stopped working. I have not had a continuous hot water service before however we decided to go for this type as with 4 of us in the house even when keeping showers short, there have been times we have run out of hot water. I am pleasantly surprised how effective it is and whilst it was explained to us that the hot water will take a few seconds longer to come through than what we had before, this has not been something significant and we don't notice ...it. We have only all showered close to the same time once since having this installed and I am pleased to say we all had hot water. One element that brought us over to this brand in comparison to another was the 25 year warranty offered.

Hi I have Rinnai infinity 26 (REU-V2626W(50)-AK), This system default temp 50 degree Celsius, I tried to decrease the temperature to 25 / 30 degree Celsius via dip switch. but I couldn't. The manual show only decrease 40 degree, can I decrease or not

Terrible experience use cheap hosing that rusts
Does not cope always waiting ages for hot water.
Ribbed hosing rusted after only 5 years of use and started leaking like a sieve.
Plumber told me they have had many issues with this hose.
Annode had to be replaced after 2 years use.
They would not reimburse me to change the ribbed hosing to copper which is what it should have been in the first place.
We are pensioners and we cannot afford this additional cost.

Its a great hot water unit
so my previous Rinnai Infinitity 26 was installed in 2004 - we moved into this house in 2007 and the water heater failed a couple of days ago - so that's 16 years of trouble free use - my particular unit is the exterior model mounted outside on a southerly facing wall - with a single wired remote unit.
As Adelaide water is pretty "rough" this was a good innings from the unit. I decided to replace the old unit with a new one exactly the same - and a gas fitter exchanged the unit in under an hour using new fittings.
I am very ...happy with by hot water unit - but I see a lot of questions an poo r reviews. I'd just like to comment on what might be happening in those other reviewers situation. If you are used to a older hot water service - you know - a 135Litre tank - you might have to change how you use your hot water unit - normally with the older storage units the temperature the water is heated to is fixed and you get your desired water temperature and flow by mixing hot and cold water together by using a mixer tap. The advantage of an instant hot water service is that you can set the temperature it heats to and only heat the amount of water you need to the temperature you want.

Cold & cruddy
Model Rinnai B26 A2626WB-50-AK
This unit is COLD, 20 degree day & I just had an only hot water shower & did not get warm at all from my COLD supply of water. I will have to purchase a thermometer & see the actual temp from faucet but you can stand under all hot from this unit without even feeling mild discomfort. Installed sheltered area. Looking forward to developing a hatred of Rinnai over the warranty period...
2 questions posed - Copes well with high demand & extended usage
- Does have issues with fluctuation but may not be due to hot water system

Super efficient gas water heater, some lessons though
Replaced an old mains gas storage heater with an Rinnai Infinity 26 with controllers to set temp. Great news is my gas consumption fell 90% (not a typo).
Some lessons though.
Had to replace the mains gas line into the property to a larger size, ie less gas consumed but at a much higher rate.
Low flow taps/shower heads appear to confuse the heater (hence some poor reviews i guess), solution is to turn on hot tap much more seems to solve problem.
Have had the unit for almost two years, faultless and highly recommended.
However, given the cost of gas main replacement and gas retailers quarterly connection fee, it would have been more cheaper to go LPG option. QLD fee is almost $100 per quarter plus my $10 gas usage.

Hot and Cold
Our B20 unit is 16 months old and it is satisfactory in all respects except for our shower. In a 3 or 4 minute shower it runs cold 2 or 3 times. The instruction book says to increase the hot water flow but it is already at near its maximum. It is very frustrating as out old tank system never caused a problem in 16 years.

Do not get any system like this
Point 1: this system will not provide unlimited hot water, unless you use a high flow shower head. Using the ones they claim are compatible (see point 2) will result in hot water cutting in and out, giving you a hot-then-freezing-cold-then-hot-then-freezing-cold-etc shower that makes you want to tear the pipe out of the wall and beat the hell out of the salesperson who told you how great this system is.
I know, salespeople lying to secure a sale... what a shock..
I'd like to know when all salespeople will be legally responsible for b...

Our unit has been running flawlessly for the past 5 years. I installed controllers next to our showers + kitchen and the kids love having easy control of their shower temp. Energy efficient - Gas bill is nice and low - although installation was high (thick copper gas pipes).
Temperature fluctuation is minor when say the washing machine and/or dishwasher kicks in while you're showering, but it's still warm enough and it very rarely happens. On the flip side, you don't run out of hot water (except during a power outage)!
In all, no regrets and would install again.

too much wasted water
its called instant heat-its a B16- yet it doesn't get to 49 that its set at, not until its wasted 10 to 15 litres in my kitchen- and 20 to 25 litres, in my bathroom- so every day im wasting from 80 to 100 litres now, when on sustainability Victoria says we use an average of 60 litres per day-at a cost of 167 per year, per person, compared to $230 pa, with the bigger gas water unit, system, i got this- B16 to save- cause i was losing 40 litres a day with the big gas unit- now im losing close to a 100 litres a day, and I've got to wait ages, and...its not hot enough to even wash dishes, and I've got to watch cold, to warm water, go down the sink every time, it's very disturbing, and in my opinion, your company should be disclosing that wasted water information, and telling people it will cost more, not less, than a normal water unit because it wastes so much- even if i turn the hot water tap off for 30 seconds, it starts cold again, and wastes another 4,5 or 6 litres again, driving me crackers it is, think im just going to put my old hot water system back again, but to me its very close to false advertising, im pretty sure, confident, that's how a judge would see it too, but whether i could be bothered or not is another story, either way though, you should be telling the people buying them what their actually going to get, and how much waste "this so called instant hot water system wastes", not what you get, after the, "waste", your not talking about.

Poor customer service with Rinnai
Had an issue with faulty value on solar hot water unit which we only had for 15 months. Tried to call Rinnai to book technician to fix problem ASAP however was on hold for 30 mins and couldn't get through so had no choice to go with independent plumber. Still had faulty value available and a massive water bill because of this. As we didn't use Rinnai's technician, this apparently void the warranty. It is appalling Rinnai not prepared to compensate us nor contribute to the cost of the massive water bill. In future will not support Rinnai products.

Terrible temperature and flow
In the summer months it's OK but when it get cold the temperature at best the water is Luke warm and the flow is terrible.
I have had your Tech guy out charged me $190 to say it's not the unit it's the gas company flow from the street they came out said the gas Flow is fine .
I have had the plumber out 3 times thinking he could help he has seen what is happening but can't find anything .
This happened last winter we couldn't afford to call your tec guys again as her said it will cost again now winter here again and here we go again like warm shower again.
So frustrating wish I had money to buy a new brand.

Questions & Answers
Does anyone know if a Rinnai smart start can be connected to a Thermann 26
Hi Luke, thanks for the question, the Rinnai smartStart is designed to work in conjunction with the Rinnai range of hot water units. They are not tested or recommended for use with other brands,
Hi there, is it normal for steam and water condensate to be vented from the vent in the upper front section.. when we operate the system.. water drips down the front of the unit from the vent..

When do you know when it is on
I now have to just use it without temperature control so adjust the water so it’s not boiling until we get a new one
Hi Sean, thanks for the question. The Infinity hot water units will switch on as soon as you open a hot water outlet. The power, gas and water must all be on for this to occur.
