Who needs a panda when you have this. Working as intended
Was looking for a mulcher/shredder to cut down neighbours bamboos that were invading my yard. After looking around decided on the Ryobi RSH2445S model.
Heard people struggle with adjusting the blade but i found no issues with it. Followed the instructions regarding adjusting the blade until seeing metal shavings which then adjust again for 1mm and it worked fine. Cut down 100s of Bamboo sticks/branches with no struggles. If it did struggle, it would rev up the power. Self feeding is also good.
After two month of using, i'm quite happy with it. ...Read more

Doesnt seem to last that long though appears sid
I went to use it yest and it started and did few branches and then it stopped..
That was about three times in total ive used it since we bought it ?about 2yrs ago ..
We bought it from bunnings like we do nearly all tools.
It appears solid.,still looks new but we believe that the quality of items hve really deteriorated since being manufactured in china..
Honestly things seems to break dwn easily and made purposefully to break dwn just after bit of use..
Purchased in April 2016.

Really good, except...........
My Ryobi Silent Shredder worked perfectly, it shredded all I wanted big and small branches. However, I did wonder why the wood came out 'connected' with remaining bark. When I cleaned it after use, I found the pressure plate which is against the rotating blade was put in reversed, exactly as the manual says be careful NOT to do.
The overall performance was otherwise perfect.

Simply set up and works with little or no mess
My previous mulcher died and one of the things which irritated me was the mess. The Ryobi 'shredder' has a very useful catcher which keeps the mulch in one place and saves having to sweep it all up. It requires minimal assembly. It's fairly easy to move around. It is quite heavy and so having it in a permanent position and taking your material to it may be best for some people.
One thing it wont do well is mulching leafy ends of material. I mulched up Hibiscus branches and it worked a treat until I began to put too many leafy sticks through....Read more
It gets blocked up. Mix up the leafy stuff with the woody stuff and it's fine. Diameter of material is pretty impressive considering the size of the machine. If it fits in the top, it will eat it up. I was mulching stuff 30mm and more without any issues. If it was too large, I used a hatchet to split the wood - I mulch everything! Adjustments are straight forward - if it doesn't cut correctly adjust with the allen key. If it cuts worse, you're turning the wrong way! Safety - the catcher also acts as a safety catch. It wont work unless the catcher is in place and this covers the blades. Price - well, it's not the cheapest around $400 but I find that buying a cheaper version will get a cheaper product which wont mulch up anything larger than your little finger. Save you $200 until you have enough for this and you wont be disappointed.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Adjusting blades
I am sorry to be agreeing with the negative comment here as I am having the same trouble. It seems that other comments have mentioned adjusting the blades. Yes I have read the instructions, but unfortunately I don't understand what I am undoing with the allen key?? Simple suggestions would be gratefully received.
This is likely the user at fault (me). I wasn't going to give a star rating because at present I am hating my new purchase, but if anyone can explain what I am doing with the allen key and how I adjust the blades so I can shred into small pieces I would be more than happy to rate it higher.

Didn't 'shred' or mulch at all - only mangled and repeatedly clogged. Returned it.
I bought this high priced $400 'Silent' Ryobi thinking it would actually 'shred' or mulch the thin branches (1.8cm) and the leaves that I fed into it - but all it did was mangle the branches (not 'shred') and leaves just came out the same as they went in! I was now left with piles of mangled branches (not mulch) that still needed shredding! Also the machine REPEATEDLY kept clogging up both top and bottom ends so I spent about 60% of the time de-clogging it. I tried different adjustments to stop both issues happening but still the same. I ended ...Read more
up returning this Ryobi the next day and bought the $165 Ozito 'Rapid' Shredder to finish my job. Pleased to say the Ozito works just brilliantly actually shredding and mulching branches and hasn't clogged up yet - I won't say the Ozito is 100% perfect but for $165 it's MUCH more effective than the $400 Ryobi. I would prefer a Talon brand but couldn't find one. My scores: Ryobi = 2/5. Ozito = 4/5. Note: All 'Silent' shredders use a heavy duty, slow speed grinding wheel/cog to grind up the branches/foliage - so it's quiet. 'Rapid' shredders use high speed, sharp spinning blades to chop up the branches/foliage - like a food processor - so it's loud.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!
good shreeder
The shredder did work for a while and after emptying the rubbish would not go. Bunnings , Palmerston, N.T. and a phone call to Ryobi did solve the problem. The rubbish bucket must be but in with the lever to the rear. Problem solver and instructions could be better. All help to this not very smart person was greatly appreciated , thank you.

A very good back yard shredder
I bought this a few weeks back and have used it quite a bit now and I am quite satisfied with the performance. The blade adjustment still requires an Allen key to loosen but its not too hard once you get used to it. I have found fresh 30mm branches are no trouble but dried branches are a struggle so don't let the large ones sit for too long before mulching. It does work on plant foliage quite well using a narrow blade clearance. It auto feeds quite well if you have long stems but can struggle with the twisty ones and I found myself shoving some...Read more
of them down the chute. The motor has lots of guts for 2400watts and surprised me how much it can take. I don't think its too silent however but probably is compared to other petrol based units. I hope it keeps up the performance because I have now shredded the entire yard without fault. Just be aware that dragging the roughly 35kg unit around on rough ground can be a chore at times but worth the effort for large jobs.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Good for getting rid of small branches
I bought Rayobi silent shredder last month. Satisfied with its performance, and it make less noise u can even use it late evening. Be careful not more than 45mm thick branch. Once it stuck u need to open the front to take it out. Electric motor no need to worry abt oils.

Heavy duty, large cut diameter, good for fronds.
I needed a shredder that would do general garden waste as well as palm fronds. You need a different style for fronds as a spinning (mower blade type) style of shredder just gets the stringy fronds wrapped around the blades. After looking at units twice the price I decided on this unit from Ryobi even though it was new and had no reviews as yet.
Take note that you have to set the blade cut depth before you start, and I had a bugger of a time doing this until I took the front of the unit apart and checked it out. Not sure what the problem was...Read more

my Ryobi shredder which is just 6 mth out of warranty has developed a problem in that after stalling on a branch it will predominantly run in reverse irrespective of the forward /reverse switch setting, togling the start/stop switch a number of times sometimes helps.
any ideas would be appreciated

I hope the remedy I found will help someone else.
The problem was a faulty start capacitor 60uF 450volt ac, but to replace this I had to dismantle the shredder completely.

Which shredder is which? Your picture and product code and review descriptions seem to mismatch. Bunnings is advertising two at the moment with $90 between them.

UPDATE October 2016.
through this mulcher that I didn't expect it would handle. Sure enough, it coped well with everything and only once stopped due to size. I would recommend this as a good quality, powerful and quiet shredder for home or larger property use.I have used this on and off for the last year, not constantly but when I do use it I put through anything and everything. Last week end I cut back some large trees and put limbs ... Read more
