We bought this brand simply on the fact that it had and extra wide bread slot. We had not bought Russel Hobbs previously. I read the reviews and found two that said it was woeful, but one review that was very pleased. On that one good review we bought the toaster. We are also very pleased. We have always toasted our bread by turning it halfway, because no one seems to be able to design a toaster that toasts the same on both sides, so uneven toasting is never a problem for us, however this one seems quite good for even toasting (we still turn ou...
Read morer toast halfway - what do you expect from a low price consumer item)? It’s working fine after two days, and has a two year warranty. We set it on the lowest setting and judge how long it needs. I suppose you could buy a toaster with a computer that judges “goldenness” - but who wants to spend that kind.of money and have something else to go wrong? Anyway - an excellent choice so far.Purchased in at The Good Guys for $59.

The cheapest toaster on the market would outdo this piece of rubbish. Do yourself a favour and keep those extra dollars in your pocket, this expensive piece of crap should be taken off the market!!!!!

I've seen the bad reviews on this but disagree with them. I reckon this is a top unit. I was after a toaster to replace my Delonghi which cooked unevenly and died after just 2 years. My experience with this one is that it cooks quickly and evenly. I'm finding the dial that you use to select how much you want your bread toasted a bit tricky but note that you have to run it hard at first to 'cure' the elements. That aside this is one of the best, and most even cooking toasters I've had. 5 out of 5.

The title says it all. The toasted is rubbish. Russell Hobbs as a whole is rubbish. Bought this toaster for my mum as present, the first one with in a week of use kept making a loud sound then popping back as soon as you put the bread down. So took it back, second one did the exact same! Took it back again, third one is now doing the same after about a year of use. It has never toasted evenly or quickly. Nothing we have had Russell Hobbs has been good. Its Going in the bin and will never even look at the brand again

We had a Russell Hobbs for about 6 years before we needed to replace it. RH, of course. Well, no, definitely not like our old one. Thought it was a one-off that the first time in the morning the toast was perfect - after that the bread was just warmed. Decided this wasn't good for us, so swapped it for another RH. No, the same is happening with this one. We've tried to put up with it, but it's not a cheap toaster, and we thought we were paying for quality. No. Sorry, RH, you have lost another customer.

It's great if you like your toast burnt at the edges and soft in the middle!
The lever to put it down works only if you push it down very slowly and hard, so 9/10 times it just pops back up. The toaster gets very hot all over, so hot it would cause burns, my $10 kmart toaster didn't even do that. Also, it burns the edges of toast before it would even lightly toast the middle, the house smelled like burnt toast each time we used it.

When my 5yo toaster started tripping the power switch I didn't hesitate to replace it with another Russell Hobbs. From the very first use I knew it was more like a cheap and nasty toaster. It feels 'tinny', set off the smoke detector and didn't toast the bread nicely. Now I'm looking for someone to fix the old one.
To Russell Hobbs: whatever you did to this design, undo it while you still have a small piece of your reputation intact.

Purchased for $56 from spotlight. Never been able to fully toast anything, as it trips the circuit breaker In my apartment after 10 seconds. On the specs I’ve noticed it runs at 2200-2400 watts when Australia standards are below 1200.
I am taking back to get a refund as I bought a home brand Kmart toaster to test my power points and it toasts perfectly.. shame on russel Hobbs brand as I bought the toaster to compliment the great kettle I have in that brand.

We bought this toaster recently for my for my Mum and every time I visited I was greeted by the smell of burnt toast so I checked it after a week or two of use.
I tried multiple slices of sliced white and wholemeal bread (frozen and defrosted), on both sides of the toaster, on settings between 1 and 2, and they came out very brown with a burnt edge on one side and uncooked on the other.
I took the toaster back and exchanged it and the second one did the same thing in the left hand side and was more even but cold in the middle of the toast on ...

Initially it seemed OK, although odd that you needed to set it almost the maximum to get the toast brown. It was fairly quick, so seemed fine. But then using it again a couple of minutes later it popped up after 1m10s and was not very brown at all. Set it to the maximum of 6 and tried again, and after 1m20s it popped up, barely any browner. Every time I tried this I got the same result, first time fine, second time would not go long enough.
So many challenges to find a good, reliable toaster, how is it so hard to get right?!

Really uneven toasting of bread. One side burnt the other side hardly cooked. We tried to remedy the problem by defrosting bread but now turn the bread around to even the toasting out. It has nice deep and wide slots. It is not the cheapest two slice toaster available at around 50.00. I dismissed that something shorted out our power board when I was using this toaster but reconsidered because someone else mentioned it shorting out their power, which I strongly suspect happened to us.

This toaster is unsafe. It fails to lift the toast of whatever size or shape clear of the top opening and consequently it is rarely possible to retrieve the toast without your fingers touching the hot metal. It might be a classic design but the lifting mechanism is weak and definitely not fit for its intended job

How do i get the toaster to toast to the timer? i put bread in it comes out good i put second lot of bread in it comes out under done, put third lot of bread in comes out burnt
There is a knob that allows you to adjust the cooking time for the toast. I gather you aren't changing this and it is still coming out different each time. This shouldn't be happening and you should...
Read more return the toaster. One thing that I do notice is that the toaster is already hot when you toast a second lot, which may mean the sensor has a shorter toasting time but it shouldn't come out lighter and the third lot darker.I usually set the timer lower and if i feel the toast needs some more browning i put it in for a second time and just stand and wait (getting my butter ready on my knife) until i think it looks brown enough.
Having toasted bread for many years, I am aware that the toast time depends on the age of the bread, the type of bread and the moisture content, whuich will vary even from the same load - depending on...
Read more how long it’s been opened or purchased. All the dial on the toaster does is change the time it toasts for. It doesn’t miraculously judge the “toastedness”! Remember this, and you’ll have a happier life!Get an answer from our members and Russell Hobbs representatives
