Some welcome improvements
In many ways this device is very similar to Samsung Galaxy Book 12 (previously reviewed) that it apparently replaces. The folio keyboard cover is gone but now a kickstand similar to Microsoft's Surface range has been employed along with a snap on backlit keyboard. An S pen is also included as standard and can be held in place magnetically on the side of the unit (when not in its supplied holder. The rear camera has been moved from the top centre position to the far left (looking at the rear). The other controls and ports are the same as the pre...vious model. Internally the Intel i5 processor and 8GB RAM have been replaced by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 ARM processor and 4GB RAM. The 256GB SSD has been swapped out for a 128GB version. By default the operating system is the S version of Windows 10. This basically restricts the unit to accepting Windows Store applications only. The S version can easily be changed to standard Windows 10 Home edition through a link in the Windows Settings app. Once done though, you cannot revert to the S version. The Snapdragon ARM processor also provides some other software restrictions, although Microsoft summarises it by saying some applications and hardware may not work. Setup out of the box is straightforward, although you can no longer by pass the Microsoft Account for login, whether it is by using your Microsoft Account and/or a pin of your choosing. Once setup, you can then go to the user account section and change it to a local account with or without password. With your Microsoft Account in play, the system recognises your settings and Office 365 subscription (if active) and actively assists in setting the device up for you. MS Office works quite well. The Snapdragon processor helps the device with extended battery life as well as instant on capability. Just press the power button to "shut" it down or fire it up just like a tablet or phone. I've found for checking emails, web browsing and basic office documents this device does an excellent job. I'd recommend this device as a backup or secondary computer. Being 4G capable makes it easy to insert a sim card and add to its portability and be independent of reliance on wifi access or one can simply connect it using your phone as a hotspot when you're out and about.
Great device with some minor annoyances
I'll keep my review short but overall machine is quite good. I've used many devices in the past but this is my favourite so far. The OLED screen is by far the highlight and makes creating and viewing content very enjoyable. KB cover is average in terms of options for the stand but overall works well and is pleasant to type on. Pen works very well has a different sort of feedback when compared to the surface machines feels more natural to use. I got the i5, 4GB ram model but haven't had any performance issues with my general usage of browsing th...e web, light document work and photo editing in lightroom. Downsides: The Fan runs all the time, its not very loud but may bother some. Battery life is about average around the 4-5 hour mark not at the 11hr mark as advertised but I tend to have the brightness at around 70-75% so may have something to do with it. The stand not being lap friendly. All in all a good machine just abit on the pricey end wait till its on special I'd say before buying.
Good Computer but the stand is a joke and so is the support
Had this computer for only a few weeks. The computer is excellent and the screen is exceptional. The main issue is the stand. The stand simply does not work and the computer has fallen over numerous times. To the point it fell off the table and onto the floor fracturing the screen. I sent the unit in for Warranty repair and Samsung refused to cover the break. I am going to raise this with Australian Consumer Affairs also as I believe the stand is not fit for purpose. I would suggest you take second thoughts before buying this computer as the stand is useless!!!!!
