I purchased this Ryobie Random Orbital Sander 18V R18ROS.
I also have a Ryobi One+ Garden Trimmer so already had the battery & charger. I love that the same batteries & charger are used for multiple items.
I have health issues & I need to look for items that are easy to hand & use & not too heavy. I need to do these sorts of jobs in slow bursts but for an able bodies person, this sander would be a dream to hold & use.
It was well packed in a sturdy box.Read moreI love that this sander has the sanding pads that just cling on with velcro. They are strong & do not move.
Very easy to replace too. Those sanding pads were $7.22 per box for 5 spares & available in the different grades.
The on/off button is also great. So many items require the button to be held down to keep the item running but this clicks on & then you click it off when finished. Very easy!
The battery is easy to click into place & then remove for charging.
The battery charges very quickly (under an hour from dead to fully charged) & with my Garden trimmer I do get around 35-40 minutes of use but with this sander I only get approx 10 minutes with each battery charge.
It drains very fast. Even if it was 20 minutes it would be so much better.
The brochure states up to 45 minutes but it is no where near that. I mentioned my trimmer as that states up to 40 minutes per charge & I do get 35-40 minutes, so my battery is fine!
I was stunned at the "kick" when I first started this sander. It had more power than I expected. My hands are weak & I did need to use both hands to hold the sander in place. In saying that though, the great work by the sander was evident very very quickly.
The majority of the dust is collected in the dust bag ready for emptying as needed. This is just pulled off & then pushed back to replace it.
I was sanding pickets on a gate. This I needed to do in stages due to my health issues & found that this sander worked well. The gate was flat on an outdoor table to make it easy for me to work on as I could.
The big negative is the corner bits - these round sander pads only access those easy to access areas. I can get right to a millimetre from the outer frame but where there is a corner & cross beams on the gate frame there was an area of approx 5-8cm that I could not access.
The head of the sander is approx 13cm across & because it is round, there is a problem. It needs a pointy attachment like a clothes iron head!
(Likewise you can't get between the pickets but I did realise that prior to buying the sander & that would be the same with basically all sanders).
Easy on/off switch
Easy click in/out battery
Easy to change sanding pads
Collects most of the dust in the dust bag
Has more power than I expected when sanding.
6 year Replacement Warranty.
Battery time is only approx 10 minutes not up to 45 as per the brochure.
Can't get into corners at all.
This sander really does a good job for the price & is easy to use.
I'm thrilled with the sanding which after all was what I wanted it for.
It is a shame the battery doesn't last a little longer & the inability to get into corners is annoying but for this first job & what I purchased this sander to do - I'm impressed.
The front & back of the pickets & the outer edge would be probably 98% complete. I need to manually try to get into those few corners.
I recently repaired & hand sandered some small holes in walls where airconditioning ducts & old hooks had been. I would have loved to have had this sander at that time. For me (with weak arms & hands) it would have been an effort to hold it to the walls but with the power it generates, that sanding time would have only been a few seconds so it would have been easly "do-able".
Clear instructions were easy to follow.
Price was $99.98 at Bunnings.
My purchase was only the Sander (already had the battery & charger) & included a small pack with 1 of each of 80 120 & 240 sanding pads.
Warranty is 6 years Replacement.
