Stolen Luggage $500 lost.
First let me say, in flight the staff are very nice, snacks and drinks make the rounds regularly. I had 2 4 flight in total with Brunei to and from Japan, 2/4
However, on my flight to Tokyo about $500 worth of luggage was stolen right out of my suitcase as Brunei was my connecting flight I didn't notice until i arrived in Tokyo.
Wish I could give a better rating, but luggage handlers that thieve from travellers is simply unacceptable.
Poor service and stinky hotel stay due to flight delay
I flew from Melbourne to Seoul on 12th Aug via Brunei. The flight attendants did not seem to care about their works. They walked back and forth like they had been on a vacation. They served very slow and clumsy. 3 hours wait at the airport in the evening without any F&B services available. Fickle internet connection really annoyed me. Rough flight from Brunei to Seoul
On 20th Aug our flight from Seoul to Brunei was also very rough in an old airplane. The same poor service. The flight from Brunei to Melbourne was delayed for more than 9 hours.... So the ground staff put 7 of us into a beatup dirty van to Grand City hotel near the airport. The room stank. Free dinner at 7 PM at the hotel restaurant. We could barely eat the sweet dinners. Our new departure time was 3:45 AM on 21st on Boeing 787 which is the only plus for this trip. That's why I am giving 2 star service. We have been exhausted by this longest trip ever. Last year my wife also took RBA and also had a 9 hours delay. They put her and my daughter in a very bad hotel with cockroach under the pillow! The ticket price is cheaper than others but it cost us time and health. The airlines and the airport are run by the government who does not seem to care about the services.
Melbourne to Manila - cheap but long stop over is not worth it
Melbourne to Brunei is 6 hours then we had a stop over for 17 hours at Brunei, had free hotel accommodation on departure, but upon return, which is another 17 hours stop over, this is not provided. Quite mislead that all hotel accommodation is provided both ways. The money you'd spend for hotel and the time wasted in Brunei is not worth it. Might as well endure an 8 hour direct flight. Brunei has not much to offer with sight seeing. Shopping is meh, we went to the "city" (which is like your ultra average town, more shops in Footscray market ser...iously), walked around, and people would just stare, as if they've never seen other humans walk around the streets, it's weird. Taxi to hotel even when it's just 5 or 10 mins away is on a fixed rate of 20 to 25$. Rip off. There's no Uber. Service is excellent. Flight attendants are all smiles, clearly a great team work going on, and definitely a 5 star service. Plane landing, 10/10 perfect score for the pilot, smoothest ever!!! Great job!!! I can't complain on take off as this went on smoothly too! Food is awesome! It's like picnic in the sky, you'll never go hungry. Airport is so basic, but there's Jollibee yay!! I would never take Brunei airlines again even if the service is excellent, because money wise, we've spent more than taking a direct flight to Manila.
Flight experience with food service on the plane (Singapore to Melbourne approximately 7 hours)
I was flying from Singapore to Melbourne on Friday the Ist February 2019, flight B1005, seat Number 52 A and my husband 52 C.At about 3 AM the air hostess came around giving early breakfast with muffins and biscuits, she only gave them to the adjacent seats and neglected giving them to the aisle on my side. Another air hostess (a man) came and gave drinks to both sides of the aisle including us. We were disappointed at the service. We did not ask the air hostess anything about this thinking that they will turn up at some time to come and offer us. We often fly with Brunei Airlines because the flights are cheap.
No waiver for cancellation or reschedule due to medical condition
I had to go for surgery today but I've already booked a flight months before to travel in the next 5 days. Was really disappointed to learn that they will not give any waiver (for changing or cancellation fees) what so ever even with a medical note from the surgeon. There is also no written notice regarding this on my ticket or their website. At least an honest upfront warning should be written clearly on this matter in the website.
they said they would look after my luggage all the way from Melbourne to berlin but when I got to berlin there was no luggage 9 days later I finally got it after chasing it …..also on the way back to Melbourne I had already booked vegan meals on the plane they gave me mine then took it a way as I was dosing and gave it to someone else and then gave me rubbery eggs to eat ...not happy
Terrible experience After travelled with Royal Brunei Airlines 3 years
My husband and I have been travelled with RBA since Sept 2014 until now, 3 or 4 trips a year (mainly to Ho Chi Minh , and London from Melbourne). We have just arrived in Melbourne this morning 9/3/2018 from HCM City. My bad experience with RBA this time which is filled in with disappointed feeling by Ground Staff in HCM side, I booked my trip in advance and I wasn’t pregnant by then, when I travelled out from Melbourne which is fine due to I have obtained all medical cert. though, on the way back (supposed to be on 6/3/2018) I haves provided me...dical cert also but it’s in Vietnamese which I was told it should be ok because it’s in Vietnam. End up the ground staff said I’m not allowed to flight, so my husband, son and myself had to defer flight to 8/3/2018 and it costs AUD $1700 also I have to obtain the medical cert again. Eventually we can check in to fly back home on the 8/3/2018. Yet, flight delayed 2hrs without any notification via email or so, we checked in, waited, arrived Brunei and rushed to connecting flight, and YET we got called up to check on luggage which is just business brochures. Eventually we got in the plane and flew home. Arrived Melbourne on 9/3/2018 morning at the customs check at Tullamarine airport I found out one of my suitcase got tempered to open and damaged permanently which is ticked me off completely. I have captured the damage to prove what I’m complaining here. Also I’m going to contact RBA to complain about that.
Terrible, Terrible, Terrible
I traveled with Royal Brunei Airlines before from Melbourne to Kota Kinabalu and that was great. Subsequently, after a few other flights it's terrible. Flights from Melbourne to Brunei were smooth & on time, only to be spoiled by frequent delay up to eight hours to Kota Kinabalu!
Today, our arrival time to Kota Kinabalu is scheduled to arrive at 7.55 pm and now it's going to be delayed for 5 hours arriving at 12.50 am next morning. Our patient is running out.
Vietnam to Melb late Dec 2016. 8hr delay .. very poorly handled around.
Now we are currently waiting on our returned flight. Which is also delayed. Going by the other reviews. This airline needs to get its act together!! .. sack your management and get it right ...
Good planes new 787. However with these delays. Your be losing customers hand over fist.
They knew of a 10 hour delay but not a word until check in time.
Sorry RB but you treated us (and 95 other passengers) with total disrespect.
Flying Melbourne-London on Wednesday 24/08/2015 your plane was delayed in Brunei airport due to a Technical issue for 10 hours, which delayed our flight out of Melbourne by the same amount of time.
You did not advise anyone on that trip until 3 hours prior to flight time. Apparently the 2nd time that same week this happened.
No email, text or call to advise anyone. (Just $40 meal voucher each). Ruined 2 days of our trip in London due to car hire and hotel problems...
Not good customer service
My wife and I have flight with RB and a lay over of 17hrs in Brunei was told at time of making the booking would be allocated hotel, 3 enquires sent on this matter still waiting for a reply and flight is not that far off they can not even send a reply to say we are looking into your enquire, Not good customer service.
Left us for dead
When we wanted to come home from the Philippines a week early due to my wife's brother being murdered, we were told initially that no flights were available, then about 5 minutes later a flight did become available but at the cost of almost two return tickets. We were travelling with a 10 month old baby and funds were limited so this was out of the question. I contacted the Melbourne office of Royal Brunei and suddenly more flights became available (however later in the week) but at substantial fees also. Have flown with Royal Brunei four times in the past two years but never again.
Flight ok, but side services are terrible, not recommended.
I had a terrible experience in terms of the side services. The online check-in offered about 4 options of seat allocation (it said the other 199 seats were already used, despite me checking-in an hour after opening) and all the options were in the middle, so I was very uncomfortable. However, I got changed 3 times of seat allocation in the Brunei stop over, because they needed to accommodate a family and a couple or something like that...so surprise...they did have available seats, just not for the non paying user. Shame on this airline, as Rya...nair and Easyjet offer a much better service in this front. Luggage policy is also ridiculous, some users say 20 kilos is good for the price, but I think for a long haul flight 20 kilos and only one hand luggage is not good at all. I tried buying extra kgs, but the prices are extravagant, I was better off buying a new one way ticket with a better airline. Again shame on Royal Brunei, Easyjet and Ryanair manage this better as well. Unfortunately I couldn't use my return ticket, so I tried to either cancel or change dates and it turned out there were some fare restrictions (which are not advertised in the website) and hidden costs so I had to loose the ticket and all the money, but I had to make sure to cancel it, because they also charge you a no-show up fee. I wouldn't recommend this airline to anyone, you think you're buying a cheap fare but for an extra 50 pounds you'll be able to fly with Etihad or any other airline that offers more flexibility.
Great until things go wrong
Royal Brunei offer great value for money if getting there on time is not your priority. The airline has twelve planes, which means if one plane can't fly there are many flights - and hundreds of passengers - affected. I flew with them from Melbourne to Dubai in late May 2015. See other reviews for plane comfort, food, entertainment etc.
On the return flight from Dubai my Brunei-Melbourne flight was delayed fifteen hours, which meant all passengers had to stay in Brunei overnight. I wasn't told this by Royal Brunei staff on check in, I was only...
We flew return to London with Royal Brunei last year and got a great price on the flights. The flights ran on time, but we did two stop overs, one at Brunei which was quite a long stopover, and wasn't very good as most of the shops in the airport were shut, and there are not very many facilities there. The second stop over was a very quick one (an hour) in Dubai. I thought the food was actually pretty good and the staff on the whole were quite friendly.
Cheap flights; planes interiors old but clean; food good; staff mostly friendly
Pretty long stopovers; limited in flight entertainment.
Questions & Answers
Hello, I will be flying to Dubai (RBA) to do my internship at UAEU. My friend and I have different fare type (booking class), so is it possible for us to seat together when we both check in together?
Upon check in they will usually oblige and let u seat together. All depends how busy the flight will be for the sector. Good luck!
If I take alcohol on board can I drink it on board? And will ant of it be confiscated in a stopover in Brunei - I'm going to London.
Also, How much alcohol can be taken in check-in luggage please?
Firstly, u cannot get through the gates before boarding. Your bags are checked by border control and if u succeed then air crew could confiscate your alcohol i guess it's a mark of respect.
I have not selected a seat for my wife.....Do i have to do this or will she just get allocated one.
U can book seats together 24 hour prior to check in online.
